Citroen C3 Test Drive

A week after we tested the Panzer tank which was the BMW 5 Series GT, we had the opportunity to try out a totally different type of model, the new Citroen C3. If the previous generation wasn’t really my cup of tea, the new one seems pretty chic, at least at first glance. But let’s see how it all went:

Porsche 911 GT2 RS officially revealed and detailed

Seeing as how the car was leaked way before its official debut, Porsche decided to properly showcase the stunning 911 GT2 RS.

While up until its release, we heard some great rumors, we now know for sure: this awesome model will be the fastest road legal Porsche money can buy.

Interested in technical specs? Here they are: 620 HP from a twin-turbo 3.6-liter engine, 154 lbs less than the current 911 GT2, six-speed manual which sends power to the rear wheels and, for the eco-conscious of you, 5% better fuel economy and lower emissions.

The performance times aren’t too shabby either, with 0 to 62 in 3.4 seconds and a Nurburgring Nordschleife time of 7 minutes and 18 seconds.

In case you might like to own the fastest Porsche you can drive on the road, then prepare to cough up $245,000 and hurry, as only 500 units will be made. Expect even more details and pictures as we approach the official presentation of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS at the Moscow Auto Show in August.

Toyota might be working on a smaller and cheaper FT-86 version

Toyota might be working on a smaller and cheaper FT-86 version

According to various inside sources, the Toyota FT-86 concept, introduced as a preview for a fresh yet affordable rear-wheel drive sports coupe, won’t exactly uphold its promise, as development costs and focus group testing shows that it might be priced way above the estimated $20,000 mark and will only appeal to those over 40.

As such, a new rumor has just appeared, courtesy of the guys from Road and Track. They say that the Japanese carmaker still wants to release an affordable RWD coupe, and to that end it will produce a smaller and cheaper version of the production FT-86.

According to the magazine, the car might be powered by the 1.5-liter inline-four cylinder unit we saw on the Scion xB, capable of 109 HP. Now, we don’t know about you, but that doesn’t exactly scream RWD sports coupe.

Still, if this will allow Toyota to introduce the model under the $20k mark, then a lot of people would surely be interested in it.

What do you think? Would this smaller and cheaper but not that powerful baby Toyota FT-86 be any good? Share your thoughts below.

Video: Autonomous Volkswagen reverse powerslides into parking spot, humiliates humans

We could fill this space with some text about the autonomous endeavors of Volkswagen together with Stanford University’s science team to create cars that drive themselves, even on famous rally courses like Pikes Peak.

But that would just distract you from the fact at hand: this robot-controlled autonomous Volkswagen can reverse powerslide (essentially a J-Turn) into a parking spot with minimum error.

Hit the jump to check out a video demonstration plus the whole science behind how the car can actually learn maneuvers, not just use complicated routines in everyday driving conditions.

Porsche Panamera defeats 911 in April sales

Porsche Panamera defeats 911 in April sales

While Porsche purists will be forever in love with a 911, it seems that actual Porsche customers are far more interested in the other models available in the range, more specifically the Cayenne or the new Panamera.

We’ve already known the proverbial hot-cake status of the Cayenne, but in April, while dealerships were preparing to welcome the 2011 generation of the best selling SUV, it was the Panamera’s time to shine.

According to official sales figures, the four-door Porsche managed to sell 678 models, more than double the number of 911 units sold in the same month and totally eclipsing the performance of the more entry-level models, the Cayman and Boxster.

If the Panamera continues its high sales and the 2011 Cayenne confirms its status of best seller, then Porsche will definitely be laughing all the way to the bank. Purists shouldn’t be too sad though, as this means some of that money will also be invested in the 911.

Sergio Marchionne details future Chrysler plans, rebadged Fiat models incoming

Sergio Marchionne details future Chrysler plans, rebadged Fiat models incoming

Sergio Marchionne is pretty pleased with how things are going for its two companies, Fiat and Chrysler. That’s why he has just revealed a few more details about the future of the ailing US carmaker, which was bailed out last year.

The Italian CEO talked about a few things with Automotive News recently, including the next Chrysler Sebring (or Nassau) and Dodge Avenger, the direction of Jeep plus the possibility of rebadged Fiat compact models appearing under the Pentastar logo.

First off, Marchionne revealed that the new Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger models will have improved looks but also overhauled interiors, a problem which plagued the two sedans ever since their conception. The models will soon hit at the end of the year.

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, set to launch this June, will provide a new icon for fans of the brand, according to Marchionne. Overhauls to the Wrangler and Patriot will arrive after the Grand Cherokee proves its worth (possibly with a performance SRT8 variant).

Most importantly, the Italian CEO of Chrysler talked about the arrival of several compact Fiat models on US soil under the Chrysler logo. He says that positive earnings have already pushed their launch from 2012 to late 2011, and these new models will arrive sooner than expected. The Italian-sourced compacts will complete the Chrysler lineup, which desperately needs to put a model onto the city car segment.

All in all, Marchionne predicts a pretty positive future for Chrysler under his leadership. Hopefully, for Pentastar fans, those predictions will come true sooner or later.

Audi adds eight-speed automatic gearbox to A4, A5 and Q5 this fall

Audi adds eight-speed automatic gearbox to A4, A5 and Q5 this fall

Audi first announced its new eight-speed automatic transmission for the 2011 A8 flagship limousine. After that, the 2011 Q7 refresh has also been confirmed to get the new automatic ‘box.

Now, the company announced that the transmission will also be making its way onto specific A4, A5 and Q5 models as soon as this fall. The 2011 A4 2.0-liter TFSI quattro edition, both in sedan and Avant form, will receive the new gearbox, as well as the 2011 A5 2.0-liter TFSI quattro coupe and cabriolet. The Q5, equipped with the … you guessed it, 2.0-liter TFSI engine will receive the new transmission as well.

At the beginning of fall, two versions of the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine will appear in the Q7 range, replacing the older 3.6-liter V6 and 4.2-liter V8. The new units will also be paired with this gearbox.

Don’t go thinking this will just add to the curb weight of the models or make things worse, as Audi guarantees a better performance, a lower fuel average and, thanks to the compact packaging of those eight gears, no extra weight.
