Alfa Romeo set to launch 8C Competizione GTA: more power, less weight Posted: 17 May 2010 01:56 AM PDT Alfa Romeo celebrates its centenary this year, and has already seen beautiful concepts like the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa by Zagato, the Alfa Romeo 2uettottanta by Pininfarina or the Alfa Romeo Pandion by Bertone and will also hold a large meeting of Alfa fans (Alfisti) in Milan, during this summer. But according to a new report, the cherry on its anniversary cake will be an even more powerful version of the 8C Competizione supercar, which will receive the GTA badge. Besides the special name, the 8C GTA will also get 50 more HP, taking the total output from the 4.7-liter V8 to 500 HP. The special edition will also be put on a diet, which will shave off around 300 lbs from the curb weight. According to the same report, the Alfa Romeo 8C GTA will be announced in the following months and will boast a more hardcore experience. 100 models might be made, celebrating the 100 years of Alfa’s existence. While it is just a rumor, you might keep you checkbook handy for when the official word eventually hits. Source: Unica-Strada via Automarket Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Ford to revive Boss 302 Mustang with 2011 model? Posted: 17 May 2010 01:37 AM PDT Ford has been scoring a lot of points with muscle car fans ever since it announced that for the 2011 model year, the Mustang will receive a 5.0-liter V8 engine, capable of 412 HP. After that, the Blue Oval raised the nostalgia ante with the reveal of the Racing Mustang Boss 302R, which will hit at the end of the year and race in specific competitions. Performance upgrades were made and special suspension and braking systems were added to the ‘Stang. Now, according to the guys at Mustang Heaven, Ford might be preparing something even more special for its fans. The company might introduce a road-legal version of the 302R race car, thus reviving the Boss 302 Mustang moniker. Those with a sharp memory remember that the name designated a performance Mustang model made in 1969 and 1970 that captured the hearts of many Blue Oval fans. Now, we can’t say for sure if the company is preparing such a thing, but seeing as how the 2011 Mustang is already quite popular, a Boss 302 version might further augment sales and hype. Fifth Gear returns on June 3 with hot hatches and supercars Posted: 17 May 2010 01:13 AM PDT The Fifth Gear soap opera is set to be completed on June 3, when the British TV car show will return once more on Five. As you know, the project was almost scrapped by Five TV executives, but seeing the support from fans, they decided to give it another season. While the crew has been cut short, with Tom Ford and James Shaw leaving, we’ll still get some proper excitement with the likes of Tiff Needell, Jason Plato, Vicki Butler-Henderson and Jonny Smith. The first episode of season 17 will air on June 3, at 7:30 PM (GMT+1) and, according to the FinalGear forums, will feature supercar tests with the McLaren MP4-12C and the Ferrari 458 Italia, a hot hatch challenge between the Ford Focus RS, the Renault Megane RS 250, the Mazda 3 MPS and the Volkswagen Scirocco R. Last but not least, Jonny Smith will throw the modern Smart ForTwo and Toyota iQ against the original Mini, in a city car challenge. Overall, we’re in for a great episode. June 3 can’t come quick enough! Source: FinalGear Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

2011 Ford Fiesta officially rated at 40 mpg highway with PowerShift gearbox Posted: 17 May 2010 12:51 AM PDT Ford has been hyping up the 2011 Fiesta for its upcoming US market launch, showcasing everything from its attractive design to its supercar-killing attributes. Now, the Blue Oval will be able to flaunt one more thing: the fuel average of the compact hatch. The EPA officially revealed the rating for the 2011 Fiesta, confirming the first estimates: 29 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway, when equipped with the six-speed, dual-clutch PowerShift automatic gearbox. Those who opt for the five-speed manual (the base option), will get 28 mpg in the city and 37 on the highway, still better than rivals like the Toyota Yaris or Honda Fit. Both ratings involve the 120 HP 1.6-liter inline-four cylinder unit. Expect the highly frugal 2011 Ford Fiesta to hit dealerships in the next few weeks. Man fools casino valet parking, leaves with Ferrari F430 Posted: 17 May 2010 12:27 AM PDT As yet another downside to leaving your car to valets, even at the most high end casinos or hotels, a recent blunder in Australia led to a guy driving off with a Ferrari F430 Spider which wasn’t his. Professional Australian poker player Van Marcus went out to the Crown Casino with some friends to indulge in his favorite pastime (which earned him around $1 million). He left his convertible Ferrari F430 with the casino’s valets, which parked it