MR Car Design Audi Q7 Launched Posted: 21 Jan 2011 03:43 AM PST At the beginning of this week MR Car Design released their latest update to the tuning program for the Audi Q7, the model powered by the 4.2-liter TDI engine. The standard production model offers 326 hp and 760 Nm of torque and with the tuning program the engine is capable of outputting 374 hp and 870 Nm of torque. The annoying top speed limiter has been removed in this version which also got a new pair of K&N air filters and a re-mapped ECU. The new MR Car Design Audi Q7 is equipped with LED daytime running lights and indicator strips, along with the massive 22-inch alloy rims wrapped in 265/35-22 Icebear W300 tires. Inside, the car has the same steering wheel as the one found in the Audi RS6. The power increase costs 799 Euros while the air filters will set you back 160 Euros. The wheels and the tires cost 2599 Euros. The upgraded electronics cost another 299 Euros. The price for the Audi RS6 steering wheel is available to interested parties on request, according to the official press release. Design-wise, the car did not receive any changes which is a shame taking into consideration the power boost of 48 hp as well as the other changes brought to the engine compartment. Mitsubishi Global Small Concept Revealed Posted: 21 Jan 2011 03:25 AM PST A few days ago, the Japanese automaker Mitsubishi revealed new details regarding their Global Small Concept along with the first rendering of this new model. The idea behind this concept is to create a car that is affordable, compact and offers a high level of fuel economy. The car will be officially unveiled at the 81st edition of the Geneva International Motor Show which will be organized for two weeks at the Geneva Palexpo starting with March 1st. This concept will be the foundation of a new model that will be produced starting with next year at Mitsubishi's third plant located in Thailand. The Mitsubishi Global Small Concept will be fitted with either a 1.0-liter power unit or with a 1.2-liter engine with start / stop technology and a regenerative braking system. The engineers will emphasize on keeping the curb weight to a minimum level and reducing the running resistance. All of these concepts have been employed in the development of the all-new CVT transmission, the engine as well as the tires and the brake system. Design-wise, the body of the concept has been created in order to reduce the aerodynamic resistance, making the car even more fuel efficient. In addition, the car promises to offer great maneuverability and easy operation, inheriting the features of today's compact cars while at the same time offering enough space for five adults. Aside from the fuel efficiency, the car will have CO2 emissions of only mid-90g/km. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Vauxhall Corsa VXR Blue Edition Launched Posted: 21 Jan 2011 03:13 AM PST Exclusively for the UK market, General Motors launched the new Vauxhall Corsa XVR Blue special edition that entices customers with big cost savings on equipment in comparison to the standard model. The car is equipped with a 1.6-liter power unit that is capable of outputting 191 hp and 260 Nm of torque, allowing it to do the 0-60 mph sprint in 6.8 seconds, onto a top speed of 140 mph. Being a special edition, it comes bundled with some nice features like the Arden Blue metallic paint, dark-tinted glass, Recaro seats, bespoke interior air vents and cool 18-inch alloy rims. In comparison with the standard model, the Vauxhall Corsa VXR Blue has a more aggressive front end with deep in-set fog lamps along with a lower front spoiler and a wider front grille. The list of optional features available for the car include a switchable ESP – Electronic Stability Program, upgraded brakes as well as lowered sports suspension. Available only in the United Kingdom, the Vauxhall Corsa VX Blue has a starting price of 19,425 pounds and will be available at dealerships next month. Although it looks very cool in my opinion and has some great features, the price tag makes it less desirable in comparison with other cars in this segment that are way more affordable. Review – 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe Posted: 21 Jan 2011 02:58 AM PST Cadillac has never made something similar to the 2011 CTS-V Coupe, a $63,000 monster that is half a hot rod and half hedonist. This is the first time that Cadillac offers a car in this segment which should make it quite interesting. Let's start from the front of the car where we find a power bulge that is set among the creases carved by a stiletto and angling downwards into the stacked headlights. The angled, jutting shield of the grille points down at the bumper's central thrust which spears its way into the future and ends with a lipped skirt that drops very low. The CTS-V Coupe is as angled as it is muscular, or vice versa. From the side you don't get that same exciting look as the front offers you but its purpose is to perfectly blend the front with the back in a continuous and sporty line. The back with its highly raked rear glass means that the shoulder rises much lighter, and compared to the sedan version, the coupe is two inches lopped off the rear. Under the hood, the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe is fitted with a powerful 6.2-liter LSA V8 that churns 556 hp and a respectable 551 pound-feet of torque. With the GM's ionized handling innovations, the CTS-V Coupe handles just as good as the Corvette, although it packs some extra weight. The car pictured rolls on 19-inch rims covered by Michelin Sport 2 tires, offering plenty of grip in all road conditions. The 15-inch rotors in the front do a very good job at