Video: Camaro owner tries to do a burnout, wrecks car Posted: 22 Feb 2010 04:29 AM PST Trying to do a burnout is something many car owners have attempted, with some varying degrees of success (look at this guy), but you would think that the owner of a third-generation Chevrolet Camaro would know a thing or two about doing burnouts, especially since he entered a special competition. Well you’d be pretty wrong, at least from what this guy proved in the video below. It seems he had no idea what he was doing, what tires he had on the wheels or how to properly push a RWD Camaro to achieve a burnout. The result is pretty staggering to say the least. Hit the jump to see this epic Camaro burnout fail. Source: Bangshift via Ridelust Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Mercedes-Benz F800 Style concept previews future CLS Posted: 22 Feb 2010 01:43 AM PST Mercedes-Benz has just presented a new concept car, which was teased at the Detroit Auto Show at the beginning of the year. The Mercedes-Benz F800 Style, as you can see above, most likely previews the future CLS Class, which not only will include the four-door coupe, but also a smaller edition. While classic concept elements, like the sliding rear doors or the futuristic interior are present, MB revealed that most of the styling will make it onto a production version. But while its looks are quite impressive, its powertrain options are even more so, including not only a plug-in hybrid but also a fuel cell setup. The first is similar to the V6 light hybrid setup we can check out on the Mercedes Benz S400, and will provide a power output of 400 HP and an electric-only range of 18 miles. The other setup, based on a fuel cell/electric drivetrain, uses a 136 HP electric motor to power the car, but is unlikely to become a viable option anytime soon. Besides the radical design and the powertrain options, the F800 Style also has two high end safety technologies. The Distronic Plus Traffic Jam Assistant is an upgraded cruise control system, capable of steering the car at speeds under 25 mph. The other is the Pre-Safe 360-degree technology, which also adds the existing Pre-Safe tech to the rear end of the car. It will now be able to detect when a rear end collision might happen and will apply the brakes, so that you won’t get pushed into the car ahead of you in a chain reaction. Overall, the new Mercedes-Benz F800 Style is looking extremely good. MB fans will be able to check it out in its concept flesh at the Geneva Motor Show, but also in the photo gallery below. BMW X6 Performance package coming to Geneva Posted: 22 Feb 2010 12:33 AM PST I’m sure most car fans, when looking at the BMW X6, wouldn’t consider a sports package the likeliest addition to the model. BMW, though, is quite confident in the Sports Activity Coupe, and revealed that a Performance accessories package will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March. First off, the offer is available only for the gasoline-powered X6 models, specifically the xDrive30i and the xDrive50i. The 30i gets an increase in 20 HP and 37 lb-ft of torque, reaching a total 326 HP and 332 lb-ft. The V8 50i gets a more substantial increase by 41 HP and 37 lb-ft, to reach 448 HP and 479 lb-ft of total torque. Besides these performance upgrades, customers will also be able to order some exclusive aerodynamic accessories for their big Bavarian brute. These include a revised front and rear bumper, side sills, rear spoiler, matte black rear fins and a black front grid. They will also benefit from a set of 21-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in performance tires. For the inside, customers will be able to choose a flat-bottom steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara. The BMW X6 Performance package is set to be revealed in Geneva, and will be available at dealerships most likely this summer. Source: BMW Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Kia teases new Magentis / Optima sedan before New York reveal Posted: 22 Feb 2010 12:10 AM PST Kia is continuing its teasing campaigns and released new sketches of the upcoming Magentis sedan, which will be revealed at the New York Auto Show this April under the Optima name, as it is known in the USA. The new car, most likely based off of the Hyundai Sonata, is set to feature a longer wheelbase than the current Optima and will embody “a bold, athletic and sporty visual energy.” This is also one the biggest projects that Kia’s new chief designer Peter Schreyer has worked on. The style of the new car is set to be followed by other future Kia models, which will borrow various elements from it. Expect the new Kia Optima in the USA this fall, while the Magentis will probably appear in Europe in early 2011. Source: Kia Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Chevrolet Cruze sells 100,000 units, Obama calls it “Car of the Future” Posted: 21 Feb 2010 11:47 PM PST Chevrolet has just announced that its new Cruze model has managed to sell over 100,000 units in the 60 countries where it was launched up until now. This is great news, as Chevy is getting ready to reveal the average-priced sedan in its native USA during the third quarter of 2010. The new car also got a very important endorsement from none other than the President of the USA, Barrack Obama, which called it the “Car of the Future”. He was so pleased, he even autographed it, as you can see above.
