4,000th Lamborghini Murcielago goes to China Posted: 15 Feb 2010 04:21 AM PST It’s a bit hard to believe, but Lamborghini has just announced that it has manufactured the 4,000th Murcielago supercar model, which is a pretty impressive feat, considering the car it replaced, the Diablo, saw just 2,900 models across a 11-year period. The 4,000th car is a special edition LP670-4 SuperVeloce, one of just 350 models, and will be sent to the Lambo dealership in Hangzhou, China. Normal production will then be resumed on the LP640-4, but reports are coming in that the “stock” figures of the car will be updated once more. Considering we still have at least 2 years till the replacement of the Murc appears, the number of such cars on the streets of the world will no doubt increase. Let’s hope that we won’t see any of them in any crashes anytime soon. Source: Lamborghini Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Nissan presents new 2010 Patrol SUV Posted: 15 Feb 2010 02:12 AM PST Nissan has just revealed, at least in the United Arab Emirates, the 2010 generation of its popular full-sized SUV, the Patrol. The new models aims at taking the fight to the Toyota Land Cruiser, partly with the revised looks, sporting a more luxurious design rather than the utilitarian style of the previous one, and with a new, more powerful engines. The unit in question is a direct injection 5.6-liter V8 engine, which generates 400 HP and 405 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox, that uses a new electronically-controlled four-wheel drive system, which has four selectable modes: pavement, sand, rock and snow. Other new technological systems used in this generation of the Patrol are things like four-wheel independent suspension, hydraulic body roll motion as well as hill start and hill descent assist. On the inside, the cabin is much roomier, offering 4 more inches of legroom to back seat passengers and even a third row of seats if you need to use them. High end inserts like aluminum and wood are available, as well as leather trims. You might see the new Nissan Patrol at the Geneva Motor Show while US customers will see it under the Infiniti badge as the new QX56 at the New York Auto Show in April. Until then, enjoy the photo gallery below. Photo Gallery: 2010 Nissan Patrol Source: Nissan Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Toyota recalls 8,000 2010 Tacoma 4WD pick-up trucks over faulty driveshaft concerns Posted: 15 Feb 2010 01:26 AM PST Toyota isn’t catching any breaks these days, as not only did it issue two of its biggest recalls in history (which paled in comparison to other recalls) over unintended acceleration problems, but now it is calling back around 8,000 Tacoma four-wheel drive pick-up trucks over concerns regarding the driveshaft. It seems that the shaft, which connects the engine to the rear wheels and is manufactured by Dana Holding, can crack under pressure and even fall off completely, causing loss of handling and resulting in a crash. No incidents were reported, and Toyota insists that many of the models in question, manufactured between December and February, are still in dealerships. The driveshafts in question are also supplied to Ford and Nissan for use in models from under Lincoln, Mercury or Infiniti brands, but the two companies revealed that their quality tests revealed no problems whatsoever. Either way, if you purchased a four-wheel drive Tacoma (front-wheel drive models aren’t affected by this possible defect), you should check with your dealer. Volkswagen talks about Amarok SUV, USA launch of new pick-up Posted: 15 Feb 2010 01:01 AM PST As you all know, Volkswagen has recently begun launching its brand new pick-up truck, the Amarok in South America, and will import it from the Pacheco, Argentina plant in Europe. The German company has now talked about the few rumors which peg that an Amarok SUV might soon appear. Its financial boss Klaus-Dieter Schurmann, revealed that between the Touareg and Tiguan from VW, the Q7 and Q5 from Audi and the Porsche Cayenne, the market will only become saturated with the addition of the Amarok in SUV form. He also talked about the possible launch of the pick-up in one of the biggest markets for such a vehicle, the USA. He revealed that the Pacheco plant might not cope with the global demand of the car, let alone the US one, and that it still needs to fully develop its dealership network, so that people can order it from somewhere close to their home. Videos: Lotus Formula 1 team presents T127 race car Posted: 15 Feb 2010 12:38 AM PST The Lotus name is coming back to Formula 1 and aims at reviving the great performances recorded by the original team back in the golden age of the prestigious motorsport competition. Even though it isn’t actually affiliated with the Lotus carmaker, the new team has already proved that it wants to respect the brand, and, in just five months, has produced an all-new race car, dubbed the T127. The short amount of time, according