2011 Ford Mustang V6 rated 31 mpg highway, most efficient 300+ model Posted: 04 Mar 2010 04:31 AM PST The fierce battle between muscle cars has been waged ever since the first models were introduced in the 1960s. In present days, the Dodge Charger, Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang are trying to win customers with powerful engines, improved fuel economy or lower price. With the beginning of the year though, Ford’s Mustang has received quite a lot of attention, thanks to the introduction of the 2011 model year, complete with the iconic 5.0-liter V8 engine. It will join the new 3.7-liter V6, capable of 305 HP, one more pony than the Camaro’s V6 unit. Now a new win was recorded by the Blue Oval, as official fuel average numbers put the V6 ‘Stang at 19 mpg in the city and, *drumroll please* 31 mpg highway. This is already hyped up by Ford, which claims its car is the first 300+ HP model to climb past the 30 mpg mark, trumping the Camaro’s 29 mpg highway figure. This impressive feat was achieved with the more efficient six-speed automatic gearbox, the improved aerodynamics and the electric power steering, according to the company. While Camaro or Charger fans are certain to get upset, we still need to give credit where credit is due. Source: Ford Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Toyota owners complain about unintended acceleration even after recall fix Posted: 04 Mar 2010 02:08 AM PST Toyota is sure to remember the beginning of 2010 as one of the darkest periods it has ever gone through. The two huge recalls it has issued, both for unintended acceleration, have caused over 10 million cars to be called back into dealerships where new equipment, either gas pedals or floor mats, were installed. Seeing as how cars are getting fixed and credibility in the company is starting to improve, you’d think Toyota has nothing to worry about. Well you’re wrong, as the NHTSA has already received seven complaints in the last two weeks from Toyota owners claiming unintended acceleration incidents. All of the customers have revealed that their cars already received the new equipment, which needed to put an end to such events. We don’t know if the faults stem from the same cause or a new one altogether, as the NHTSA is still investigating these claims. The Los Angeles Times, however, has revealed that several experts consider the fixes issued by Toyota inadequate, and that the root of the unintended acceleration claims has yet to be discovered. If the claims turn out to be true, Toyota might end up in an even more difficult situation. Source: LA Times Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Cadillac Converj project dead, report says Posted: 04 Mar 2010 01:35 AM PST Right after GM unveiled the Chevrolet Volt Extended Range Electric Vehicle (ER-EV), its luxury brand Cadillac also revealed its own concept based on the same technology, the Converj. The model was well-received by the general public, and many thought that it would soon follow the Chevy Volt into production. A recent report from Bloomberg says otherwise. It seems that after careful consideration, GM isn’t going forward with the Converj premium ER-EV due to the steep price it would have, plus the diminished range due to the luxury accessories being added to the car. The report also cites slow sales of other high end hybrids as a reason for fear amidst GM executives. As you all know, the US company is very careful these days with the money it invests in research and development. Cadillac representative David Caldwell revealed that there is nothing to be announced, and that such a project will encounter many problems along the way. Tesla is getting ready to launch the Model S sedan, and quite a few other carmakers are pondering this thought. Do you believe the Cadillac Converj would stand a chance against them? Ford planning hot hatch performance variant of 2012 Focus, might get ST, RS or SVT badge Posted: 04 Mar 2010 01:05 AM PST Ford didn’t bring quite a lot of completely new things at the Geneva Motor Show this year, limiting itself to presenting the wagon variant of the 2012 Ford Focus, which was revealed in January at the Detroit Auto Show. But Ford executives were more than happy to talk about the eventual high performance variant of the 2012 Focus, which will most surely get an all-new 2.0-liter EcoBoost (aka turbocharged) gasoline engine. According to Blue Oval execs we’ll get a model with distinct styling and aggressive performance. There are still quite a lot of questions regarding the future hot hatch, among which being the badge that will be associated with it. While the RS one might be used in Europe, rumor are saying that it will be saved for an even more powerful hybrid performance variant, so the ST will be used on the regular EcoBoost-ed Focus. The North American market might get this model with the SVT badge, seeing the popularity of that division in the territory. Either way, I’m sure many fans are eagerly awaiting the new hot hatch Focus, no matter what badge will be worn by the car. Source: Autocar Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Nissan recalls 540,000 models over brake pedal pin and fuel gauge problems Posted: 04 Mar 2010 12:47 