outside. A short time after, one Adam Ramsey walked out of the casino and told the valet he lost his redeem ticket, pointing out the Ferrari as the car he owned. The valets followed procedure (a bad one, we might add), so after completing some paperwork and paying $30, Ramsey was given the keys and drove off in the red Italian supercar, worth around $355,000, according to The Herald Sun. As you can imagine, Marcus wasn’t exactly pleased when he found out that his Ferrari was given to another guy. Luckily, the car was found six hours later, in a gas station. Ramsey was found in the vicinity by the police and will plead guilty in front of the judge. Still, this left a very angry Marcus and another word of warning: be careful when you leave your car in the hands of valets, no matter how pricey the casino or hotel might be. Video: Microsoft’s Bing mobile app gets turn-by-turn navigation Posted: 17 May 2010 12:05 AM PDT Dedicated GPS devices are soon going to become obsolete, as more and more smartphones, like the iPhone, Google Android-powered handsets or those running Microsoft’s Windows Mobile are receiving special navigation apps. We’ve already seen Google Maps running on Android devices while the iPhone already has quite a few apps that can offer great navigation, even with turn-by-turn directions. Now, Microsoft is joining the fray, as it has upgraded its Bing mobile app with the handy little feature. The team at Pocket Now tried out the new navigation system and the results are pretty good. You can even tap the screen to hear the last indication once more and, most importantly, it’s completely free. Hit the jump to see Microsoft’s Bing mobile navigation in action. Chrysler recalls 40,000 models over ignition problem Posted: 16 May 2010 11:48 PM PDT We’ve seen some pretty awkward reasons for a recall in these past few years, but after unintended acceleration or unintended braking, now we have unintended movement. It seems that the NHTSA has announced a new recall for around 40,000 Chrysler vehicles as the ignition system allows the key to be pulled out even if the car isn’t in Park. If this happens, the vehicle begins to move on its own, according to many complaints. The vehicles in question include 2010 model year versions of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, Ram, Jeep Commander and the outgoing Jeep Grand Cherokee. Owners should contact their local Chrysler dealership in order to get the cars fixed, free of charge. Source: USA Today via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Switzer GT2 R911S takes Porsche GT2 up to 911 HP Posted: 16 May 2010 11:20 PM PDT The Porsche 911 GT2 is one pretty awesome supercar. For those that wanted more, the Stuttgart carmaker recently revealed the 911 GT2 RS, which squeezes 620 HP from the 3.6-liter flat-six twin-turbo engine. But for those who can’t settle with ‘just’ 620 HP, the guys at Switzer Performance revealed the GT2 R911S tuning package that increases the output to a whopping 911 HP? The performance pedigree of this customized model is further augmented by track-tested suspension from JRZ Engineering. If you want to take it up another notch, the R911S is also available in a Carbon version, where all of the body panels are replaced with carbon fiber for a much lower center of gravity. As yet another selling point tipping the balance in favor of the Switzer model, the base R911S starts at $199,000, while the Carbon begins at $239,000. For those who forgot, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is priced at $245,000. Source: Switzer Performance Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Movie cars up for sale: KITT Ford Mustang, Hangover Mercedes and Iron Man Cobra Posted: 16 May 2010 10:58 PM PDT In case you’ve got a big stack of cash just burning a hole in your wallet, you might be interested in an upcoming auction event, set to be held on May 19th at the Indiana Fair Grounds where some pretty famous cars will be sold to the highest bidder. How famous? Among the main attractions are vehicles like the 1965 Mercedes-Benz 220SE which hauled a tiger in ‘The Hangover’, two unused Shelby Cobra bodies from the first Iron Man and, the true ‘center pieces’, two Ford Mustangs Shelby GT500KR used in the failed revival of the Knight Rider TV series. While we didn’t really love the reimagining of the cult show, we’re pretty sure many boy racers will flock to the event just to get their hands on one of these modified ‘Stangs. If you’re into more old school rides, the Chevrolet El Camino featured in the ‘My Name is Earl’ TV series is also up for sale. If bikes are more your thing, a 2011 Buell police chopper, used in ‘Terminator: Rise of the Machines’ is also set to be auctioned off. If you’ve got nothing else to do and want a car which scored some time on the TV or movie screen, then this auction event is just for you. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
