2011 Range Rover revealed in Europe, video included Posted: 18 Jun 2010 02:53 AM PDT Seeing as how the luxury SUV market is becoming increasingly populated with the likes of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne, Land Rover isn’t sitting idly, and has just revealed the 2011 Range Rover refresh. While the exterior changes aren’t that noticeable, there is one major upgrade included in this mid-cycle facelift: a new 4.4-liter LT-TDV8 diesel engine. The new diesel unit is now capable of 306 HP and a massive 516 lb-ft of torque, and will replace the older 3.6-liter diesel engine. It will be coupled to a ZF eight-speed gearbox, complete with paddle shift technology. This allows the new diesel Range Rover to achieve a 30 mpg (EU combined cycle) fuel average, as well as meet Euro 5 emissions standard. The 2011 Range Rover Supercharged model is practically the same, but it is lending its Brembo braking system to the more powerful diesel, this time around. A special 40th anniversary Autobiography Black edition will be available based on the 2011 model year. Expect the new Range to be hitting dealerships across Europe this September. Sadly, JLR didn’t reveal any info about when the refreshed luxury SUV will be coming State-side. In order to ease the waiting period, check out the photo gallery below and then hit the jump to see a video of the new Range Rover. Photo Gallery: 2011 Range Rover

2011 BMW M3 Frozen Gray Coupe limited edition revealed for the US Posted: 18 Jun 2010 02:23 AM PDT Remember those teaser shots BMW released at the beginning of the week? Well, it seems that our guesses were pretty much spot on, as the Bavarian company has indeed revealed a limited edition version of its M3 sportscar. The 2011 BMW M3 Frozen Gray Coupe is a special series made completely for hardcore BMW fans. Only 30 models will be made, but each will boast, as the name suggests, a special type of paint job. First, BMW sprays on a Space Gray base, then applied its patented ColorSystem silk matte clear coat, in order to produce this finish. If paint isn’t really you thing, you’ll be pleased to hear that this special edition M3 also has the Competition package added, meaning its sits 10mm closer to the ground, boasts unique 19-inch wheels, has a new M Dynamic mode and an electronic damping system. The power figures are the same, 414 HP from the 4.0-liter V8, meaning the Frozen Gray M3 will still sprint to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds, if you have the M double clutch transmission. The price for the 2011 BMW M3 Frozen Gray Coupe? $77,600, including destination and gas guzzler taxes. Orders will be accepted starting from Monday, June 21st, at 11:30 AM EST. Until then, check out the photo gallery below with this special M3. Photo Gallery: BMW M3 Frozen Gray Source: BMW Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Toyota FT-86 to be renamed as FR-S? Posted: 18 Jun 2010 01:54 AM PDT The Toyota FT-86 is definitely one of our favorite recent concepts, largely because it promises to revive the heritage of the AE-86, the Celica or the Supra, and will bring back some fun-to-drive action in the Toyota lineup. Still, all of the rumors we heard up until now haven’t been that joyful, with news of price increases and delays appearing on the web. Now, we can speculate on another piece of information, as the Japanese company has just registered a new trademark: FR-S. Voices are already saying that this might be the new and production-ready name for the FT-86. As you may remember, fans were hoping that the Celica badge might be revived when the concept was launched, but Toyota execs were reserved. Could this be the new name for the Toyota’s rear-wheel drive coupe concept? We can’t say for sure, but at least it doesn’t sound all that bad. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Alpina releases 5 Series-based BMW B5 Bi-Turbo sketch ahead of Goodwood debut Posted: 18 Jun 2010 01:42 AM PDT Even if rumors concerning the the 2011 BMW M5 are heating up, that hasn’t stopped BMW and Alpina from teasing the next performance model based on the new 2011 5 Series. As such, the first sketch of the BMW Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo has been revealed, just as the model is preparing to make its official debut later this summer at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. As you can tell by the name, the B5 will boast an upgraded twin-turbo engine, but we still don’t know the exact specifications. The design of the 2011 5 Series has received a few new touches, and the classic set of Alpina wheels are present. The Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo, according to rumors, will also have a better fuel average, but we’re taking that part with a grain of salt. Bickering children as worse as alcohol for a driver, study says Posted: 18 Jun 2010 01:18 AM PDT A new study has revealed that, for a driver, having bickering children in the car produces the same effects as drinking up to the legal limit of alcohol. According to the Transport Research Laboratory, drivers’ reaction times decreased by up to 13% when they had children who were arguing in the car. That same level was experienced by those who drank the legally allowed amount of alcohol. Besides the decreased reaction time, cases of hard braking were 40% more common, and stress levels increased by a third when the children were arguing. As you know, being in a bad state of mind has also been proven to increase the likelyhood of accidents. So, next time you’re in a car with bickering children (or even adults), try to keep them entertained or get them a bus fare. Source: What Car via Automarket Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