The Cruze is a part of Chevrolet’s new global offensive of new cars, specifically design for a larger market, not only its native USA. It will also play a big role in GM’s goal of selling over 1 million Chevrolet units in Europe by 2015. Source: EGMCarTech Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Infiniti reveals its first 235 HP 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine Posted: 21 Feb 2010 11:08 PM PST Nissan is bent on making its luxury Infiniti brand more popular in Europe. After offering some high end limited editions of the FX SUV, the Japanese brand will soon add its first diesel engine in specific models for the European market. The unit in question, a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6, has been developed in partnership with its parent company Nissan and its partner Renault in France. Capable of 235 HP and, according to Infiniti, class-leading 405 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque, the new unit promises to combine power with efficiency. Set to premiere on the current FX SUV and the EX crossover, the oil-burner will also be available when the M sedan launched in the Old Continent, alongside the regular petrol engine. All of these versions will receive the 30d moniker. With promise of adequate amount of power and average fuel consumption figures of 28 mpg for the smaller EX and 26 mpg for the larger FX, the new diesel engine from Infiniti might be a winner in Europe. North Americans finally get 550 HP Volkswagen Scirocco for $150,000 Posted: 21 Feb 2010 10:44 PM PST Judging by the title, you’d think that Volkswagen finally decided to bring its much lauded Scirocco hatchback model to North America, but added a *slight* increase in destination charges, but also one in power. That’s not quite right. It seems Canadian tuners HPA have a deal with VW to import a few Scirocco models every year, and modify them extensively. The result of these modifications is the FT565, or in simpler terms, a VW Scirocco capable of 550 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque. How did HPA achieve such a thing? Well they took the stock Scirocco and added a new 3.2-liter V6 engine, complete with two Garrett H25 turbochargers, and also threw in all-wheel drive, a feature not even the most powerful stock Scirocco has. There’s also a stage two tuning kit, which takes the torque to 600 lb-ft. This means a 0 to 62 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 200 mph. And yes, it’s still a Volkswagen hatchback! Sadly though, you’re going to have to pay much more than the stock price of any regular Scirocco, around $150,000, but you’ll also be getting things like a braking system with 14-inch, eight-piston calipers, as well as 19-inch aluminum BBS wheels wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires. In case you’ve gotten tired of waiting for VW to bring its aggressive hatchback to North America, then Canada is the only way to go. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

VATH reveals V50S based on Mercedes-Benz E500 Coupe Posted: 21 Feb 2010 10:27 PM PST After tuning the Mercedes-Benz E Class E63 AMG performance model, the team at VÄTH Automobiltechnik have tried their hands on the most powerful model in the regular lineup of the E Class Coupe, the E500. The result of said tinkering? An increase in power of 46 HP, to a total of 429 HP and a torque rating of 424 lb-ft (575 Nm). This was achieved thanks to an optimized ECU, and the addition of a new sports air filter and exhaust system. Customers will also be able to order a set of 20-inch three-piece Smiths wheels, coming with adjustable suspension and shock absorbers, as well as a new braking system with six-piston calipers. The exterior has also been redesigned with a new front fascia, decklid spoiler, and a carbon fiber rear diffuser. For the inside, VATH has prepared custom leather and carbon trim.
