Posted: 19 Nov 2009 02:35 AM PST I’m sure most of you can agree that adding chocolate to many things can make them better. But it seems that one Porsche dealer from the Netherlands has taken this logic to new heights, and decided, in order to celebrate the upcoming holidays, to coat a brand new Porsche 911 Carrera S in dark and white chocolate. That’s right, the perfect supercar for anyone with a well developed sweet tooth, was covered in almost 175 kg (around 385 pounds) of dark chocolate, with a few more kilos of the white variety for the headlamps. All of this effort was in order to celebrate Saint Nicholas, which arrives on the night of December 5 and leaves presents, according to many traditions, in the boots of people. Until December though, you can drool … I mean check out the chocolate-covered Porsche 911 Carrera S in the gallery below. GM reports $1.2 billion loss last quarter but is ready to start repaying loans Posted: 19 Nov 2009 02:04 AM PST In case you loaned GM some money (that is if you’re an US or Canada resident or represent a few other companies), great news, as the company reported a $1.2 billion loss … Wait, what? Even though the company reported a loss this last quarter, GM’s president and CEO, Fritz Henderson revealed that things are looking up, and that sales are showing a good momentum (thanks to Cash for Clunkers). This translates in the fact that the large corporation, which was bailed out at the beginning of the year, can finally start repaying the US and Canada governments. The first batch will consist of $1.2 billion and will be made in December, after that, monthly installments are expected to follow towards everyone which gave money to GM. What do you think about this? Don’t be shy and leave a comment to this article. Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

IIHS reveals 2010 top safety picks: Subaru leads while BMW or Toyota are nowhere to be seen Posted: 19 Nov 2009 01:52 AM PST The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the US version of the Euro NCAP safety testing organization, has just revealed its picks for the safest cars of 2010, after subjecting to a grueling series of tests, including the brand new rollover protection evaluation, which helped trim narrow down the selection from 94 models in 2009 to just 27, arranged in five categories. The cars needed to get a Good rating (the highest possible on the testing scale) in tests like front and side impacts, head restraint in rear crashes and to have Electronic Stability Control, alongside the aforementioned rollover test. Among the big surprises this year, was the fact that reputed manufacturers like BMW or Toyota have no models in the safety picks, and that Subaru managed to be featured in every category it entered with its own models. Hit the jump to see IIHS’s 2010 top safety picks in terms of large, medium and small cars, and medium or small SUVs.
Large cars Midsize cars Small cars Midsize SUVs Small SUVs Overall, in case safety is your prime concern when buying a car, rest assured that these models will definitely keep you safe in a lot of unpleasant circumstances. Source: Consumer Reports Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Honda planning new NSX, but only as a race car Posted: 19 Nov 2009 01:26 AM PST Many car fans can remember the iconic Honda NSX supercar, a model which proved that even Japanese company can produce performance models that can fight with the best of them, including Ferrari or Lamborghini. But as many of you sadly remember, Honda has axed the plans for a new version of the car. Now though, things have changed a bit, as the new regulations in Japan’s Super GT championship have banned the use of mid-engine sports cars during the races. This means that the front-engined NSX project, which was shelved some time ago might be brought back in order to continue the company’s presence in the Super GT competition. But even though it will be brought back, it seems that it will be exclusively for this competition, and unless some new rules appear, it will be the only reincarnation of the NSX that we’ll see. Dacia might enter UK market as soon as 2010, rumors say Posted: 19 Nov 2009 12:59 AM PST Even though such a fact has been been unconfirmed by the top officials at Renault, sources and rumors still claim that the company’s low-cost brand, Dacia, might enter the UK market as soon as 2010, despite the tough economy. These claims actually claim that thanks to the Sandero five-door hatchback and the upcoming Duster budget crossover, Dacia will certainly attract many people considering buying a cheap but reliable car. Also, the promotion it has been getting from the UK’s best auto show, Top Gear, didn’t hurt either, and I’m sure Renault wants to profit as soon as possible. Until it reaches the British Isles though, Dacia is still experiencing strong sales in the territories it has seen models launched, largely thanks to many scrappage (think Cash for Clunkers) schemes by various governments. Jenson Button joins Hamilton at McLaren, the UK throws huge party Posted: 19 Nov 2009 12:41 AM PST Great news for all of our British readers, as current Formula 1 champion Jenson Button has just signed with UK-based McLaren yesterday, joining fellow Brit and former F1 champ Lewis Hamilton in a team which just needs to paint their cars in the Union Jack to make it all complete (don’t forget that the main sponsor is Vodafone). Formula 1 never ceases to amaze in the last few years, and even though this season’s surprise team, Brawn GP was acquired by Mercedes-Benz in order to keep up