The Italian Job (Original Version) We know that Benny Hill started in it, but it still is a great movie nevertheless. The Mini Cooper chase sequence was simply astonishing. Filmed in Turin, that scene was simply breathtaking. My single complaint about this movie is about the opening scene where they ruin a beautiful Lamborghini Miura. Other than that, the movie is perfect for those who love cars. Mad Max (First Movie) The Australian Ford Falcon featured in the original Mad Max was one of my favorite cars during childhood. The movie was great as it had all the necessary ingredients: suspense, violence, drama, dark humor and that cool-looking supercharged Falcon. Perfect recipe I would say. Le Mans Despite the fact that the plot of the movie along with the dialogs where pretty simple (to say at least), the camerawork was great, especially when Steve McQueen hustles a classic Porsche 911S along the deserted French lanes. A true classic of the genre. Bullitt Probably one of the best movies about cars, if you haven't seen it, you've missed a lot. Steve McQueen, a beautiful Ford Mustang Fastback, a Dodge Charger that ploughs into a fuel station and explodes, lots of bad guys that end up dead, gunfire, and the list goes on forever -what more could you want from a movie? Gone In 60 Seconds (Both Movies) Both the original movie from 1974 and the more recent one starring Nicolas Cage were great for one reason: all of the cars on the list were super-fine. And who can forget about the famous Eleanor? Days of Thunder Think of it as the automotive version of Top Gun. Stock car driver (Tom Cruise) gets the opportunity to compete in Nascar and does his best in becoming number one. It featured wheel-to-wheel races, ramming into the competitor, making it a classic car movie of the early 90s. The Gumball Rally With cars like the Shelby 427 Cobra, the Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona and the Porsche 911 Targa, it had to make it into our top. Here is a great quote from the movie: "And now my friend, the first rule of Italian driving: What's behind me is not important." Grand Prix If you are a fan of Formula 1, you definitely have to see this movie. Featuring 1960s F1 cars, the story of this movie is about open-wheel racing. Those were the golden days of the competition, when men actually drove the cars, without any fancy electronics. See this movie to find out more about the early days of F1. Goldfinger No top about movies with great cars would be complete without a 007 Bond car. The Aston Martin DB5 featured in Goldfinger was not only very beautiful, but special as it had machine guns, an ejector seat, tire-shredding drills and a bulletproof rear shield. Definitely a must see movie. Vanishing Point (Original) Considered by many the best car chase movie, it is about a delivery driver that has to shift a Dodge Challenger from Denver to San Francisco in 15 hours. We'll let you find out what happens on his adventure, but rest assure, it's great. Photos: IMDb Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Cars We Hate Part 4 – Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible Posted: 03 Apr 2011 02:43 AM PDT The four-door version of the Chrysler PT Cruiser had indeed a somewhat retro appeal which doesn't make it that ugly, although many of you will certainly disagree with me. The convertible version is without any doubt one of the ugliest cars ever made, especially if you look at it from the back. On most cars, chopping off the roof makes it more attractive, this is definitely not the case. The basket-like handle behind the door may add stiffness and safety to the car, but it makes it simply awful to look at. Since its introduction in late 1999, Chrysler managed to sell 1.35 million units of the PT Cruiser (both 5-door and convertible versions) and on July 9th, 2010 the production ended. Rumors – Ford Fiesta ST Will Get 180 HP Engine Posted: 02 Apr 2011 09:59 AM PDT More and more details about the 2012 Ford Fiesta ST have surfaced the Internet this week. One of the newest hot hatches, it will sport an aggressive front fascia, a new rear bumper with an integrated diffuser, as well as a tailgate-mounted spoiler. Inside, there aren't going to be any significant changes but we should expect to see Recaro sport seats and an updated trim. According to various rumors, the Fiesta ST will be powered by a 1.6-liter Ecoboost engine that cranks out 180 hp (182 PS / 134 kW). This power unit is going to be linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 6-speed PowerShift automatic optional choice will most likely be available, especially for the U.S.-spec model. The car should hit the dealerships sometime next year. Until then, Ford is testing the water for the ST with a limited edition Fiesta S1600. Announced last month, they are only going to make 500 units, all of them featuring a 1.6-liter engine that develops 134 hp, for a starting price of 15,895 pounds. Hugo Boss teams up with McLaren to dress Jenson and Lewis Posted: 02 Apr 2011 08:02 AM PDT It’s not exactly every boy’s dream, but it’ll do. McLaren and Hugo Boss are challenging their fans to a design competition: they’re asked to submit their sketches of a pair of overalls for Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton to wear on the Saturday of your home GP Although it’s not the same as putting your fine design touches on an F1 car, it’s as close as you’ll get to being famous for doing something related to Formula 1, unless you’re an insanely talented driver. What do you think about this competition? Would you actually enroll in it? Source: Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Facebook page. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
