Porsche to reveal Panamera V6 and Panamera 4 in Beijing Posted: 17 Feb 2010 03:06 AM PST Porsche is betting big on its Panamera sedan model, a car which has been met with mixed feelings since it was revealed. Up until now customers were able to order either the S or the Turbo editions, both having the big V8 engine which sent power to the rear wheels. Now though, Porsche revealed that it will present the base Panamera, which will be powered by an all new 300 HP 3.6-liter V6 engine, capable of 295 lb-ft of torque. The smaller engine not only will it allow the super sedan to be more efficient, as German outlets are pegging a fuel consumption of 25.3 mpg (US), but also cheaper, with a price tag of $74,400. This model will sport the six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but customers can opt for the ZF seven-speed PDK dual clutch one. The other big news, one more than welcomed by Panamera owners stuck in the snow this winter, is the introduction of the Panamera 4 all-wheel drive model, which will see the power of the available engines sent to all four wheels. It will be available for two editions (regular and S), and will start from $78,900. The Panamera 4 will also come standard with a ZF seven-speed PDK gearbox. 2011 Lotus Elise gets Evora-inspired facelift, new 134 HP 1.6-liter engine Posted: 17 Feb 2010 01:14 AM PST Lotus has just revealed the 2011 facelift that its popular Elise model will receive. Set to premiere at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, the new model also boasts, besides the upgraded visuals, a new 134 HP Toyota-sourced 1.6-liter engine. First off, as you can see above, the 2011 Lotus Elise borrows heavily, at least in the front end, elements from the Evora model. This isn’t because of cost cutting, as the restyle allows a 4% drop in the drag coefficient, which means a lot for Lotus. Customers will still be able to choose between the regular 1.8-liter engine, which puts out 192 when normally aspirated and 217 when supercharged, but a new 1.6-liter unit will also be available, which generates 134 HP and 118 lb-ft of torque. Coupled with the low weight of the 2011 Elise, and the 0 to 62 mph time will be around six seconds. Other features like LED daytime running lights or cruise control, alongside new wheels options are also included in the facelifted 2011 Lotus Elise. Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept by Bertone leaks before its Geneva debut Posted: 17 Feb 2010 12:29 AM PST Alfa Romeo is searching for new design ideas for its 159 replacement model. As such, it has tasked three of Italy’s best studios, Stile Bertone, Pininfarina and Italdesign Giugiaro, with developing their own takes on what the various body styles of the new car should look like. All of the models will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show, but it looks like Bertone was a bit sloppy with its concept pictures, as they were leaked before the Geneva convention opens its doors at the beginning of March. As such, we can see the Pandion Concept, named after a sort of mythical animal. The car is similar to a coupe body style, with a long front end, and sports even transparent door panels. The front fascia is much more aggressive, but still incorporates the classic Alfa Romeo grille. What do you think about this futuristic design? Share your thoughts in the comment section below. Mercedes GP can fight for Formula 1 championship, Schumacher says Posted: 16 Feb 2010 11:48 PM PST Michael Schumacher’s return is surely one of the biggest events during this season of Formula 1, even though the races have yet to begin. The German driver has just finished the Jerez testing sessions on the eight overall spot, and says that the Mercedes GP race car is extremely good and that it will definitely put his team in the race for the championship title. In terms of his own performance, Schumacher is quite excited, but still says that without a benchmark to gauge his performance, it is too early to tell how he will perform in the actual races.
The first race of the season will take place in Bahrain on March 14, until then there are still quite a few organized test sessions in which all teams can participate in order to further tweak the race cars and to prepare the drivers. Source: Autocar Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Maybach Exelero-themed Rolls Royce bespoke DC Design project for sale Posted: 16 Feb 2010 11:33 PM PST I’m sure most of you are already familiar with the Indian designer Dilip Chhabria, the head of DC Design, a company which tried its hand at tuning even the Tata Nano low cost model, and jacked up its price 100 times. Now, his work is once again on display, and in case you’re a Rolls Royce fan, you should really avert your eyes. What you can see above is codenamed the Black Ruby, and was custom made for a maharajah, who didn’t really like it (who can blame him?). As such, this odd cross between a Rolls Royce Phantom and a Maybach Exelero, complete with Ferrari Enzo doors, is up for sale at a London-based company. The price you ask? Just £750,000 or around $1,17 million. Source: Sparkscars via CarScoop Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Ford establishing single management for RS and SVT performance divisions Posted: 16 Feb 2010 11:17 PM PST In case you wanted a performance edition of a Ford model, you either had to find the SVT (Special Vehicle Team) badge on it, in case you were shopping in North America, or the RS badge, if you were buying something in Europe. Each of these territories had different performance goals, and different models which weren’t available in the other continent. But Ford is aiming to rectify that, and is going forward with its “One Ford” strategy. How does it do that you ask? Well the Blue Oval has named Jost Capito, the leader of the Europea RS division, as the head of SVT, and his first goal is to establish global performance parameters for future performance Ford models, like the 2011 Focus. Don’t go thinking that the brands will disappear, as they popularity won’t allow for such a thing. But Capito hopes that engineers from the two departments under his lead will be able to work together, and ensure that new performance models from Ford will go through as few changes as possible when appearing in other continents and markets. Rolls Royce reveals special Phantom Yas Eagle edition for Abu Dhabi Posted: 16 Feb 2010 10:52 PM PST Rolls Royce may not be doing so well in terms of sales due to the recession, but the company still knows where its many customers are. As such, it has presented a special edition of its Phantom model, entitled Yas Eagle, specifically for Abu Dhabi in the Middle East. Designed to celebrate the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Formula 1 race, on the Yas Marina circuit, the special Rolls Royce has some very … distinctive features, to say the least. First off, it’s available for all body styles: sedan, coupe and drophead (aka convertible) coupe, all of which sport a special two-tone paint job with white and cobalt blue. The interior switches things up, by combining blue and red leather (the latter color you will find on the top of the Drophead), adding blue-stained ash veneers, white instrument dials or blue carpets. Other features which will make your Arab friends jealous will be a checkerboard stripe which goes across the whole dashboard and even an illuminated hood ornament (classy!). In the end, if you’ve got money to spend, Rolls Royce will gladly take it and give whatever you want for it. Source: Automotive Design Corner via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
