Porsche 911 GT2 RS leaked before its official debut

Porsche 911 GT2 RS leaked before its official debut

Porsche’s most aggressive 911 yet has just been leaked onto the Internet, courtesy of a picture taken at a dealers-only event.

It seems that the Stuttgart carmaker wasn’t satisfied with the outrageous 911 GT2, and will soon release the even more hardcore 911 GT2 RS edition. It seems that the new model, which will no doubt cost a few arms and legs, will have enough power to put even the famous Carrera GT to shame.

According to some tipsters, it might produce as much as 620 HP. Seeing as this is an RS version, expect many race-ready upgrades to be made, and a serious reduction in curb weight (around 200 pounds, it seems). Also, for those not in the know, all the power of the GT2 RS is going to be sent to the rear wheels.

Apparently the formal reveal will take place at the end of next week. But until then, these details are definitely going to make quite a lot of fans extremely excited.

Video: Audi reveals first Next Big Thing short film

Audi’s taking the marketing for the upcoming A1 city car up a few levels, and has been teasing us with ‘The Next Big Thing’ short film, in which singer Justin Timberlake and the lovely Dania Ramirez star.

Now, the waiting is over and the German company released the first short film (1 of 6), in which a regular guy’s world is shaken up by criminals and the A1 is his best weapon.

This first short video details everything you need to know for the rest of the movie and is pretty heavy on the action. Don’t believe me? Then hit the jump and watch the first video in Audi’s ‘Next Big Thing’.

Volkswagen confirms interest in Formula 1

Volkswagen confirms interest in Formula 1

After plenty of rumors and speculations, former performance driver Hans-Joachim Stuck, now Volkswagen’s motorsport representative, has confirmed that the German company is interested in the Formula 1 competition.

Before you think a new team will emerge, the official followed up, saying it will only supply engines to competing teams, and won’t go the same route Mercedes-Benz did, which formed its own GP team this season.

At the same time, Volkswagen did say it is still waiting on a decision from the FIA, F1’s ruling body, on what new type of engines will be adopted in 2013. As you all know, the current 2.4-liter V8 units might be replaced with smaller, turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engines, in order to increase efficiency and lower emissions.

Still, this news should definitely make a lot of fans happy, as it will (hopefully) lead to a more exciting Formula 1 championship.

Volkswagen presents electric Golf Blue-e-motion, plans three EVs by 2013

Volkswagen has just revealed a few details about its electric future, at a recent event held in Germany that celebrates the launch of the National Platform for Electric Mobility, a public-private partnership that will ensure the infrastructure and production of zero emission vehicles.

At this gathering, VW showcased its first electric prototype, the Golf Blue-e-motion. The e-Golf, for short, will use a lithium-ion battery pack, that can allow for an autonomy of 93 miles, per each charge. The pack sends its power to a 85 kW (114 HP) electric motor, that can develop an impressive 199 lb-ft of torque from zero rpm. The unit is connected to a single-speed gearbox and a differential.

The pretty powerful e-Golf prototype (0 to 62 mph in 11.8 seconds), is the first of a test fleet of 500 vehicles, set to roll down Germany’s roads starting next year. The test EVs will provide valuable insight to the VW engineers.

This research, according to the German company, will be used in 2013, when it plans to release three electric vehicles. First will be the Up blue-e-motion city car, followed by the next generation Golf blue-e-motion and finally by the next Jetta compact sedan EV.

Infiniti recalls over 134,000 G35 coupes and sedans over airbag issues

Infiniti recalls over 134,000 G35 coupes and sedans over airbag issues

It seems this week has been filled with multiple recalls, all from pretty important carmakers. Now, Infiniti is joining the ‘party’, as it has announced a global recall of over 134,000 G35 coupe and sedan models manufactured around the mid 2000s.

The affected models are: 2005 and 2006 G35 sedans and 2005 through 2007 G35 coupes, sold all around the world, not just in the USA. It seems that these models were fitted with improper airbag wire harnesses, which, after an extended period of time, may wear down, leading to the airbag not deploying when a crash occurs.

