Tata Nano convertible gets used around the factory Posted: 15 Jun 2010 05:19 AM PDT Everybody remembers the Tata Nano right? The low-cost (albeit fire-prone) small car phenomenon that has already gripped India, right? Well, you know what the Nano really needs, besides aftermarket tuning options or things like that? A convertible version. That’s at least what the Indian plant where the Nano is made believed, as it has manufactured a few convertible versions of the Nano, in order to transport visitors around factory grounds in style and with the wind in their hair. Although it seems the car has endured a few other modifications, like the tribal decals on the side or the step bar, the sight of a Nano without a roof is mighty impressive. Still, don’t expect it to actually be available to the public, as the Nano was already cutting it close in terms of structural integrity as a coupe, so a convertible edition might be downright dangerous to drive. Video: 2011 Ford Mustang gets Vaughn Gittin Jr. RTR performance pack Posted: 15 Jun 2010 05:02 AM PDT The 2011 Ford Mustang has certainly become extremely popular ever since it was announced that it will be packing improved engines, including a new 5.0-liter V8. Now, in order to satisfy those who want even more power squeezed from the Blue Oval muscle car, Ford has partnered with Formula Drift’s Vaughn Gittin Jr. for a special RTR performance package for the ‘11 ‘Stang. Don’t go thinking that these are just cosmetic improvements, as besides the special 19-inch RTR wheels, wrapped in Falken FK452 performance tires, you’ll be getting an improved suspension system, that lowers the Mustang by 1.5 inches, a larger rear sway bar, as well as cross-drilled brake rotors. The 5.0-liter V8 engine hasn’t seen big improvements, but thanks to a new K&N air filter, a Ford Racing ECU remap and a revised exhaust system, 9 more HP were added, taking the total to 421 HP. The visual impact of the 2011 Ford Mustang RTR is augmented by a new front splitter, an aluminum spoiler plus special graphics. For the inside, RTR badges were added. The cost for the Vaughn Gittin Jr.-approved RTR package for the 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0 V8? Just $7,895. A version for the V6 ‘Stang is also in the works, but won’t appear anytime soon. Check out this tuned 2011 Ford Mustang in a video after the jump. Source: Ford via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Diamond and gold Bugatti Veyron scale model costs $2.9 million Posted: 15 Jun 2010 04:45 AM PDT The Bugatti Veyron is one very expensive hypercar, as it currently costs well over $1 million in ’stock’ form, and can go way above if you opt for one of the plethora of special editions or luxury features. Now, things have gone even crazier, as a replica of the Bugatti Veyron, made out of 24 karat gold and studded in 7.2 carats worth of diamonds has been revealed. The price for this 1:18 model of the expensive hypercar? Just $2.9 million (£2 million, exactly). Still, for that money you’ll be getting a replica with fully-functional doors and hoods, plus a working steering system. Only three models will be made, courtesy of Robert Gulpen of Munich & Stuart Hughes of Liverpool. So, interested in buying an expensive car or an even more expensive replica? The choice is yours, but no matter what, your wallet is gonna cry. Source: Stuart Hughes via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Suzuki recalls 46,000 Grand Vitara and XL-7 SUVs over power steering problems Posted: 15 Jun 2010 04:27 AM PDT Suzuki has just announced a new recall, which affects 46,549 2006 Grand Vitara and 2005-2006 XL-7 SUVs. The models in question have a problem with a plastic tension adjuster pulley, encased in the power steering assembly. It seems that in severe heat, the plastic pulley may deteriorate and eventually fall to pieces. This would make steering much more difficult, especially considering the size of the Japanese SUVs. Customers will be notified as soon as possible, and a free replacement for the pulley in question will be added in dealerships, free of cost. For more details, you can contact Suzuki at 1-800-934-0934. Source: NHTSA Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Posted: 14 Jun 2010 05:50 AM PDT Welcome to a new edition of Motorsport Weekend, our own feature where we talk about the best motorsport events in the last three days. This week, we were treated to one of the most prestigious endurance events in the world, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, that took place in France. Besides that, Formula 1 held its Canadian GP this weekend, while Nascar saw two races take place, one in Kentucky, for the Nationwide Series, and one in Michigan, for the Sprint Cup. So, it seems there was something for everyone. Curious to see how Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber, Denny Hamlin or Brad Keselowski did in their respective events? Hit the jump to find out. In the end, McLaren once again achieved a 1-2 finish, with Hamilton seeing the checkered flag first, followed by teammate Jenson Button and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. While Red Bull duo Vettel and Webber gave the McLaren boys some trouble, in the end the Brits came out on top, largely thanks to better pit strategies. Still, we were treated to quite a lot of drama during the race, with a lot involving Michael Schumacher, which took the fighting a bit too seriously in some cases. Overall standings show Hamilton in the lead, with 109 points. Button and Webber closely follow, with 106 and 103 points, respectively. Team standings see McLaren in the lead, with 215 points, followed by Red Bull (193) and Ferrari (161). Moving onto the Nascar races, we were once again treated to two separate events. The Meijer 300 was held at the Kentucky Speedway, counting for the Nationwide Series, while the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 took place at the Michigan International Speedway, counting for the Sprint Cup. First, the Nationwide race. The main conflict was between pole-sitter Joey Logano and Carl Edwards, as the two swapped the lead of the race for quite some time. In the end Logano came out on top, managing to win this race for the third time in a row. Brad Keselowski completed the podium. Standings still show Keselowski in an impressive lead, Trailing him is Carl Edwards, 272 points behind, followed by Justin Allgaier, 313 points behind. Moving onto the Sprint Cup event, we were treated to another show of force by Denny Hemlin, which le for the majority of the race. A late caution could have thrown the driver off the lead, but his strategy was rock solid. Runner up was Kasey Kahne, followed by Kurt Busch. Overall standings see Kevin Harvick in the lead, followed by Kyle Busch (22 points behind) and Hamlin (47 points behind). By far the most expected race from the last weekend was the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance event. The main rivalry, at least during the beginning of the race, was between the main diesel-powered prototypes, the Peugeot 908 and the Audi R15. The LMP1 battle waged on for quite some time, but even though it looked like the French team had the win in the bag, many mechanical failures left the Audi team to sweep the podium. First came the #9 R15, followed by #8 and #7. The LMP2 class was won by former Acura-badged prototype HPD ARX-01, raced by Strakka Racing. It was followed by OAK Racing’s Pescarolo 01 and by RML’s Lola prototype. In the GT1 category, the Larbre Competition Saleen S7R put up a stiff fight with the #60 Ford GT, but seeing as how the Blue Oval model retired before the end, it passed the checkered flag first in its class. It was followed by the Luc Alphand Corvette C6.R and the Young Driver AMR’s Aston Martin DBR9. Last but not least, the GT2 category saw the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR from Team Felbermayr Proton cross the finish line first, followed by Hankook Farnbacher’s Ferrari F430 and BMS Scuderia Italia’s Porsche 911. BMW fans were pretty sad after the race, as the #78 M3 GT2 (the regular race car) managed to finish 6h in its GT2 category and 19th overall. The #79 BMW Art Car was plagued by mechanical problems, and was forced to retired 20 hours into the race. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
