Posted: 26 Feb 2011 05:00 AM PST Last week we've showed you the tuning program for the Ferrari California and now Novitec Rosso has revealed another upgrade program, this time for the 599 GTO. The car's huge V12 6.0-liter engine was fitted with twin superchargers, enlarged fuel injectors, a new intake manifold, big intercooler, high-flow air filters plus a new stainless steel sport exhaust system with 90 mm tailpipes. All of these added goodies allow the engine to output a remarkable 876 hp (888 PS / 653 kW) and 6363 lb.-ft (862 Nm), an increase of 215 hp (218 PS / 160 kW) and 178 lb.-ft (242 Nm) of torque. The Novitec Rosso Ferrari 599 GTO can now sprint to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and to 200 km/h in only 9.1 seconds, onto a top speed of 340 km/h (211 mph). Design-wise, they've installed lightweight rims that measure 21-inches in the front and 22-inches out in the back, wrapped around Pirelli PZero rubber, a front-axle lift up system, lowering springs and a very nice silver and yellow paint scheme that reminds us of the legendary 250 GTO that won the 1964 Tour de France. RENNtech Mercedes GLK350 Hybrid Pikes Peak Rally Car Posted: 26 Feb 2011 04:30 AM PST The engineers over at RENNtech have revealed what seems to be one of the ugliest tuning programs I've seen lately. Dubbed GLK350 Hybrid Pikes Peak Rally Car, it is based on a Mercedes GLK350 and is an updated version of one of their cars presented at the 2008 edition of the SEMA Motor Show. Just like the original model, it has an aerodynamic kit, a high-performance braking system, a custom KW coil-over suspension and massive 20-inch alloy rims wrapped around Nitto tires. In fact, the only significant change in comparison to the 2008 model is the new 3M 1080 Scotchpaint vinyl wrap in brushed steel and black carbon fiber – probably the only cool thing about the car's design. This GLK350 is equipped with a V6 3.5-liter petrol engine that got a new intake manifold, revised cylinder heads, upgraded camshafts, a RENNtech ECU and a composite air intake. The standard engine produces 268 hp (272 PS / 200 kW) and thanks to these modifications, it can output about 350 hp (355 PS / 261 kW). The "hybrid" designation relates to the fact that the car has an electric motor, offering an additional 40 lb.-ft (54 Nm) of torque. This RENNtech Mercedes GLK350 Hybrid Pikes Peak Rally one-off car is going to be exhibited at a lot of auto shows in the US and after that it will be retired to the Mercedes-Benz Vehicle Museum, located in Irvine, California. Posted: 26 Feb 2011 04:00 AM PST Our colleges from WCF have managed to grab a couple of spy shots of the 2012 Peugeot 208 which will be the successor of the current 207 model. According to the same source, the 208 prototype was on its way back from a test run in a motorcade of benchmarking models, including here the very cool DS3. These spy shots were taken just before all of the cars were loaded back onto a transporter. As you can see from these images, this has to be one of the most camouflaged cars ever, and there isn't much that we can tell you about the design of the 208, except maybe for the fact that it will have a front fascia similar to the one that we saw on the 508 model which is way more attractive in comparison to what the 207, 308 and the 407 have. In addition, the 208 might have a more upright rear hatch in comparison to the current generation model. WCF said that Peugeot was testing a 3-door and a 5-door variant of the 208 which means that at first these will be the two body styles available and later on, the French automaker will probably launch the SW model. PS: If the successor of the 207 will be the 208, what name will the successor of the 209 get? Source: WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
German Tuning For The Infiniti M30d S Posted: 26 Feb 2011 03:30 AM PST Infiniti Zentrum Hamburg, a tuning company from Germany has revealed an upgrade program for the Infiniti M30d S, the model fitted with the V6 3.0 diesel engine. The entry-level Stage 1 offers an ECU optimization that takes the power of the engine to 276 hp (280 PS / 206 kW) and 450 lb.-ft (610 Nm) of torque, up from the standard 235 hp (238 PS / 175 kW) and 406 lb.-ft (550 Nm) of torque. The price for the Stage 1 tuning program is 1250 Euros. Customers can also get a black-foil-covered roof for 400 Euros, a black radiator grille for 550 Euros, an H+R suspension lowering-kit to 25 mm for 1495 Euros, red black calipers with Infiniti lettering for 1200 Euros and painted door handles for 600 Euros. The Stage 2 to package offered for the Infiniti M30d S adds a brand new set of alloy wheel mades by Schmidt Revolution, measuring 10×22-inch in the front and 11×22-inch out in the back, covered in 265/30R22 and 295/25R22 Pirelli rubber. The price for this package is a whopping 6800 Euros – you can buy a decent car for this amount of money, plus they don't really look good on the Infiniti, too big in my opinion. The only thing that I would buy from this tuning program would be the Stage 1 tuning program. You'll have to be pretty insane to pay 600 Euros to get the door handles painted. Mercedes CLS63 AMG By Carlsson Posted: 26 Feb 2011 02:49 AM PST Carlsson will bring next week to the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show their tuning project based on the Mercedes CLS63 AMG. The new body kit includes a carbon fiber front spoiler lip, stainless steel grille inserts, a rear spoiler as well as a new rear apron that has an integrated diffuser. As you might already know, Carlsson is not one of those tuning companies that install big air vents, aggressive