Chrome Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster drives around London Posted: 13 Nov 2009 04:36 AM PST *Sigh* Yes my friends, the picture above is real, no Photoshop no nothing. It is a real Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster, supposedly on Downing Street in London, UK. You would think that such a model would be seen on streets from Dubai or any other place fueled by oil-dollars and the wishes of rich Arabs, but who said Londoners can’t enjoy something like this. Really you can’t say anything more to this pic, perhaps just wonder why he chose to do such a thing to an expensive car and why aren’t the wheels also chromed. What do you think? 800 kids build life-size BMW X1 from Lego bricks Posted: 13 Nov 2009 04:23 AM PST My childhood, as well as almost anyone’s, was filled with fond memories about the Lego bricks and how much time I spend building fantastic things, at least in my mind, with them. Everything from cars, to robots or anything in between came to life thanks to the iconic building bricks. But 800 kids from Germany were treated to something much broader in scope, as they built, with the help of 165,000 bricks, a life-size replica of the BMW X1 model. The whole project took four days, and was commissioned by BMW, which gave a certain amount of money for every brick used. The replica will be displayed at the BMW Welt (World, in German) convention, which will start in Munich on November 25. You should also stay tuned to our website, as we just finished test driving the new BMW X1 through some interesting terrain, and the review will be up soon enough. Lotus preparing new Esprit model Posted: 13 Nov 2009 04:08 AM PST Lotus fans are in for a big treat it seems, as rumors have been leaked about the company preparing a new Esprit model, which will enter development soon and play a major role in the brand’s image. While the end result might have a new name, sources say that it is called the Esprit internally, and that it will sit higher than the current Exige, Elise, Europa and Evora models, being the “essential brand image builder” and “high status purchase”. Other details are scarce though, but the source has claimed that the English brand is targeting a power-to-weight ratio of around 275-325 HP per ton, which is close to other performance models like the Audi R8 V10. This is certainly some great news for Lotus fans, as more models from the company means business is still going strong. Source: Autocar Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Honda: Hydrogen fuel cell cars will be popular in 20 years, until then hybrids are here to stay Posted: 13 Nov 2009 03:46 AM PST In a new statement which should solidify the new position that Japanese carmaker Honda has, its CEO, Takanobu Ito, revealed that it will be at least 20 years until hydrogen-powered cars will become popular on the market. Until then, hybrids will gain a bigger market share, he continued. “It will be 20 years at the earliest before fuel cell cars penetrate the mass market,” said Ito, which also revealed that the company is working on many types of technologies which will improve the efficiency of Honda cars and even target the performance end of the market. “This is something that we are considering, and the CR-Z is only one shape of Honda's hybrid sports cars in the current age,” said Honda design boss Nobuki Ebisawa. He was then completed by Ito which said that the 2-engine technology, one electric, one regular, is key to building a bigger performance sportscar. “We recognize that one motor is not sufficient for bigger cars. The class above the Civic would need two motors, so we are developing such a system. We want to minimize weight and maximize efficiency." Sadly though, as much as Honda fans would love it, the future sportscar probably won’t be a revived NSX, as rumors indicate that a revamped S2000 coupe will be the basis for such a future model. Until then though, you will be able to check out the CR-Z coupe at Detroit Motor Show at the beginning of 2010. Source: Autocar Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Bugatti Veyron goes for a dip in a lake after driver got distracted by a pelican Posted: 13 Nov 2009 02:02 AM PST This story is just unbelievable from beginning to end, but the video and pictures prove that it actually happened. It seems that a Texan driver of a stunning Bugatti Veyron supercar was looking for some real estate to buy in Galveston, near the Omega Bay. But due to a low flying pelican, he got distracted and jerked the wheel to avoid a collision. Needless to say, he ended up in a saltwater lagoon, from which he escaped uninjured, but the beautiful and expensive Veyron didn’t, needing a towing crew to get it out of the three-foot deep water. You can check out the video of the “rescue” operation after the jump.

Ferrari will implement turbocharging in its engines but after it improves it Posted: 13 Nov 2009 01:29 AM PST Hopping on the bandwagon which militates that big, naturally-aspirated engines be replaced with smaller, turbocharged units, Ferrari has revealed that it is considering the solution for its future models, but the technology still needs to be improved and prevent the “unacceptable” turbo lag. “Turbocharging will come eventually, but we need to solve the issue of turbo lag," said Jean Jacques His, Ferrari’s engine developer. He revealed that turbo lag can’t be found on a Ferrari model to the prestige of the brand. He also tackled the idea that the Maranello-based supercar maker might use Fiat’s variable valve technology, as the company did try to implement it on the F430’s V8 engine, but didn’t get the power it expected. “The main benefit from Multiair comes in torque,” he said, “and it is difficult to get it to work at high revs.” But one technology which will appear on the future V12 Ferrari models was the dual-clutch gearbox, which is currently available only for V8 cars. Volkswagen preparing new platform, will use it on 60 new models Posted: 13 Nov 2009 12:58 AM PST When you’re one of the biggest carmakers in the world and own a big portfolio of brands and companies which all produce great cars, then you’re bound to want to streamline the whole platform swapping procedure as much as possible, and cut any unnecessary cost like adapting things between various manufacturers. This is the case of the Volkswagen group, which will be at the end of the year the biggest carmaker in the world. The company has just announced that it preparing a brand new front-wheel drive platform, dubbed the MQB (modularen querbaukasten or modular transverse engine mount architecture, for our non-German readers), and that it will be used on around 60 to 70 new models from companies like Audi, Skoda, Seat, and of course Volkswagen.
Set to replace the PQ2, PQ3 and PQ4 platforms, the new MQB will boast some cutting edge equipment, including the fact that it keeps the same distance between the front axle and the pedals, thus removing any customization cost. As such, it will allow the number of architectures for mounting the engine to the platform from today’s 18 to just 2, according to Hackenberg. Set to premiere on the new 2011 Audi A3 model, the MQB will prove a jack-of-all-trades, as it will be highly responsive to changes in track width, wheelbase and wheel size, and also allow four-wheel drive system to be fitted. Besides supporting various transmissions, the upcoming MQB also supports power options like petrol, diesel but also natural gas, liquid petroleum gas, ethanol and, with a few modifications, even hybrid units. <em>Source: Autocar Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Toyota Prius still dominates Japanese market, ahead of hybrid rival Honda Insight Posted: 13 Nov 2009 12:38 AM PST Although it shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone remotely familiar with how the automotive industry works nowadays, it seems that the Toyota Prius is still experiencing strong sales in its native Japan, beating its fellow hybrid rival, the Honda Insight. 26,918 Prius models were sold during the month of October, showing the popularity that the Toyota model enjoys. The Insight however, ranked number nine overall, with just 7,074 models sold, but well over the target that Honda set for the hybrid model, of 5,000 units. What’s a bit surprising is that the second best selling car was another Honda model, the Fit/Jazz, which went on to sell 15,444 units during October, showing that even a normal model, with the right accessories and qualities, can dominate a market which is oriented towards hybrids.
