Aston Martin Rapide unveiled, lookout Panamera!

Supercars usually have two-doors, leading many who can’t afford them to call their drivers selfish, for not sharing the ride with more people at the same time. Thankfully for them, the newest trend in between supercar makers is to create super-sedans, capable of transporting a family of four wherever they want, with speed and in style.

The most hyped out of these Grand Tourers is the Porsche Panamera, which sparked some very biased feedback from auto enthusiasts. Now, UK manufacturer Aston Martin decided to build its own four-door super-sedan, in the form of the Rapide, which was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show today.

After much debate and many rumors, the Rapide has manifested into a production-ready model, with some very impressive performance figures. Powered by a 6-liter V12 engine, build by hand, it will offer 470 HP, available at 6000 rpm, with a torque of 600 Nm (440 lb-ft), available at 5000 rpm. This big engine is coupled to a Touctronic 2 automatic gearbox, with six speeds and flappy magnesium paddles in order to manually change gears if you want.

The Aston Martin Rapide offers plenty of boot space, almost 301 liters, which can get even bigger if you press a button in order to fold down the rear seats, thus attaining 750 liters of space. All of the passengers will be pampered by fine materials, hand-sown leather, individual A/C systems, DVD screens in the back of the front seats and, as a tradition, a Bang & Olufsen sound system.

These are all of the details revealed up until now, but be sure that we will keep you up to date as soon as the UK manufacturer reveals the launch date and the price.

Special edition Range Rover Sport will appear in Frankfurt

We’re effectively flooded with a wide range of SUVs everyday now, as almost each company wants to launch a model on that specific segment of the market. But if you must buy one SUV, a lot of people recommend the Range Rover Sport, both due to its prestige and heritage but also to the great built quality and sporty design.

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, the UK-based company will reveal a new special edition of the Range Rover Sport, called Autobiography, which will include a lot of high end options, including a more aggressive bodykit, with revamped front and rear bumpers, side skirts and a different finish on the grille and air vents on the side. On the inside, a two-tone premium leather interior will be offered in order to truly pamper its inhabitants.

This limited edition will be available for purchase with the normal and supercharged versions of the 3.6 liter TDV8 engine. Keep in mind that although sales will start from January, 2010, only 500 units will be made. The price, as well as other details will be revealed at this week’s show in Frankfurt, alongside other exclusive options, like electronically-controlled reclining rear seats and airline-style winged head restraints for all of the Range Rover models.

New photos and details of the VW Golf R unveiled, coming late 2009

As you might have seen last week on the site, Volkswagen is preparing to unleash the monster which will be the mark VI Golf R at the Frankfurt Motor Show. We’ve speculated a bit on the technical details and the looks of the car, but just before the curtain is unveiled on the show floor, we received the first official pics and details on the new Golf R, which will be the most powerful model of the current generation.

Borrowing a lot from the VW Scirocco R, the new R edition of the Golf will be powered by a 2 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, as opposed to the previous generation’s R32, which had a 3.2 liter V6. This new top-of-the-range model will develop 270 HP with 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. But as a major difference from the Scirocco R, the Golf will be fitted with a new hydraulic four-wheel drive system, borrowed from the Audi S3.

The inside of the VW Golf R

This massive engine will be connected to a six-speed DSG gearbox, in classic VW style, which, unofficially, seems to be even faster than a manual transmission, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds, as opposed to the manual’s 5.7 time. The speed is limited to 250 km/h or 155 mph, but is still quite faster than the R32 of the previous generation.

With such a powerful engine and the performance gearbox, you can be sure that the team at VW also fitted the chassis with a lowered but more powerful suspension, and also tinkered with the braking system in order to safely handle all of the power of the car.

