Toyota introduces FT-86 G Sports Concept in Tokyo Posted: 15 Jan 2010 04:51 AM PST As you may know, the Tokyo Auto Salon is in full swing these days in the Japanese capital, gathering the best and brightest aftermarket tuning options from Asia. Toyota couldn’t miss this convention and has revealed that it will launch several packages under the G Sports label, for many of its models. Not even the company’s rear-wheel drive coupe concept, the FT-86 has escaped, and is the centerpiece of the Toyota exhibit at the show. Although no official details have been given about performance, it is expected that Toyota and its tuning partner, Gazoo, have turbocharged the Subaru-developed 2.0-liter boxer engine, and, as it can be seen, have fitted a new body kit on the attractive coupe. Consisting of a restyled front and rear bumper, side skirts, enlarged wheel arches and a carbon fiber hood with air vents, the body kit definitely makes an impression. The FT-86 G Sports concept is sitting on a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in Potenza RE050 tires, and houses a pair of Recaro seats inside. In case you’ll be dropping by the Tokyo Auto Salon, be sure to check this new concept out. Source: Toyota via CarScoop Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

GM’s Lutz: Holden Commodore could appear in US as “four-door Corvette” Posted: 15 Jan 2010 01:55 AM PST For US fans of powerful sedans, it seems that General Motors might be preparing a surprise, as one of its executives, Bob Lutz, talked with Drive.com.au, and revealed that a sedan based on the Holden Commodore might makes its way over the Pacific to the US as a “four-door Corvette”.
GM is already preparing to offer a Chevrolet Caprice police vehicle in the US, which is based on the Commodore, so it doesn’t seem that unlikely for the manufacturing plants to crank out a few civilian cars, possibly branded as a Chevrolet SS. For the moment this is all wishful thinking based on Lutz’s words, so take it with a grain of salt. Source: Drive.com.au via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Chrysler to drop Sebring name for next sedan Posted: 15 Jan 2010 01:36 AM PST Out of all the big US carmakers, Chrysler is in the least favorable position, but with Fiat backing its revival, things might get better. Part of this new plan are revamps and facelifts which will be made to almost all vehicles in the lineup. One specific car which will get an extreme makeover will be the Chrysler Sebring, and according to some voices, the difference is going to be so big, that the company is thinking of dropping the Sebring name for the new mid-size sedan, and start fresh with it. While the name isn’t bad, the legacy of the models on which it was placed doesn’t exactly bring fond memories to customers, so it seems that Chrysler may have a pretty good idea here. It’s still a rumor though, so don’t be shy and share your thoughts about this possible name change. Source: Ward’s Automotive via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Opel/Vauxhall details its future city car Posted: 15 Jan 2010 01:21 AM PST After General Motors decided it will continue to own Opel/Vauxhall, the European company began working on a project which was rumored up until then: a new compact city car which will rival models like the Ford Ka or the future Volkswagen Up. Although we heard that it might be based on the Trixx Concept and share platforms with the existing Crosa, it seems that the new boss of Opel, Nick Reilly, wants a new platform for it, one which will support the addition of an electric drivetrain, for a zero-emissions variant. While some might want the Chevrolet Spark platform, according to Reilly it’s highly unlikely. Instead, Opel might follow the route it took with the Meriva platform, which uses parts from three other cars: the Zafira, Corsa and Astra. According to Reilly, Opel won’t rush head first, so we’ll still have to wait two years at least for an official reveal to appear. Source: Autocar Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Chevrolet announces Cruze Cup edition, one-make racing series Posted: 15 Jan 2010 12:42 AM PST Chevrolet saw that all the “cool kids” are launching track editions of their cars, and dedicated one-make racing series, so it decided that its Cruze model can also join the new trend. As such, at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, it has presented the Cruze Cup model, and announced a special racing series for it. The Cruze has already proved to be pretty successful in the FIA WTCC (World Touring Car Championship), winning the Marrakech race, and will now use an almost stock model for the new series, which will put pilots in identical cars.
These special race cars will be using the 1.8-liter engine from the normal Cruze, and feature KW racing suspension and new Rimstock racing wheels. The series will debut in Rockingham, Northants, on the weekend of April 10 and 11, and will have seven rounds. More details about the new series can be found here. Cadillac plans return to Europe, takes the fight to its rivals Posted: 15 Jan 2010 12:00 AM PST Cadillac has been pretty busy these days, launching some very interesting cars, including the CTS, the CTS Coupe and more importantly their V-badged performance editions. They, alongside the new XTS Platinum concept might give European carmakers like Mercedes-Benz or BMW something to think about. After the Detroit Auto Show, Bryan Nesbitt, the brand’s manager, has revealed that his company is preparing a big return to Europe, and will sort out the problem of dealerships, seeing as how its Dutch partner, Kroymans, isn’t in the best of financial situations.
The possibility of using Opel/Vauxhall dealerships is also rumored these days, but Cadillac isn’t ready to make a statement just yet. What do you think? Would the new Yankee models manage to find a following in Europe? Leave your comment below. Source: Autocar Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Chevrolet Camaro Synergy Special Edition is one mean green machine Posted: 14 Jan 2010 11:34 PM PST Chevrolet observed the whole trend of cars going green, and decided that its own muscle car, the Camaro, can also go that way. Now before you ask, it didn’t install a hybrid setup of anything like that, but Chevrolet launched the Synergy Special Edition Camaro, sporting a metallic green paint (see what I did there?). This limited edition will run between February and May, and will be based on the 1LT, powered by the 3.6-liter V6 which develops 304 HP. The starting price is $26,790, but might go up or down depending on what six-speed gearbox you choose, either an auto or a manual (for which you get a specially-stitched shift stick). In terms of style, the Synergy Green paint will make plenty of people envious, as well as the Cyber Grey Rally Stripes, the rear spoiler and the set of 19-inch painted wheels. On the inside you’ll see the familiar green shade on the instrument panel, the door inserts and in the stitching. Other options include the Camaro Convenience and Connectivity Package, which brings Bluetooth, an USB port and remote vehicle start on the automatic models.