How do Gran Turismo 5’s virtual cars compare to real cars? Posted: 18 Jun 2010 01:02 AM PDT The Gran Turismo 5 racing game has been a long time coming, but is now closer than ever, having just been confirmed for a November release date. We’ve already shared some of the details before, but it seems that Polyphony Digital, the game’s developer, and Sony, its publisher, have released a few new pieces of information about the game. From the 1,000-car roster, around 800 will be standard, meaning their models have been taken from previous GT games, and optimized for the PlayStation 3’s hardware. The remaining 200 ‘Premium’ cars have been rendered from scratch, in order to portray the best photo-realistic model of a real car. Don’t believe us? Check out these comparison shots of Gran Turismo 5’s virtual cars against the real vehicles which served as a model. Hit the jump to view all of the photos (click on them to enlarge) and then see which are real and which are virtual. Will you be able to guess? The real cars are on the left, the GT5 virtual cars are on the right. Source: Kotaku Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Video: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets iPhone vehicle information app Posted: 18 Jun 2010 12:32 AM PDT The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee symbolizes Chrysler’s newfound identity and, hopefully, its sales rebirth. As such, besides the patriotic ad, the US carmaker has decided to target technology-inclined customers by releasing a special Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle information application for the iPhone. Besides the regular manual which is now being shipped on special DVDs, anyone, Jeep GC owners or not, can download a free iPhone app with data about the upcoming SUV. Besides flipping through pages of the virtual manual, users will also be able to check out videos detailing various procedures or vehicle systems. The app also allows you to contact Chrysler with questions concerning the car, as well as access the Jeep community or other things. While it is currently available just for the iPhone, Chrysler assures us that versions for the Android mobile OS and for the Blackberry OS are in development. If you want to see the app in action, then hit the jump and check out the video demonstration. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Nissan Juke already a hit in Japan, prepares for US and European debut this fall Posted: 18 Jun 2010 12:11 AM PDT The 2011 Nissan Juke is definitely an odd-looking model, boasting a new style for the Japanese company. According to Nissan though, its looks, coupled with the capable 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and the various systems on the inside, will capture the hearts of young, urban customers. Many took this statement with a grain of salt, but according to early sales figures in Japan, the Juke is already selling like hotcakes. According to the country’s Nikkei business daily, the funky compact crossover has sold well over expectations, moving 1,300 units in its first week. Inside sources are claiming that 5,296 orders have already been placed as of Tuesday, making the Juke one of the fastest selling models in the recent history of the Japanese carmaker. While this is certainly all fine and dandy, the true test of the Nissan Juke will take place this fall, when it will arrive on the much harder to please American and European markets. First 4,400 Chevrolet Volt buyers might get free home charging stations Posted: 17 Jun 2010 11:53 PM PDT In case you’re bent on buying the upcoming Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle, then you’re in luck. It seems that the Department of Energy will be holding a separate promotion, through which the first 4,400 Volt owners will be getting a free 240-volt home charging station. There’s a gimmick though, as it seems that in exchange for the free charger, which retails for around $2,000, the DOE wants to collect data from the early buyers, in order to understand just what is needed for a more widespread electric vehicle use. The special 240V chargers will be made by ECOtality (2,600) and Coulomb Technologies (1,800). The two companies are also working with other EV manufacturers, like Nissan or Ford. Expect more details about the how the offer works to be made available when the Volt hits the market this fall. Source: General Motors Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Mansory Porsche Panamera Turbo prepares for US debut, won’t burn your eyes this time Posted: 17 Jun 2010 11:23 PM PDT At the end of last year, European tuning company Mansory revealed the first renders of its special tuning kit for the Porsche Panamera Turbo, detailing a more aggressive and lightweight body kit, as well as a power increase. A few weeks ago, the finished product was revealed. While we could most certainly applaud the new power ratings of 681 HP plus 516 lb-ft of torque, the biggest (and worst) reactions were aimed at the horrible exterior paint job, combining a bright cobalt blue with electro-yellow. Unhappy with the result, Mansory’s US importer, RTW Motoring, released a fresh batch of photos with the tuned Panamera Turbo. The photos serve as a tease for the US debut of the upgraded model, set to take place at the Orange County Barret-Jackson Car Auction, on June 24. As you can see above, decked out in a more normal shade of white, the Mansory Porsche Panamera Turbo isn’t half bad. Still, it’s going to take a long time before we can forget that horrible paint scheme. Source: RTW Motoring via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