On the exterior, you will find a lot of similarities with the Scirocco R in terms of overall look, as the front and rear bumpers, side skirts and even darkened head and tail lights were borrowed from the coupe cousin of the Golf R. Speaking of bodies, the new range-topping Golf will be available in both three- and five-door designs. These will also feature the characteristic twin exhausts in the center of the rear diffuser, as well as the five-spoke alloy wheels. On the inside, the Golf R will be given a racing feel by a pair of bucket seats in the front, a racing steering wheel and a more aggressive trim line.

The rear of the VW Golf R

Overall, this will definitely be the Golf to own for enthusiasts. Look forward to the car launching in Europe at the end of 2009, with a US-bound one coming next year.

Here are the terms and conditions of GM’s 60-day money back guarantee

Here are the terms and conditions of GM's 60-day money back guarantee

General Motors fans from the United States were pretty surprised to hear about the upcoming 60-day money back guarantee promotion the automaker will deploy in order to gain a boost in sales. Effectively taking any Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac on a 60-day test drive is a very attractive offer and many are interested in the deal.

While the company offered very few details on how exactly the contract between the buyer and the dealer will be signed, now, courtesy of Jalopnik, we can check out a draft of said contract. Besides offering the legal basis for the purchase, it is also filled with quite a lot of restrictions in terms of the actual deal. From buying a 2009 or 2010 model to paying in cash, up front, there are many things to consider.

Here are the main requirements, with the first, second and third pages of the contract, available, in full resolution.

• The Eligible Vehicle must be a new 2009 or 2010 model.
• You have purchased an Eligible Vehicle and taken Delivery between September 14, 2009 and November 30, 2009.
• You must be able to deliver to the Participating Dealership a clean and unencumbered title to the Eligible Vehicle, which title has remained in Your name since the Delivery Date of the Eligible Vehicle.
• You must be an individual natural person who is the title owner of the Eligible Vehicle. Businesses,
corporations and partnerships do not qualify.
• Your Eligible Vehicle’s odometer must not have more than 4,000 miles since the Delivery Date.
• Your Eligible Vehicle must have been registered and insured in the Buyer’s name since the Delivery Date.
Your Eligible Vehicle must have no more than $200 of damage as determined by GM or GM’s agent.. Such
damage may include, without limitation, internal or external scratches, scrapes, dents, odors, rips, burns, etc.
• Your Eligible Vehicle may not be leased.
• Your Eligible Vehicle must have been returned to a Participating Dealership where You purchased it, in the same working order as it was on the Delivery Date.
• Your Eligible Vehicle must not have incurred damage or non-warranted repairs in excess of $200, regardless of whether such damage has been repaired.
• Your Eligible Vehicle must not have been subject to any liens or other security interests other than a lien for the original financing used to purchase the Eligible Vehicle.
• A minimum of thirty (30) days must have passed since the Delivery Date of Your Eligible Vehicle.
• Only one Eligible Vehicle may be returned per household.
• Your Eligible Vehicle must pass a purchase inspection conducted by GM or GM’s agent.

Some pretty hefty conditions, but if you really want to take GM up on its offer, you need to act fast, while the cars are still in stock at dealers around the United States.

This is the Seat IBZ Concept, the preview of the 2010 Seat Ibiza Sport Tourer

The Frankfurt Motor Show will be host to many new models and many new concepts which will preview models that will appear in the next few years. A very special one will be the new IBZ Concept from Seat, which, as we reported last week, will preview the 2010 Seat Ibiza Sport Tourer model.

Filled with cutting edge technology like LED head and tail lamps, aggresive 19-inch alloy wheels which go great with all of the swooping lines and sporty feel, as well as a very spacious futuristic interior, the concept is looking extremely cool.

The inside of the Seat IBZ Concept

Sadly though, it’s very probable that only a few things will actually make it to a production-ready model and most of them will be rather expensive extras, like the panoramic glass roof. But be sure that the large boot space will make that transition, as Seat will want to make a lasting impression on the family hatchback market with the Sport Tourer. With folding rear seats and a hidden compartment under the normal boot, you will definitely have plenty of space to fill with various things.