the winning streak, the newly-formed Mercedes GP couldn’t prevent the departure of the two drivers which earned its title of best team during 2009, Rubens Barrichello and current champion Jenson Button. Of course there were rumors about this move for quite some time, culminating with a visit from Jenson and his managers at the McLaren headquarters, but the news that Brawn GP was acquired by the German carmaker, which until then held a lot of stocks in McLaren, made the move less likely. This change definitely impacts both Heikki Kovalainen, which will be replaced by Button, and the fate of Mercedes GP, which needs to get some top notch drivers as soon as possible. What do you think UK F1 fans? Will we see the British racing green be revived by McLaren, or should it be kept by Lotus when it will return soon enough in F1? Leave your thoughts about this and the Button’s move by sending a comment. Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

The Toyota Prius will outsell the Camry in the next decade, Toyota US boss says Posted: 19 Nov 2009 12:21 AM PST While the Toyota Prius is riding high the wave of popularity associated with hybrid vehicles, at least in the US, the Camry is still the best selling model, managing to beat its more eco brother by a ratio of three-to-one. But things will change, at least according the president of Toyota USA, Jim Lentz, which believes that the best selling car in the US will be outsold by the Prius in the next decade. This is quite weird, considering that the Prius isn’t even runner-up to the Camry, as the second best selling mode from the Japanese company in the US is the Corolla. Lutz does go on to offer back up to his claims, saying that as gas prices and eco-awareness go up, hybrids, especially the Prius, will also experience rising sales, managing to overtake conventional models, like the Camry. The Toyota USA executive also touched on the oft-rumored claim that the Prius badge will accompany other types of hybrid vehicles, saying that while nothing is for certain, he regularly pushes the leaders in Japan towards this direction. Do you believe that the Camry will eventually give up its crown to its hybrid brother? Leave a comment with your view on the matter. Audi A1 won’t feature Quattro all-wheel drive Posted: 19 Nov 2009 12:01 AM PST For many car fans, when you talk about Audi, you implicitly talk about the company’s famous Quattro all-wheel drive technology, which is emblematic for almost all of its models. But it seems that the upcoming A1 city car, which is set to be revealed in production-ready form at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March won’t be one of them, as new reports indicate that the famous technology will not be included in the new model. Largely to “blame” for such a thing is the weight of the Quattro system, and the new expenses it would add to the overall price of the A1, a model which will be marketed as an accessible premium city car for busy roads. According to some other reports, the A1 will be released in the last quarter of 2010, with a sportback model and the S1 version, which will be powered by a 1.4-liter TFSI engine developing 180 HP, in 2011, and, last but not least, a cabrio alternative in 2012. Even though many Audi fans are dedicated to Quattro, I’m not really convinced that the lack of the technology will put off any customers interested in the A1. What do you think? Volkswagen Amarok to be official vehicle for the 2010 Dakar Rally Posted: 18 Nov 2009 11:45 PM PST Great news for all you pick-up fans, as Volkswagen has just announced that its upcoming Amarok model will be the official support vehicle for the 2010 Dakar Rally, which will start on the first of January, next year, and span over 9,000 km (5,592 miles) through Argentina and Chile.
Part of the agreement between VW and the Dakar officials include the availability of 35 Amarok trucks, with 20 being used by organizers between rally stages and the rest to transport press members. Seeing as how the rally is one of the most prestigious endurance races in the world, I’m sure VW is quite pleased with itself. For those of you who don’t know, the Amarok will begin officially enter production at the beginning of 2010, at the company’s Argentina plant, and will be launched at the beginning in South America, with Europe, South Africa and Australia to follow. No word yet on the possibility of it reaching North American shores. Source: WorldCarFans Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Volvo considering revival of R performance division? Posted: 18 Nov 2009 11:30 PM PST Amidst the increase in popularity that its models have been enjoying, rumors have now appeared that say Volvo is considering the revival of its once famous R performance division, and thus taking the fight to manufacturers like BMW or Mercedes-Benz. Seeing as how its models are gaining quite a lot of attention (the Twilight Saga might also play a part in this) and how it is close to receiving a new owner inclined to invest more in it, in the form of target=”_blank”China’s Geely, the revival of the R performance division seems a natural move for Volvo. For those of you who don’t know, the last R-badged model was the S60R, a true sleeper performance model, which has seen the end of its production a few years ago. Now, the only R-badged things coming from the Swedish manufacturer are styling kits for select models, like the C30 (pictured above). Hopefully this is one rumor we will see turn into reality, as I’m sure many would want a performance car with Volvo’s efficient safety systems.