Luckily no incidents or injuries were reported as of yet, but Infiniti will begin announcing all owners of such models of the potential defect. The Japanese luxury carmaker has not yet informed the NHTSA just what fix it will implement, but you can clearly guess that a new airbag assembly is required.

GM’s ‘deceptive’ Whitacre commercial targeted by FTC complaint

GM's 'deceptive' Whitacre commercial targeted by FTC complaint

A few weeks ago, General Motors announced that it has repaid in full the cash bailout it received from the US and Canadian governments, ahead of schedule.

In order to really boast its achievement, the company unveiled a new ad, with its CEO, Ed Whitacre, strolling down an assembly plant of new GM models and saying that the company is on its way back to a good financial situation, as it has “repaid the government loan in full, with interest, five years ahead of the original schedule.”

But things might not be so rosy for GM, as a complaint against its commercial has been lodged with the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) by advocacy group Competitive Enterprise Institute. In it, GM’s ad is called deceptive, as it fooled the public.

According to the critics, it seems GM paid back those government loans from another federal bailout account. The complaint says that the ad “gives the false impression that GM has used its own funds to pay back all the bailout money that it received from the federal government. In fact, GM has only repaid a fraction of those funds — barely 10 percent. Moreover, GM apparently repaid its loan by using other federal funds."

As you may remember, GM paid only the cash loans it received, but the US government still holds around $50 billion in company shares, which will be paid back when the company goes public, presumably at the end of the year.

In regards to this complaint, a GM spokesperson revealed that the company is confident its ad meets FTC standards. If an investigation will be opened by the federal commission, we might be in for some interesting things.

US-spec 2012 Buick compact sedan (Excelle) leaked in patent sketches

US-spec 2012 Buick compact sedan (Excelle) leaked in patent sketches width=

Patent sketches once again foil the somewhat secretive plans of GM. After the Chevrolet Volt MPV5 concept was leaked before its debut at the Beijing Motor Show, another filing with the US Patent Office has revealed a new Buick compact sedan.

From the looks of it, this new model is almost exactly like the Buick Excelle, current available in China. It will no doubt be based on GM’s Delta platform, the same one that underpins the Chevy Cruze or the Opel Astra.

Still, according to a few voices, the compact sedan, that will slot in below the upcoming Regal, won’t be carrying the Excelle name in the US, but a completely new one, set to mark a fresh start for compact Buick models.

Expect the future 2012 model year sedan to boast a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, like the Cruze, but also a bigger 180 HP 1.6-liter turbo unit, like the Chinese Excelle.

Volkswagen taking final orders on current generation New Beetle

Volkswagen taking final orders on current generation New Beetle

Volkswagen hailed the launch of the current generation New Beetle as something along the lines of the second coming, hoping that the retro-inspired compact would garner the same huge sales as the original Beetle cult car.

Sadly, at lest for the company, the high price coupled with lackluster marketing made the New Beetle a flop. Thanks to new rumors though, it seems that the next generation (new new beetle) will actually try to be a proper compact car, in order to rival stiff opposition like the Mini Cooper or Fiat 500.

Still, if you’re set on owning a current New Beetle, you’d better get one soon, as Volkswagen will cease production in the near future, making them only a collector’s item. If you’re lucky, you can even get one of the Final Edition New Beetles, which were paraded through the 2009 LA Auto Show.

If you do have some common sense though, it’s best to wait until the end of the year when the new New Beetle will be presented to the public.

Wheelsandmore presents tuned Bentley Continental Ultrasports 702

The Bentley Continental is one might impressive luxury sportscar. But seeing as how its top of the range version, the Supersports, ‘only’ extracted 620 HP from that massive W12 6.0-liter engine, the tuners at Wheelsandmore decided that a few upgrades might be in order.

So, after a bit of tinkering and adding things like an optimized ECU, a new exhaust system, a set of 21-inch, 3-piece modular wheels plus an electronically-adjustable suspension, the Bentley Continental Ultrasports 702 was born.

The new British luxury sportscar now develops a whopping 702 HP with 650 lb-ft of torque. Together with the other bespoke features, we’re pretty sure this package from Wheelsandmore will attract quite a few performance fans, not happy with the stock Supersports.