Broader rear doors are also included in this concept, allowing it to measure 4.22 meters in length but retain the same measurements in width and height as the normal Ibiza, which is currently available in three-door form, the Sport Coupe, and five-door version.

New 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander Facelift revealed, heavy Lancer influence

New 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander Facelift revealed, heavy Lancer influence

We have certainly been talking a lot about the Frankfurt Motor Show, but manufacturers aren’t focused solely on that exhibition. The latest example is Mitsubishi, which has recently revealed its new Outlander 2010 facelift in China.

Courtesy of Auto.sohu we can marvel at the first pictures of this new SUV, which takes borrows many design lines from the Outlander GT Prototype, which was revealed at the New York Motor Show. Also, you can’t help to notice the new front end, which is almost the same as the one on the Lancer flagship model, which was also outfitted to the new Colt city car recently.

The back of the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander Facelift

Besides the remodeled front end, there isn’t a lot of other things which stand out, besides the newer side mirrors, fenders and hood, which seems to categorize this facelift as a purely cosmetic one. Hopefully we might see the Japanese car maker present something in Frankfurt, perhaps the European edition of the SUV, but nothing is for sure.

Brabus set to reveal the E V12: 800 HP Mercedes E Class in Frankfurt

Brabus set to reveal the E V12: 800 HP Mercedes E Class in Frankfurt

The new Mercedes-Benz E Class is quite a looker, having strayed away from the classic MB traditional and offered a more aggressive design. But when it comes to models from the German manufacturer, you can be sure that the tuning team at Brabus believes an improvement can be made. That is why the company will present the Brabus E V12 at this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show, a heavily modified version of the W 212 version of ther E Class, which will be powered, as the name implies, by the massive 6.3 liter V12 engine, assisted by two turbos, which will deliver 800 HP and 1,100 Nm of torque.

With the new engine, the car will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h or 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, and to a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). But even though it is a truly epic engine, the fuel average isn’t through the roof, as you would expect: the Brabus E V12 averages 15.7 liters/100 km (15 mpg). Also, its CO2 emissions are around 372 g/km.

The inside of the Brabus E V12

Don’t think that the tuning crew just swapped the engine, as new sport suspensions have also been fitted, with new stabilizers, a performance brake system and 19 inch alloy wheels, all to satisfy the brand new motor. On the outside, a revamped front spoiler, new side panels, revamped side skirts and an interesting aerodynamic shield on the rear wheels carefully paint the aggressive lines of the model. Inside the team outfitted it with black Alcantara leather and carbon fiber inserts.
The back of the Brabus E V12

In case this version really caught your attention, you’d better have 600,000 euros available and a ticket to the Frankfurt Motor Show where one of the 10 models due to be made will be showed to the general public. Stay tuned for more pics straight from the showroom floor.

Frankfurt roadtrip episode 2: visits to the Audi, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz museums

Posted: 14 Sep 2009 10:47 AM PDT

After the first post from our roadtrip through Germany, I couldn’t keep you updated with what happened in the past few days because the internet connection at the Ingolstadt and Stuttgart hotels was very bad or did not work, so here we are finally in Frankfurt, where we arrived last night. Today we went and picked up our press passes and now we’re taking a little rest before tomorrow’s mania starts. So, here’s what we visited in the last three days:

The Audi Museum (museum mobile) in Ingolstadt. Unfortunately, there weren’t any English guided tours available (couldn’t really understand why), so went to see the museum on our own. With no one to tell us interesting facts about the cars exhibited there and their history, all we had was the information written for every car.

Audi Museum Mobile Ingolstadt Germany

Overall, the tour seemed a little dull, but we liked the concept car section, which has an very interesting design (the cars are placed on small platforms that rotate) and the we were also impressed with the Audi 920 and the Front Luxus classics.

The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. I’m sure that every car enthusiast out there gets the shivers when he or she sees the legendary Porsche 356, one of the most famous cars ever to be built and also the car that started the Porsche history when launched by Ferdinand Porsche back in 1948.

