Volkswagen BlueSport reportedly cleared for production

Lately there’s been a lot of turmoil in the Volkswagen Group, as the company is rumored to make a new sportscar platform, set to be used on concepts like the Volkswagen BlueSport, Audi R4 or other such models.

After hearing that things aren’t decided about the BlueSport or R4, we are now faced with a new report, coming from AutoExpress, which says that the BlueSport has been cleared for production.

It seems that the future ‘People’s sportscar’ will boast an array of the most potent small engines currently developed by VW. First off, the twin-charged 1.4-liter unit from the Polo GTI, next the bigger turbocharged 2.0-liter from the Golf GTI, plus a standard 178 HP 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine.

For those that don’t remember, the BlueSport wowed a lot of people when it was first presented as a cheap roadster with a frugal attitude, courtesy of its TDI engine.

Take this rumor with a grain of salt people, as until Volkswagen actually confirms some of these plans, they are still just speculation.

Porsche still planning luxury crossover to slot under the Cayenne

Porsche still planning luxury crossover to slot under the Cayenne

The Porsche Cayenne (pictured above) is one of the best selling models in the whole range of the German performance automaker. That’s why a lot of voices have been claiming, for quite some time now, that a smaller SUV, a crossover called the Roxster, will appear.

Those rumors were almost always denied by Porsche, which revealed that it would just sabotage the sales of the Cayenne.

A new report has just appeared though, stating that even though the move might not make financial sense, a Porsche luxury crossover will appear. Why? Because Ferdinand Piech is pushing the project through. In case you don’t remember, the man is also responsible for models like the Bugatti Veyron or Volkswagen Phaeton, which, even though didn’t make the best business case, are still present on the market.

Besides Piech’s involvement, the rumors are still the same. The so-called Roxster will use the Audi Q5 platform, and target that same niche, with rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLK or BMW X3. Not a lot of other things are known, so we’ll just have to wait and see if it will become a reality.

Volkswagen might brings its E-Up! electric city car to the USA

Volkswagen might brings its E-Up! electric city car to the USA

Volkswagen really impressed a lot of people when it showcased its Up! city car concept. Afterwards, it followed up with the E-Up! electric version of that same concept.

While it’s already quite obvious that we shall see the diminutive concepts reach production in a few years time, what isn’t exactly clear is the markets on which they will be sold.

According to a new rumor from Automobile magazine, it seems that VW doesn’t really think the Up! is worth the trouble of shipping it over the Atlantic, to the USA. The E-Up! however, is a completely different story.

Given the growing appetite for electric vehicles, it seems that the Volkswagen E-Up! will be sold in ’select US markets’.

According to the report, a slightly larger version of the E-Up! concept will be targeted at the US market, in order to rival upcoming EVs like the Nissan Leaf or Chevrolet Volt. Those specific territories aren’t known yet, but you can bet that they will be practically the same ones where the Leaf or Volt will be launched soon enough.

GM wants 10,000 Chevrolet Volts in 2011, 30,000 in 2012

GM wants 10,000 Chevrolet Volts in 2011, 30,000 in 2012

Seeing as how we’re getting closer and closer to the launch of the Chevrolet Volt, GM has decided to reveal the production plans for the next two years.

According to Tony DiSalle, the marketing director for the Chevrolet Volt, around 10,000 models will be produced in the 2011 calendar year. After that, depending on the sales success, around 30,000 Volts will roll off the assembly line in 2012.

DiSalle also revealed some criteria for dealerships that want to sell the Volt. The establishments need to keep at least one Volt in stock, in order to show it to customers, and also have a 240-volt charging station. While such dealerships will get all the info on the Volt, other dealers around the USA will also be equipped with charging and service stations, in order to take care of a Volt, if need be.

While the Nissan Leaf electric vehicle requires customers to have home charging stations, Chevrolet won’t do such a thing, in order to increase its potential client base.

As you all remember, the Chevrolet Volt extended range electric vehicle is set to hit specific US territories at the end of the year.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport revealed, breaks world speed record with 268 mph (431 km/h)

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport revealed, breaks world speed record with 268 mph (431 km/h)

What started out as just a rumor is now official, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport high performance edition has been revealed.

The Veyron really broke the mold in terms of hypercars, and was a testament to the engineering (and funding) of both Bugatti and (especially) its parent company, Volkswagen.

Now, as a fitting end to the life cycle of the glorious model, the company has announced the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport.

What’s so great about this new Veyron edition? How about the fact that it upgrades the output of the massive 16-cylinder engine from the already famous 1,001 HP to a whopping 1,200 HP. Throw in a torque rating of 1,106 lb-ft, and you will certainly be experiencing the best of the best.

Why do we say that? In order to really demonstrate the potential of the Veyron Super Sport, Bugatti took the car on the VW test track. There, with German officials and Guiness World Record representatives, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport model achieved a new world speed record for a production model. The value achieved was 267.81 mph or 431.07 km/h.

The Veyron Super Sport, besides the increased output, also boasts other changes, in order to make it resilient to the high speed abuse it will no doubt receive in the hands of customers. As such, an optimized suspension system has been added, while the chassis was strengthened. As a special treat, the skin of the car is made completely out of carbon fiber composites, which can be decorated, at request, with a clear coat that leaves the carbon exposed.

The first five Veyron Super Sport models are part of a World Record edition, boasting the same paint scheme, black exposed carbon and orange finish. Before you reach for that wallet though, they have already been sold out. Still, you can check out the car at the upcoming Pebble Beach Concours, this August.

Until then, you can admire the new hypercar in the photo gallery below.