stopping this car, as they should. The interior of the car is not as great as the hardware power due the quality of the materials which is not that great, comparable to the interior quality of a car that is worth half the money. However, Cadillac promised that in two years, the interiors will be thoroughly upgraded, we are eager to see what the modifications will be. The leather on the steering wheel doesn't feel like real leather and the Recaro seats look like leather but they fell like wood which can't be comfortable. Those of you interested in this car should avoid the optional 6-speed automatic transmission and get the standard 6-speed manual gearbox. We can fully understand why Cadillac offers an automatic gearbox but the one available for the CTS-V Coupe doesn't live up to the rest of the car's hardware specifications. Most likely, people that can spend $65k for this car have been in other fast cars and they will certainly feel that something is missing which is why until Cadillac offers a new automatic gearbox, it would be best to get the standard manual transmission – better safe than sorry. Not as good as the BMW 3-Series or the 5-Series, the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe is not in the top segment but gets really close to the bimmers and other similar cars. It still is a great coupe, capable of combining lots of power with borderline prefect grip, wrapped in a very cool exterior design. What do you get for your money? You get a Nissan GT-R that has a Cadillac badge which sounds very good in my opinion. The CTS-V Coupe is a powerful sign of improvement coming from Cadillac and we should expect some great cars from the manufacturer in the years to come. In Depth – 2011 Bentley Mulsanne Posted: 21 Jan 2011 02:06 AM PST Tasked with making a new flagship that is capable of capturing the essence of the Bentley marquee – a high-end luxury automobile that is capable of taking down many of today's sports cars – the designers and engineers in Crewe did their very best and created the 2011 Mulsanne. The electronics of the car manage every single aspect of the Mulsanne's powerful V8 6.75-liter, from the ignition sequence to fuel delivery. Power on the engine and it whirls to life and after that you will get a near-silent idle. The car you see in these pictures is the North American-spec Bentley Mulsanne that has Pale Sapphire paint and a Cashew interior with French Navy contrasting color. The starting price for the car is $285,000 without the $2,595 destination fee. The car pictured comes pre-loaded with a bundle of optional features, like the massive 21-inch Polished Sport Wheels that cost $6,315; the Seat Ventilation & Massage that cost extra $3,000; the Adaptive Cruise Control which adds another $3,270 to the final price tag; Burr Oak Veneer – $4,630; Naim Premium Audio – $7,415 and a Flying "B" Radiator Mascot. Add to all of these the Valet Key that costs $250 and the Ambient Interior Mood Lightning that adds another $390 and the final price tag of this high-end car is $330,195. The 2011 Mulsanne has some of the best polished stainless steel door handles ever installed in a car and the insides have a special tactile knurling that delights your fingertips. With the new model, the company reinstated its proprietary tanning process for the hides which means that the new Mulsanne benefits from an aromatic and rich leather balm which is quite different in comparison to what you find in other cars with "painted" leather interiors. Being a true Bentley, the inside is both sumptuous and lavish, both passenger-pampering and driver-focused. The steering wheel of the car isn't quite sculpted or meaty, but the grip of the leather, feel and texture is very smooth. The flagship model comes with 12-way power-operated heated and massaging seats that offer all the comfort you can get from a car's seat. The primary instrumentation of the vehicle is quite clear, but the many smaller glass buttons located on the center console and the center stack require a little bit of familiarization. The car features an 8-inch high-resolution screen that is located behind a veneered panel installed in the center of the dashboard and is capable of displaying an easy-to-read version of Audi's MMI (Multi Media Interface). We all know that all Bentleys are designed mostly for the driver, but rest assured that the2011 Mulsanne offers all the comfort in the world for its passengers. The front one has the identical accommodations as the driver and the rear ones (2+1) benefit from 8-way power-operated heated and massaging seats with memory features and lumbar support. The car benefits from four individual zones of the climate control system and the passengers in the rear seats have the possibility to move the front-passenger seat out of the way (not that they don't have plenty of leg room in the back). The multitude of controls is cleverly tucked out of the way inside the armrest that can be found in the rear center. The engine that we have mentioned at the beginning of the article has been around since the 60s, and was installed in many Bentley and Rolls-Royce cars. During its 50 years of service, the power unit has received several updates and in this Mulsanne it has been entirely reworked and got a new forged camshaft, new connecting rods and new lightweight pistons. With these improvements, the power unit churns 505 hp @ 4,200 rpm and at only 1,750 rpm it can offer a torque of 752 pound-feet. This engine is linked to an 8-speed automatic gearbox developed by ZF that comes with paddles mounted on the steering wheel for those drivers that still want to switch gears manually. With this hardware configuration, the 2011 Bentley Mulsanne is