rear wings and so on and this is the case with this CLS63 AMG. Of course, some significant changes have been done under the car's bonnet as the engine produces now 82 hp more power in comparison to the standard unit, rounding up the power output to 600 hp (441 kW). They didn't say how long will it take to do the 0-60 mph sprint, but if we look at the 4.4 seconds necessary for the standard model, the Carlsson should do it in about 4.2 or so. On the outside you won't see any noticeable difference, except for those oval tail pipes and the white fine on the rear diffuser. More noticeable changes you will find inside the cabin where they used Nappa leather, carbon fiber, Alcantara, root wood and other natural materials. They've removed the standard suspension of the CLS63 AMG and installed a C-Tronic SUSPENSION that can adjust itself every 150 milliseconds, and lowers the car by 30 mm. This tuning kit can also be installed on the 2011 CLS350 CDI, except for the power of course. However, the engineers can fit the car with a C-Tronic DIESEL POWER control unit that can boost the output of the engine to 265 hp (195 kW), good enough for a 0-60 mph sprint in 5.9 seconds, while at the same time respecting the EURO5 exhaust emission standards. Posted: 25 Feb 2011 09:00 AM PST Our colleges from WCF managed to take a couple of spy shots of the 2012 Mercedes GL-Class, a model that will be built on a stretched variant of the next-gen ML-Class platform. The car was spied during some cold-weather testing in northern Europe. As you can see from these pictures, the grille of the new GL looks a little bit like the one we can see on the E-Class and the facelifted R-Class. The headlights have now a LED daytimer strip, not very attractive in my opinion. Most likely, the 2012 GL will be available with a V6 3.0-liter and a V8 4.0-liter engine, both diesels. As far as the petrol engines are concerned, the SUV will be fitted with either a V6 3.5-liter or a more powerful V8 5.5-liter. All of the engines will probably be mated to the automaker's 7G-Tronic 7-speed gearbox. The next-gen GL-Class will probably make its official debut later on this year. Posted: 25 Feb 2011 08:13 AM PST For those who haven't seen the following video this may come as quite a shock. Vin Diesel's childhood didn’t involve driving fast and furios (cars) and having a sexy voice. Mark Vincent was an ordinary neighbourhood boy who used to brakedance. An easy world wide web search showed us a couple of videos of an younger Vin Diesel version feelin' the beat and teaching the masses how to breakdance. Back then, adidas didn't have to pay for Mark to wear the three stripes logo and the scenes weren't about making him look tough, strong and sexy. Use this as proof that everybody starts from scratch and realize that initiative gets you, some point in time, to the place you want to be. Enough chat. Fast Five is around the corner, meanwhile bring some popcorn and check out Vin Diesel in a way you haven't seen him before. Click here to view the embedded video. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
FBI Is Being Sued For Crashing A Ferrari F50 Posted: 25 Feb 2011 08:00 AM PST Here is something that you don't hear every day, someone is suing FBI. Let's take things from the beginning. According to Detroit News, the car was reported stolen from a dealership in Rosemont, Pennsylvania back in 2003 and the dealer made an insurance claim for the sum of $750,000 at that time. Motors Insurance Corp., based in Michigan, shelled out the entire amount of money and in August '08, the Federal Bureau of Investigation recovered the Ferrari F50 in Kentucky. At that time, the FBI stored the supercar while waiting to prosecute the thief. However, someone at the bureau decided to take the F50 for a spin and managed to lose control of the car and became better acquainted with a tree. This happened in May 2009, and the aforementioned Motors Insurance Corp filed a claim to both the FBI and the United States Department of Justice for the entire amount of money. As you might have expected, both of the parties rejected the claim under the pretense that the F50 was being retained by the feds at the time of the incident. After that, the insurance firm set about submitting Freedom of Information Act request for documents pertaining to the storage, transportation and handling of the Ferrari. And guess what? Most of them were denied under federal exemptions or they were simply ignored. Quite a shocker, right? However, they received an e-mail that said that J. Hamilton Thompson, U.S. Assistant Attorney, rode with Frederick C. Kingston, Special Agent, on the day of the unfortunate accident and that the Ferrari F50 fishtailed and slid sideways very soon after it rolled off the FBI's storage warehouse. The insurance company is now suing both FBI and the US Department of Justice to release the remaining documents pertaining to the car. My guess is that they will never get the money back. Letterman jokes about the Nissan Juke Posted: 25 Feb 2011 06:00 AM PST We can’t ever get enough of making fun of the ugliest, worst, most terrible cars out there. The Nissan Juke proudly enters this category. So Letterman can’t help bu joke and joke about the Juke until the audience laughs to tears. He makes fun of its name, of its looks and he clearly understands that it is wrong for Nissan to give birth to such an ugly baby and then leave it to roam the streets. And then he goes about to making more fun of Nissan, this time having the Leaf in mind. Enjoy! Click here to view the embedded video. Via Autoblog. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
