Made of aluminium, the double-joint spring-strut front axle saves about 30 per cent weight compared to a similar axle made of steel. This reduces the front axle load in the interest of precise and agile driving behaviour.
The reason for this is the front axle subframe, with its extreme diagonal stiffness, which carries other components such as the steering transmission, track control arms and push bars, as well as the anti-roll bar.
