Swedish police uses Volvo wagon as weapon against crime Posted: 14 Jan 2010 03:14 AM PST For all you Swedish criminals out there, here’s a new tip: if you’re running away from a crime scene in a car, and you see a police Volvo wagon, you will stop and turn yourself in ASAP. Don’t go thinking you can outrun it, as this unlucky Audi-driving criminal thought he did, and immediately saw just how indestructible a Volvo wagon is. Above is the most interesting photo, but hit the jump to see the complete set of pictures of how the “moose roll” maneuver took place. Lotus reveals Evora Cup race car, to run in FIA GT4 and special series Posted: 14 Jan 2010 02:03 AM PST Lotus has never been shy of flexing its racing muscles in various competitions, and seeing how the Evora is selling pretty well, it has decided to release a new special track-focused race car, the Evora Cup, in order to unleash it in various competitions. The race car will see the Toyota V6 be upgraded to 4.0-liter configuration, outputting 395 HP, and will be coupled to a race-spec Cima six-speed sequential gearbox. High end braking and suspension systems have also been implemented, and Lotus shaved 440 pounds from the weight of the stock model, as the Evora Cup tips the scale at 2,600 pounds. The car will see its debut race at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, England, but will also enter the FIA GT4 competition, and in its own Evora Cup Series. In case you’re wondering, the special race car will cost £120,000 ($195,432) plus taxes. Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

BMW to release xDrive40d variants for X5 and X6 in Geneva Posted: 14 Jan 2010 01:32 AM PST BMW has just announced that it will be taking the 3.0-liter diesel engine from the 740d and transplant it into the bodies of the X5 and X6 SUVs. The result of the new pairing? The X5 xDrive40d and the X6 xDrive40d. The engine will deliver 300 HP and 442 lb-ft of torque, and will be mated to a new ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The goal of the diesel engine in the X5 and X6 is to offer a more fuel efficient version with lower CO2 emissions. While these new versions will be shown during the Geneva Motor Show for the European market, if demand is big enough, they might even arrive in the US, where the only diesel variant is the 265 HP X5 xDrive35d. Audi A1 to “attract new buyers”, serve as gateway to larger models Posted: 14 Jan 2010 01:09 AM PST Audi is quite confident in its upcoming city car, the A1, which it is now promoting just like a drug dealer of some sorts, saying that it will introduce a younger audience, 25-35 years old, to the Audi “drug” and will make them interested in larger models as time passes.
He says that plenty of new technologies, like auto stop start or brake energy regeneration will be implemented in the car, and even "infotainment items… otherwise only found in luxury class models." In terms of sales, Audi is planning to get plenty of people “hooked”, expecting to shift over 80,000 units in 2011, the first full year of production. The A1 is set to be revealed next month and be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show. Also expect to see Justin Timberlake around the new car as much as possible. Cadillac to release V or Platinum editions for all models, CTS-V wagon might appear Posted: 14 Jan 2010 12:55 AM PST Cadillac is GM’s go-to luxury brand, but during recent times, its specific models have also seen upgraded editions, like with the CTS, which saw the CTS-V performance model, or the recent XTS Platinum concept, which was shown as an upgraded edition of what a future XTS might look like. In order to clarify these things, Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell revealed that every model in the range will receive either a V or a Platinum edition, depending on their specific traits and their audience. As such, if you thought about an Escalade-V, you’ll be disappointed, as such a big SUV will most likely receive a Platinum edition. Caldwell also had an interesting reaction when he was questioned by Autoblog about a presumed CTS-V wagon model. He didn’t say anything, but it seems that smiles were all around, so you might expect to move your big family really fast in such a model in the near future. Seat officially quits FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Posted: 14 Jan 2010 12:41 AM PST Spanish carmaker Seat has just announced that it has withdrawn its factory team from the FIA WTCC (World Touring Car Championship), after an extremely successful run in the competition.