AM PST Great news everyone, more recalls! After GM started the week with over 1 million Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac models and Mazda’s seat heater problem in the 2010 CX-9 from earlier today, Nissan has just revealed that it will recall 539,864 from all over the world, most of them from the United States of America. There are two main problems plaguing specific vehicles. A brake pedal pin might become disengaged, affecting the stopping power of the car or truck, or the fuel gauge indicator might not properly indicate the precise amount of fuel left in the tank. These problems haven’t caused any accidents just yet, but Nissan will repair all of them. The cars affected by the brake pedal pin problems are: 2008-2010 Nissan Titan, Armada, Quest and Infiniti QX56. Out of the complete number, 178,916 are located in the US while 25,869 outside of it. The models affected by the fuel gauge problem are: 2005-2008 Nissan Titan, Armada and Infiniti QX56, as well as Nissan Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra models produced between January and March of 2006 or between October 2007 and January 2008. 418,865 such vehicles are in the US, while 53,253 elsewhere. Nissan will begin to notify the owners of such cars as soon as possible. If you are one of them, you’re advised to get in contact with the Japanese company at 1-800-NISSAN1 (1-800-647-7261) for Nissan models, and 1-800-662-6200 for Infiniti ones. Dacia confirms 2012 UK launch, showcases Duster’s off-road abilities in two new videos Posted: 04 Mar 2010 12:28 AM PST Renault’s low-cost Romanian brand Dacia is nothing short of a sales phenomenon, both in its native country and in more developed territories like Germany or France, where the Logan sedan or the Sandero hatchback are making a killing. But while mainland Europe has been enjoying the low-cost models, the UK has been deprived of them, partly because of the weak pound sterling-euro exchange rate and the right-hand drive conundrum. That’s going to change though, as a Renault executive confirmed that Dacia will begin selling models in the UK around 2012, with the new Duster crossover leading the charge, set to be followed by the Sandero and even the Logan. Perhaps Dacia could offer the first RHD Sandero to Top Gear presenter James May as he is one of the biggest supporters of the low-cost brand and that specific model. Who could forget the first episode of Top Gear’s season 14? During this week, at the Geneva Motor Show, Renault and Dacia have heavily promoted the Duster crossover, which they hope will boost sales even higher. In order to get the off-roader’s message across, the company also released two new videos, showcasing the abilities of the Romanian crossover. Subaru Impreza VX presents itself in Geneva Posted: 04 Mar 2010 12:02 AM PST When Subaru announced that it will unveil the Impreza VX at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, many people believed it would be a very interesting, maybe an all-new car. Those with our feet planted firmly on the ground kept our expectations low. And it seems we were right, as Subaru unveiled a slightly taller but not that different model than the stock Impreza hatchback. It’s worth noting that the Japanese carmaker didn’t use Volkswagen’s “pantented” way of making models more off-road-y by adding copious amounts of plastic cladding on them. Instead, the company fitted more tasteful (at lest when comparing it to the VW CrossPolo or CrossGolf) plastic accessories to the Impreza VX, on the front and rear end, wheel arches and side skirts. A set of roof rails is also present, in the same matte black finish, as well as a restyled front fascia, boasting a new grille. On the inside you’ll find plenty of accessories already available on the stock Impreza. Under the bonnet you can go with two boxer units: a 2.0-liter gasoline one with 150 HP and 196 Nm or a 2.0-liter turbodiesel with 150 HP and 350 Nm. The former can be equipped with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic gearbox, while the latter comes with only a six-speed manual. All of these transmissions will send power to the four wheels through Subaru’s AWD system. Source: Subaru Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Mazda recalls 12,300 2010 CX-9 models over seat heater issues Posted: 03 Mar 2010 11:43 PM PST Seat heaters may seem like options you order for your specific car on a whim, but during tough winter conditions, they can make you feel like a million bucks. Sadly though, it seems that the seat warmers fitted to 2010 Mazda CX-9 SUVs took their job a bit too seriously. As such, the company issued a recall for 12,300 units, due to insufficient electrical grounding, which could lead to overheating, burns and even fires. Customers who have experienced too much heat coming from their seats are advised to check in with their local dealership as soon as possible. The fix involves fitting an additional ground harness to the subassembly, and even replacing it altogether if the damage is beyond repair. The recall is set to officially start on March 9th, but you can contact Mazda for more details at 1-800-222-5500. Source: NHTSA Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