Porsche Museum Stuttgart Germany

Like at the Audi museum, we didn’t have an English guide, but still we saw some really interesting stuff, like a Porsche tractor (never knew Porsche built that) and an interesting panel with all the trophies Porsche cars won in motorsport over the year (really, really impressive). Also Porsche has a nice display of the Carrera history, which emphasizes the range’s evolution.

The Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. This was the last museum we visited, but without doubt it was the most impressive experience from our German trip. Accompanied by our guide (which was great, too bad we can’t remember his name), we went on and saw the Mercedes history, a history which, especially in the first years, coincides with the history of the automobile.

Mercedes Benz Museum Stuttgart Germany

And because we’re going to write more detailed posts about every museum we went to, I’m not going to say more about the Mercedes one right now, except that if you haven’t visited yet, you have no idea what you’re missing.

Special thanks to our partners, who made our experience better: Mercedes Benz and BMW (cars), Sony (A380Y DSLR camera), Mio (Moov S555 GPS device), Vodafone (mobile internet) and Acer (Travelmate 8371 Timeline laptop).

Bugatti introduces the Galibier, a 4-door Veyron supercar

Bugatti introduces the Galibier, a 4-door Veyron supercar

Gee, that Bugatti Veyron sure is something right? With a $1.4 million price tag it sure is pricey for something with only two doors. Perhaps we can find something more family friendly at that price. Oh, good thing Bugatti just announced the Galibier sedan, which has all of the features of the Veyron, including its monster W16 quad-turbo engine but with 4-doors.

That’s right, the manufacturer has just revealed the Galibier, which if your history is up to date, is the name of a 1939 model from the car maker, the Type 57C Galibier Saloon, and the name of a mountain pass in the in the southern part of the French Dauphiné, Alps near Grenoble. The model was teased this summer, but everyone thought it would be yet another special edition of the Veyron.

The inside of the Bugatti Galibier

But enough about history and geography, as according to 4WheelsNews, the Galibier will see the big W16 engine at its front, meaning that it will weight around 1,900 kg, or 4,200 pounds. This will reflect on its top speed, “only” managing to top out at 350 km/h / 217 mph, but it won’t need a second key, like the Veyron does, to put into race mode. It will be longer than the two-door supercar, by almost 80 inches, reaching 5.2 meters.
The back of the Bugatti Galibier

Bugatti declined to reveal any other details like availability or price, but we might see something in the near future, as the company won’t be appearing in Frankfurt this week.

Leaked pics show the Audi e-Tron Concept: an electric/hybrid R8

Leaked pics show the Audi e-Tron Concept: an electric/hybrid R8

The Frankfurt Motor Show is definitely going to be some serious business for the largest German car-making corporations as almost all of them will reveal new models or concepts. While the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics will be revealed, production-ready version of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing will also be displayed.

But if we believe a new batch of pictures supposedly leaked from Audi, the Ingolstadt manufacturer will crash the party also, as these concept sketches showcase the highly rumored e-Tron Concept. Although nothing was for certain until now, it seems that the design team heavily borrowed from the R8 supercar, as except for a few things, it is practically the same car.

The e-Tron concept will be similar to the normal R8 but will feature a new front grill, with redesigned headlights, and a drastically changed rear end, with a shrunken rear window. The rear side vents are gone, as well as the aggressive lines from the hood, but the new concept does feature special allow wheels.

The inside of the Audi e-Tron concept

The interior pics showcase a very interesting cabin, as the dashboard is driver oriented, featuring an LCD display, with the navigation, flanked by a speedometer and a tachometer, thus revealing that it might not be a fully electric car, but a hybrid, with a normal engine running in tandem with an electric one.

Nothing is known officially as the German company is keeping a lid on statements about this rumored model. All we can do is wait for this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show and possibly see this new concept.