capable of doing the 0-60 mph sprint in only 5.1 seconds, 0-100 mph in 11.6 seconds. With a curb weight of 5,700 pounds, the car is faster than a Porsche Cayman S which has half of the Bentley's weight. A premiere for a car in this segment is the variable displacement which means that the valves close in four of the cylinders in order to maximize fuel efficiency during normal cruising. Bentley's are known to be driver's cars so the Mulsanne is no exception to this rule and comes with a rotary switch for altering the suspension as well as the steering responses. The four driving modes available are: Bentley, Sport, Comfort and Custom. That heavy power under the hood must be stopped efficiently and for this reason the engineers at Bentley fitted the 2011 Mulsanne with massive brakes that measure 15.75 inches in the front with 6-piston calipers and 14.60 inches for the rear wheels with 2-piston calipers. The 21-inch optional rims we mentioned before are covered by 265/45ZR21 performance tires. When you stomp the brakes, the nose will drop as the weight is transferred forward. Although it has a pretty considerable price tag, the 2011 Bentley Mulsanne is worth every single dollar, offering a great driving experience combined with all the comfort in the world. The steering is as smooth as it gets, the brakes are very efficient, and the interior cabin features some of the best and expensive materials available. Being a hand-crafted luxury sedan, the Mulsanne is a luxury automobile that perfectly blends the fun of driving with a bundle of comfort features for both the driver and the rest of the passengers. The 2011 Bentley Mulsanne can be described as a car faster than the Porsche Cayman S and with all the luxury features that you would expect from a car that belongs to the high-end luxury segment. Of course, all of these come at a very hefty price. Source: AutoBlog.com Post published on Rpmgo.com |
2012 Porsche 911 Prototype Stuck In Snow Posted: 20 Jan 2011 06:27 AM PST Without any doubt the Porsche 911 (regardless of generation) was not made for driving through a meter of snow. These spy photos show us a 2012 Porsche 911 stuck in the snow, as the car is undergoing development testing in Scandinavia. Most likely, the driver of the 911 lost control of the car on his way to the ice track and he made a quick stop into a snow bank. Luckily, nobody was hurt but the driver of the Porsche had to wait for a colleague to come with a Cayenne in order to get that 911 prototype out of the snow bank. The 2012 Porsche 911 will come as standard with the 3.4-liter Boxer engine that will produce 345 hp ( 350 PS / 257 kW), allowing it to do the 0-60 mph sprint in 4.8 seconds, onto a top speed of 180 mph (289 km/h). The 911 Carrera S will be equipped with a revised 3.8-liter engine that will output 395 hp (400 PS / 294 kW), allowing it to reach 60 mph in only 4.5 seconds and have a top speed of 188 mph (302 km/h). The upcoming generation of the Porsche 911 will be unveiled later on this year. Photos via WorldCarFans.com Post published on Rpmgo.com |
China’s Auto Market Will Grow Even Further Posted: 20 Jan 2011 06:12 AM PST Even though the Chinese automotive market is very big at the moment, one of the Chinese auto executives has predicted that it will double in size to 40 million units over the next ten years. This prediction was made by Dazong Wang who is the president of Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. For this prediction to come to life, it means that China's annual rate of sales growth will only have to be 50% in comparison to the last ten years. With these incredible figures, almost half of the worldwide car production will be concentrated in China. However, he said that the Chinese auto market will not follow Japan's market and become a center of automotive manufacturing. He said that the Chinese automakers will be making most of the cars for the domestic market, not unlike Japan that focuses on global sales. In the last ten years, coastal cities like Guangzhou and Shanghai had a very powerful growth and now it seems that also the inland cities are seeing a significant boom of an emerging middle-class who wants to buy better developed cars. Due to the traffic congestions that create serious problems, the Chinese government is already capping the amount of registrations that they are allowing. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 20 Jan 2011 06:01 AM PST The aging 612 Scaglietti supercar needs a replacement and Ferrari is working on that – spy shots have been uploaded on the Internet in the last few months. In addition to Scaglietti's successor, the Italian carmaker is also planning to exhibit something "very different" at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show which will be organized this March. Sources say that Ferrari will be unveiling a limited edition Shooting Brake of the 612 Scaglietti. A couple of lucky individuals will be able to see a new Ferrari, possibly the Shooting Brake or its successor, on Friday, January 21st at 12:00 CET, or 6:00 AM Eastern time at an online-only viewing affair. As we mentioned, we have seen many spy photos of the 612 replacement and although the final design has been camouflaged, we can say that the car looks sexy. The front end of the car was inspired by another beautiful Ferrari, the 458 Italia. According to some sources, the new car will have a powerful V12 6.3-liter that will output about 670 hp. Hopefully, we will be able to obtain more information after that private event with the help of some leaks, fingers crossed. Most likely, this Ferrari will be one of the main highlights at Geneva this year. Photos via AutoBlog.com Post published on Rpmgo.com |
