Fifth Gear might return on another network, hope isn’t lost Posted: 04 Dec 2009 04:08 AM PST Here at RPMgo we love everything in regards to cars, including TV shows about them. While you can’t dispute the importance of BBC’s Top Gear, we were also quite fond of Five TV’s Fifth Gear, which although wasn’t as wacky, managed to provide great information and entertainment, largely due to its motley crew of presenters, from Tiff Needell to Jason Plato, Tom Ford, Jonny Smith, Tim Shaw and Vicky Butler-Henderson. But, as I’m sure you know by now, the show is in grave danger of getting canceled, as Five TV isn’t happy with playing second fiddle to Top Gear. But even though a final decision hasn’t been reached, Tiff Needell has posted on his Twitter account that the project may still live on, as another network might buy it altogether. He also added that if things aren’t so great, perhaps he may start his own show. If that happens, hopefully he will get some of his old Fifth Gear colleagues on it. Sadly, until a final decision is taken by Five, everything is still unknown about the show. Source: Tiff Needel’s Twitter via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Nissan unveiles facelifted Qashqai, to go on sale early 2010 Posted: 04 Dec 2009 03:53 AM PST Without a doubt one of the most popular models in the Nissan range is its Qashqai crossover, which has brought in completely new customers to the Asian brand and became extremely popular. But as the current design is beginning to show its age, Nissan has revealed the facelifted model of the regular Qashqai, as well as its longer Qashqai+2. Major changes are included in this new facelift, which addresses comfort and handling for the crossover model. The biggest change, as you look at it, is the exterior revamp, especially in the front of the car, where the new bonnet, front bumper, wings, grille and headlamp design make a lasting impression. The rear, while staying basically the same, has received a few aerodynamic tweaks and revised light lenses. For the outside you will also be able to opt for two new colors, Magnetic Red and Titanium Gray, as well as new designs for the alloy wheels. On the inside, the dials have been changed for easier reading, and lights have been added to the footwells, as well as new storage areas. Eco-conscious customers will be thrilled to hear that a new Pure Drive version has been added to the range, powered by a 1.5-liter diesel unit. The lighter and more aerodynamic design of the Pure Drive alloy it to reduce CO2 emissions from the Qashqai’s standard 137 g/km to 129. Source: Nissan Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Infiniti reveals FX Millionaire edition in Europe, not quite what you might expect Posted: 04 Dec 2009 01:31 AM PST Besides unveiling the new models and facelifts for the North American market, Infiniti is also taking care of its European customers, and revealed the upcoming FX Millionaire Edition, which will launch exclusively in Europe, at the Amsterdam Millionaire Fair. Now, I don’t know about you, but when you hear about a millionaire’s car, exclusive ornaments with the likes of gold, platinum or diamonds immediately come to mind, straight from a rap video of some sorts. But Infiniti took a more distinguished approach, and offers a more exclusive look to its FX series of models, consisting of the FX37 and FX50. The paint scheme, as you can see is in White Moonlight, although you can order Obsidian Black, with dark graphite inserts on outside elements like the the 21-inch wheels, the grille, air dam, roof rails and window contours. On the inside you will find a blend of Alcantara with brown stitching contrasting with carbon fiber inserts. Exclusive gadgets from the catalog are also included, from the navigation to the Around View Monitor and Bose audio system. The Infiniti FX Millionaire edition will start from €95,450 (around $144,000), thus earning its name. Only 100 models will be made, so all you millionaires might want to hurry up. LA Auto Show: Kia presents its all-American 2011 Sorento Posted: 04 Dec 2009 01:13 AM PST Kia is definitely pulling the heart strings of its US fans, as it has just presented the 2011 Sorento model at the Los Angeles Auto Show, going on these days in California. I’m saying this because the new Sorento is the first vehicle the South Korean company has designed and built in the USA, at its West Point, Georgia manufacturing plant. Moving on to specific details, the new Sorento aims at being a full pledged crossover model, meaning that it will seat five adults, but has the capacity for seven full-size persons “occasionally” according to Kia. Powered by a V6 engine outputtin 276 HP and coupled to a six-speed automatic, the Sorento promises to offer some interesting cheap thrills, but not in a bad way, as the prices start from under $20,000. Also, expect the Sorento to be everywhere you look, as parent company Hyundai is buying ad spaces left and right, signing sponsorship deals and even running ads in cinemas across the USA. Hopefully the new 2011 Sorento will make good on its word and provide a great ride for potential customers. Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

LA Auto Show: 2011 Hyundai Sonata revealed for US market Posted: 04 Dec 2009 12:26 AM PST After we Europeans got a glimpse at the upcoming 2011 Hyundai Sonata (or i40 as we’ll receive it), during the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show, the South Korean carmaker revealed the US-spec version of its mid-size sedan. Major selling points include more room inside, a bigger boot and better handling, thanks to a good power-to-weight ration and tighter turning diameter. It will feature the 2.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine as standard, delivering 198 HP and 184 lb-ft of torque. Customers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission, which achieves 23 mpg in the city and 34 on the highway, or a six-speed automatic which gets 23 and 35. During next year the Sonata will also receive a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit as well as a 2.4-liter Hybrid Blue Drive version. Customers with a taste for higher end things will also be happy to hear that a Sonata SE version will arrive after the official launch, which features sportier suspension with stiffer springs and larger stabilizer bars, as well as monotube rear shock absorbers and low profile 18-inch wheels. Music fans will also get to choose from standard six-speaker audio systems to a Dimension premium one and a range-topping Infinity-made system will be available as an option. Look forward to the beginning of 2010, when this model will enter the market. Source: WorldCarFans Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Alfa Romeo brand to be re-evaluated by Fiat, its fate will be decided in February Posted: 04 Dec 2009 12:09 AM PST As the Fiat Group has recently bough quite a lot of shares in Chrysler, and agreed to fund its revival in the following years, you would say that the Italian company has quite a lot of money and can afford keeping all of its brands, despite sales not being what they used to. One of Fiat’s brands which is definitely in trouble, according to some sources, is Alfa Romeo, which saw total sales figures take a massive nose dive in recent times. And things are going to get even worse, as Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of Fiat, has ordered a full re-evaluation of Alfa, after which one of two decisions will be made. The first one, if things look up, will see the parent company still invest in the brand, especially in marketing, but if all hope is lost, the newer models like the MiTo and the upcoming Giulietta will do the marketing for the other models, like the Brera, 159 or GT until requests die down. Alfa Romeo’s review will be done at the beginning of 2010, and Marchionne revealed that a conclusion might appear around February or even March. Hopefully the brand still has what it takes to be competitive and this iconic carmaker won’t be forced to shut down anytime soon. Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