to executives, means that the car is a bit on the heavy side, but the main goal in the first season of F1 for the team is to gather experience, in order to make the 2011 model a more competitive one. Driving for the team will be veteran drivers Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen, but the most important thing about the team, at least for UK fans, is that it will bring back the iconic British racing green and yellow livery, which made the original Lotus F1 cars such popular models. Hit the jump to see a video of how the London launch of the T127 race model has faired, and its first shakedown session at the Silverstone circuit. The first round of official tests for the Lotus F1 team will take place this week at the Jerez track. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Maserati Quattroporte gets the hearse treatment Posted: 15 Feb 2010 12:11 AM PST As long as cars that will change their looks depending on how we feel or what we want are still located a long way into the future, there will always be people who modify current models either to increase their performance or uncover a new side of their personality. But it seems that one coachbuilder, Intercar Modena, took things a bit too seriously, or more like morbidly, and transformed a beautiful Maserati Quattroporte into a hearse. Yeah, a hearse as in taking your remains to the cemetery in the purest Italian style. I’m not so sure many of us will be seeing such things on the road, especially since it costs €250,000 (around $340,350) but the idea of the project is one of the most original ones we’ve seen so far. 2010 Opel Corsa receives upgraded engine lineup Posted: 14 Feb 2010 11:47 PM PST Opel decided to to refresh its best selling Corsa model, which accounts for around 30% of its sales, and released the new 2010 model. You won’t find any major visual enhancements, as the biggest changes included in this upgrade are found beneath the hood, with a wide array of upgraded engines, which produce more power with an improved fuel average and lowered emissions. From the entry-level 1.0-liter gasoline to the top-of-the-range turbocharged 1.6-liter, all have received new management systems, as well as a host of other upgrades. The most frugal consumers will be happy to hear that with the EcoFlex 1.3-liter CDTI you can get just 3.7 liters/100 km (63.5 mpg) with 98 g/km of CO2 being emitted. Enhancements were also made to the chassis, suspension and steering, all to provide a better ride quality for the standard trim lines, while the Sport edition has received a few key upgrades from Opel’s OPC performance edition. Abarth to bring upgraded Fiat 500 Convertible and Punto Evo to Geneva Posted: 14 Feb 2010 11:27 PM PST The Geneva Motor Show will be a host to quite a lot of powerful models, among which you can count two more pocket rockets, coming from Fiat’s performance division, Abarth. After modifying the extremely popular Fiat 500, and getting even more fans for the small Italian coupe, according to some reports Abarth is preparing to unveiled an upgraded take on the 500C edition, which boasts a convertible canvas top. No official details were given, but you can expect to see a much more aggressive model, with the turbocharged 1.4-liter that is included in the regular Abarth 500 (pictured above). There are also some good news for Fiat Punto Evo fans, as the slightly larger hatchback will also see an Abarth performance edition, which might bring the new 1.4-liter MultiAir turbocharged unit, good for around 170 HP, under its hood, as well as a few more enhancements. Overall, if you have a fancy for small Italian performance models, you’ll need to get to Geneva at the beginning of March. No word yet if the Abarth 500 Convertible will also reach US shores alongside its coupe variant, but if it will be successful, it’s a big possibility. Onyx reveals tuned Bentley Continental Platinum GTO Posted: 14 Feb 2010 11:10 PM PST The Bentley Continental GT is a pretty powerful luxury sportscar, but considering it houses a massive W12 engine under its hood but develops “just” 533 HP, the tuning company Onyx had a go at taking its output to proper supercar levels. As such, it has revealed the Continental Platinum GTO, which includes not only the visual makeover you can see above and below, but also a wide array of performance modifications, that take the power ratings from the aforementioned 533 to around 640 HP. No concrete details about the changes were given, but you can still enjoy that power with mods like a lowered ride height, 22-inch wheels coated with a matte black paint job, as well as a body kit with a new, LED daytime lights-enabled front bumper, side skirts, wider wheel arches, carbon fiber splitter, trunk lid spoiler and, par for the course, a rear diffuser. For those who can’t wait to customize their Continental GT (honestly, who doesn’t?) the tuning package will be available starting next month. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