After winning two manufacturer’s titles in 2008 and 2009, and having two world champions, Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini, rumors were circulating that the company would follow in the steps of BMW, which will race just two cars, instead of three on its factory team. Now though, it seems Seat has completely pulled out, and will only supply cars and expertise to private pilots. For the 2010 season Chevrolet will continue to operate three cars, while Lada hasn’t released a concrete plan. BMW, as I’ve said, will operate just two cars in the next season of the championship. Saab workers protest against “Gangster Motors” Posted: 14 Jan 2010 12:20 AM PST Not a day without Saab news it seems, as the Swedish company is still hogging the media spotlight. After GM announced that it is going forward with the wind down process, but is still examining offers from other companies for Saab, workers have now begun to protest. It seems that even though the Trollhättan factory in Sweden is still operating, because it needs to satisfy the remaining orders for models like the 9-3 or the 9-5, workers are still quite angry at GM for letting the company slowly die. Many of them got together in front of the headquarters with signs saying “Mr Obama – please save Saab” or “Save Saab from GM, Gangster Motors”. And this wasn’t a small protest, like the one held by Saab fans at the GM HQ in Detroit, as a reported 3,500 people showed up to express their resent towards the American company. Autodelta unveils tuned Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione Posted: 14 Jan 2010 12:08 AM PST Alfa Romeo cars output a certain kind of exclusivity to its drivers, and that’s why very few resort to tuning their Italian models. When you talk about the highly praised Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione supercar, things are even clearer. But the leading Alfa tuning house, Autodelta, decided that the Ferrari-developed 4.7-liter V8 engine in the 8C can use a bit of tweaking, and, through some clever ECU remapping, increased the output from 444 HP and 350 lb-ft (480 Nm) by 17 HP and 20 Nm. That’s not a lot, but the company revealed that other upgrades, for the chassis and suspension will arrive soon and do remember that this is the first tuning attempt for the Italian model. This special 8C, alongside many other customized Alfa Romeo units will be shown at the Pistonheads Performance Car Show in Birmingham, starting at the end of the week. Jaguar working on C-Type roadster, axed XJ Coupe plans Posted: 13 Jan 2010 11:45 PM PST Jaguar is doing well under its new Indian ownership, Tata, and is thinking about a new model which will arrive next year. Judging by the recent release of the XJ luxury sedan, some voices said that the new car would be an XJ Coupe, which will rival the Mercedes-Benz CL Class. But such a model would be a waste of money, according to some Jaguar sources, which revealed that the XJ Coupe wasn’t really talked about in a serious manner. The most likely model to appear from the British brand will be a new roadster (rendered above), under the C-Type name, which will rival cars like the BMW Z4, Audi TT or Mercedes-Benz SLK. But even though design and manufacturing won’t be a problem (thanks to the many rupees from Tata), Jag still has to work out what engine it will place under the bonnet of the roadster, as its newest unit is a big, naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8. According to the guys at Inside Line, the engineers might resort to cutting a couple of cylinders from the aforementioned unit, and ask former owner Ford to borrow its EcoBoost technology, resulting in a turbocharged V6 unit, more than befitting of a roadster. Most of these things are rumors though, but a roadster from Jaguar will be arriving soon, and judging by the ascending trend of in terms of the quality, design and good engines, “ze Germans” have reasons to worry. Mercedes-Benz to launch E-Cell electric A Class in October Posted: 13 Jan 2010 11:25 PM PST Mercedes-Benz is seriously working on developing a lineup of zero emissions vehicles, and has just announced that it will begin to produce an electric A Class-based model, dubbed E-Cell, this October. Sadly the car won’t be offered to regular customers, as it will enter testing stages at various public institutions so that the electric powertrain and batteries can be subject to real-life conditions. The A Class E-Cell will join the Smart Electric Drive and the B Class F-Cell in Mercedes-Benz’ zero-emissions lineup. No other details were given, except this promotional clip, meaning you’ll have to wait until autumn for other piece of information. Source: Automarket Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
