Women’s Car Insurance in Europe Discussed

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 04:07 AM PST

The different insurance pricing between males and females is currently discussed in Europe so that young males to experience lower premiums compared before. The courts have already decided in September 2010 to ban gender discrimination present at the moment, but the verdict is to be announced on March 1.

The proposal related to car insurance is for equally evaluation and prices for men and women. Apparently, insurance companies are already preparing for the changes, so that the impact on profitability to be minimal.

Best Classic Cars

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 09:00 PM PST

In the past century there were a lot of great cars and some of them deserved and earned the "classic" title. In the following you will learn more about 20 of the best classic cars that rolled out of the production line. Some of them have incredible power while others featured very innovative and bold designs. One factor put them all together in the same class: they were all very fast for their period and for this reason they deserve a comfortable spot in the automotive history which keeps getting richer and richer as days pass by. Keep reading in order to find out a top 10 of the most sought-after cars in the automotive history.

At number 10 we find the exquisite Jaguar E-Type Series 1, considered by many the most beautiful car in the world. Made between 1961 and 1975, Jaguar produced 70,000 units of this model. The Series 1 was available with two choice engines, the first one was a 3.8-liter and the latter was a 4.2-liter, capable of reaching 60 mph from start in 7.1 seconds, onto a top speed of 137 mph.

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is a relatively new model but it does earn its classic car title as it is the fastest automatic transmission car in the world. Produced by a joint venture between Mercedes and McLaren, the SLR sports a SOHC V8 power unit that outputs 616 hp and needs only 3.1 seconds to do the 0-60 mph sprint.

At number 8 we find a legendary car, the Ferrari F40 with its Kevlar, aluminum and carbon fiber panels. Although it was introduced in the early 90s, it still is one of the fastest cars in the world, capable of reaching a top speed of 201 mph. It will reach 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, pretty impressive for a car that it is 20 years old car.

Another legendary car in our top is the Lamborghini Diablo with its massive 5.7-liter that outputs 492 hp. In only 4.1 seconds the car will reach 60 mph, onto a top speed of 202 mph. The Diablo is the perfect example for "car porn".

From the United States we find the Dodge Viper GTS with its two white stripes that are a trademark for this vehicle. Inspired by Shelby Cobra, the Viper is one of the most aggressive cars in the US. It is capable of reaching 60 mph in 4 seconds and has a top speed of 190 mph.

Another modern car worthy of the classic car title is the Bugatti Veyron. With its 16-cylinder engine, this monster is capable of producing 1001 hp. It will reach 60 mph in 2.46 seconds, making it the quickest car in the world. Running at full speed (253.2 mp) the fuel tank will last you only 10 minutes.

Here is a beauty, the 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L88 which was designed by Larry Shinoda and it was the third generation of the Corvette family. The car was a beast then and it still is now with its 7-litre power unit that offered 460 hp. Some third-party enthusiasts managed to get 560 hp from the same engine, pretty impressive.

The best classic cars top continues with the top 3 which is started by the shockingly beautiful Porsche Carrera GT which had a price tag of $440,000. Porsche started developing the car in the late 1990s, but rolled it out in 2004. It was produced in a limited number of only 1270 units. It had a V10 engine that offered 600 hp. Private testers did the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.6 seconds, although the manufacturer claimed that the Carrera GT will do it in 3.9 seconds.

At number two we find another iconic and legendary car, the AC Cobra 427. The car borrowed parts, pieces and accessories from other cars – like the Ford based engine, the VW Beetle steering rack and the Jaguar in-board disk brakes. Because of this car, United Kingdom had to implement new road speed limits as the AC Cobra was capable of reaching 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds.

We saved the best for last – the Ferrari 250 GTO is without any doubt the best Ferrari ever made. GTO stands for "Gran Turismo Omologata" while the "250" designation stands for the displacement of each of the car's cylinders. Introduced back in 1962, only 36 units were ever made and production ended in 1964. With its compact berlinetta design, this model is considered to be the most beautiful Ferrari ever designed. Based on the previous chassis of the 250 GT, Giotto Bizzarrini and his team were responsible for the concept car. The heart of this car was a V12 engine that offered 302 hp. It needed 6.1 seconds to reach 60 mph, pretty impressive for the early 60s.

There are other cars that could have made it into our top, but these 10 are in the opinions of many the best classic cars launched. Here are a couple of examples of cars that were very close to making the top: Ford Shelby GT500, Lotus Elise Series 2, Subaru Impreza STi, Porsche 911 (996 Series GT3), Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato and the BMW M3 GTR.

Citroen To Show Three Concepts At Geneva

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 02:30 PM PST

Citroen C3 Red Block

We are only one week away from the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show and Citroen announced that they are going to bring three concepts, based on the automaker's production models. The design studies are the C3 "Red Block", the DS4 "Purple" and the C6 "Noir et Blanc".

The French supermini C3 has bespoke matt grey paintwork with red accents on the window line and sits on 17-inch alloy rims, plus smoked headlamps and tail lamps. In addition, it features a lowered suspension and the exclusive interior trim is highlighted by the red leather seats, and the various aluminum accents located on the door panels, stee

ring wheel and the center console.

The DS4 Purple will make its debut alongside with the production model. This concept "takes inspiration from the techniques of jewellery craft."

Citroen C6 Noir et Blanc

The C6 "Noir et Blanc" is going to be a study on new colors and materials for the automaker's most expensive model.

Citroen DS4 Purple

My personal favorite is the DS4 Purple as it looks very aggressive and it has a nice interior. The C6 is perhaps the ugliest car from Citroen's current lineup and this concept doesn't really bring anything new. Probably the next-generation C6 will adopt an entire new styling as the current one isn't attractive at all. Most likely, the new one will take some of the design ideas from the DS3 and DS4 which both look very good in my opinion.

We'll be able to provide more information next week when the Geneva Motor Show starts.

You can’t make a good movie without a love story. Fast Five doesn’t lack that either. Brian and Mia will be one of the main attractions of the show and he have a picture to prove it.

Also, here is Paul Walker behind the wheel, which makes us want to drive a muscle care and brag about it.

Mazda MX-5 on Ice

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 10:30 AM PST

At the beginning of this week, Mazda opened the 2011 motorsport season on Swedish ice with their "Mazda MX-5 on Ice" event – a 4 hour race for journalists, TV fans and readers. Set to start are 20 modified racing MX-5s and the event features an extensive program with training sessions, qualifying and of course, racing.

Last year, the Japanese automaker organized the "MX-5 Open Race" which was a huge success, giving the car manufacturer enough reasons to organize the "MX-5 on Ice" this year, between 21 and 24th of this month.

The cars are piloted by teams from 26 participating nations, among them motor journalists that have racing experience, TV fans as well as readers who were lucky enough to win the tickets in special contests. Held in Are, Sweden, the event features two extensive training sessions, a qualifying session and a two-session race. The team that will drive the most laps during the four-hour race will win.

We've already told you that Brabus are going to bring two cars to this year's Geneva Motor Show, the Brabus Rocket and the Brabus SLS. They have another ace up their sleeves as they are going to present another car, based on the Smart ForTwo.

The Brabus ForTwo Ultimate will come in the same matte gray body finish, just like the aforementioned models. In addition, it will have some carbon fiber inserts plus a very nice set of machined-alloy wheels. Although we can't tell you what will happen under that tiny hood, Brabus said that the Smart Ultimate will come with a modified engine.

All three cars will be unveiled next week at the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show.