GeigerCars Unleashes Ford Mustang Shelby GT640 Golden Snake Posted: 02 Apr 2011 08:00 AM PDT The GT500 has always been one of my favorite muscle cars since the epic movie "Gone in 60 seconds", starring Nicholas Cage. Well, it seems that Elanor is back in 2011, courtesy of GeigerCars. Dubbed the Ford Mustang Shelby GT640 Golden Snake, it comes with an exquisite matte gold exterior look, along with a carbon fiber bonnet, a front lip spoiler and extended side skirts. They've fitted the car with an adjustable H&R sports suspension and big 20-inch alloy rims, wrapped around in Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber. Under that carbon hood, you'll find a V8 5.4-liter engine that has been fitted with a supercharger, along with a revised ECU and a stainless steel sport exhaust system. All of these upgrades add up to a total power output of 631 hp (640 PS / 471 kW) and 582 lb.-ft (789 Nm). This additional power available allows the car to do the 0-62 mph sprint in 3.7 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 183 mph (295 km/h). All of the components are going to be available for purchase individually, but the demo model can be yours for $125,475 (89,000 Euros). Source: GeigerCars via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Saab, Confronting With Serious Financial Problems Posted: 02 Apr 2011 07:30 AM PDT I've always liked Saab for reasons that I can't really explain. Maybe because they have something special that you can't find in an Audi, BMW, Mercedes, etc. Anyway, it seems that the Spyker-owned car manufacturer is in real trouble this time. In Spyker's annual report, the company warned that the automaker's future could become uncertain if they don't find new funding. In the last few months that have passed, a Russian investor by the name of Vladimir Antonov has made it quite clear that he is willing to give the automaker the necessary funds, but Victor Mueller, Spyker's CEO, has denied reports that Antonov's Conversbank is in discussions to provide the car manufacturer a new $710 million loan. We'll have to wait and see what will happen to Saab. I really hope that they'll resolve all of these financial problems. Bugatti Galibier, Heading For Production? Posted: 02 Apr 2011 07:00 AM PDT Ever since it was revealed, there have been many rumors and speculation about a production model based on the Bugatti Galibier concept. According to some unidentified sources cited by Bloomberg, the car will be launched in 2013 or 2014 and will have a starting price of about $1.42 million (1 million Euros). As a reminder, the concept featured a 5-door hatchback body style with a bespoke interior. It had a huge 16-cylinder 8.0-liter supercharged engine that most likely produced between 789 hp (800 PS / 588 kW) and 986 hp (1,000 PS / 735 kW). We'll have to wait and see if these rumors turn out to be true. Source: Bloomberg via Motor Authority via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Renault Samsung SM7 Concept Revealed Posted: 02 Apr 2011 06:30 AM PDT It looked awesome last week when we saw the teaser; it's even more beautiful now when we have some proper images. Revealed at the Seoul Motor Show, the Renault Samsung SM7 Concept is by far the most beautiful car I've seen this year. This concept previews the production model and features a very attractive design with soft lines, LED lightning units and a prominent grille. Although there isn't any info about its specifications, rumors say that it rides on the D platform that underpins the Nissan Maxima / Teana. In other words, expect to see a V6 2.5-liter engine that develops 182 hp (185 PS / 136 kW) and 171 lb.-ft (232 Nm) of torque, along with a more powerful V6 3.5-liter that produces 251 hp (254 PS / 187 kW) and 247 lb.-ft (335 Nm) of torque. More information will be revealed once the production model nears its launch date. Stay tuned. Source: Renault-Samsung Motors via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
edo Competition Koenigsegg CCR Posted: 02 Apr 2011 06:00 AM PDT What do you get when you tune a supercar like the Koenigsegg CCR? You turn it into a hypercar! This is what the engineers at edo Competition had in mind. This tuning program is a result of a CCR owner that for reasons that I can't understand, wanted more oomph under the hood. To satisfy his thirst for more power, the tuners modified the drive ratio and installed a remapped ECU. The result? Well, the V8 4.7-liter engine not only hits its torque peak earlier, but it also delivers more horsepower, to be more exact – 879 hp (891 PS / 655 kW). In addition, to fix the "notchy gear changes", edo's engineers disassembled the CCR's transmission and replaced the plastic bushings with Uniball units. Thanks to these modifications, the car's acceleration has improved, along with an enhanced drivability. They also made a couple of changes inside the cabin, which now features Alcantara upholstery, an updated center console, a tire pressure monitoring system that comes with a display that is integrated into the dashboard, along with a new infotainment system. Volvo Plans To Hire 1,200 Workers And Increase Production Capacity Posted: 02 Apr 2011 05:30 AM PDT As most of you already know, the China-based Geely company is the owner of the Volvo brand, and they have big plans for the car manufacturer for the years to come. They want to reach 800,000 global sales annually by 2020 (or sooner). In order to make this happen, Volvo must increase the capacity of its factories and hire new employees. It is always a healthy sign when you hear that a manufacturer hires more workers and increases production. Let's hope that this trend will involve soon other car manufacturers as well.
