Video: Ferrari California plows into bulldozer after driver attempts to show off Posted: 16 Nov 2009 12:54 AM PST After last week’s stunning Bugatti Veyron crash into a lake, which was all caught on video, the guys at WreckedExotics have found another batch of footage showing another expensive supercar, the Ferrari California, being crashed. It seems that two Bulgarian friends have just bought two California models, and decided to see what they could do on the streets of the country’s capital, Sofia. Needless to say, during one of the bends, one of them lost control, supposedly clipped a car and ended up hitting a bulldozer and some construction equipment. While the crash isn’t that severe, I’m sure he won’t be getting any money from his insurer after he sees the video. Hit the jump to see the footage.

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee spy shots appear, show a very attractive model Posted: 16 Nov 2009 12:40 AM PST While the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a quite a skilled off-road model, at least for Europeans, its looks haven’t really impressed. But according to some recent spy shots which surfaced showing the new model around Detroit, Michigan, the new one will change that. Revealing a much more stylish car, the spy shots convey a matte black Grand Cherokee with almost no camouflage. I’m quite sure that many of you will find the design line quite interesting, and it should, as it is mostly inspired from the BMW X5 model, especially around the back. Hopefully Fiat will realize the potential that this model will have and help Chrysler push it into the mainstream market. What do you think? Is the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee something you would be interested in? Leave a comment to the article with your thoughts. Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division will prepare a Porsche 911 killer in the future based on the SLS AMG Posted: 16 Nov 2009 12:29 AM PST Although most of the news coming out of Mercedes-Benz’s AMG performance division is in regards to the recently revealed SLS AMG supercar, the company is also working on a few other projects, not only various versions of the retro-inspired performance vehicle. Speaking during a recent SLS drive event, it seems that one AMG executive revealed that a smaller sportscar, presumably aimed at the Porsche 911 market segment, might be made by his company. Based on the same platform as the SLS AMG, it will keep the front-mounted V8 engine, but its capacity might be lowered from the current 6.2-liter figure. The smaller and presumably less expensive AMG model will certainly garner some attention, but according to the same executive, it won’t be stepping off the assembly line for five more years or so, as the division is concentrating all of its efforts into the SLS AMG. Do bear in mind that this is just a rumor, so don’t take a baby SLS AMG for ganted Source: Pistonheads via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

2011 Buick Regal unveiled for North America, hybrid version might also appear Posted: 16 Nov 2009 12:12 AM PST The moment many Buick fans have been awaiting has finally arrived last weekend as GM revealed the new 2011 Buick Regal, which will be available at dealerships across North America in the first half of 2010. Although the Oshawa Ontario plant will being production in 2011 for the model, it seems that GM is quick to speculate on the interest that the new car has generation and will task Opel, which still belongs to it, to rebadge Insignia models and ship them across the Atlantic. But besides the regular details, that it will be offered with direct-injection four-cylinder engines, an older document has surfaced, in which the Ontario plant was rumored to begin work on a hybrid mid-size sedan around 2011. The only mid-size sedan will be the Regal, fact which has led people to speculate that a hybrid Buick is in the works. We can’t know for sure until GM comes out with a statement, but given the fact that it is marketing the 30+ mpg consumption of the Regal, a hybrid confirmation will only make people delay buying the newly-revealed car. Mercedes-Benz considers building the C Class in US to prevent low profit Posted: 15 Nov 2009 11:52 PM PST As the recession takes a heavy toll on exchange rates all around the world, this leaves a big hole for carmakers that ship their models to and from different continents. In order to jumpstart the declining profit rates that its C Class is “enjoying” in the United States, Mercedes-Benz will decide, by January reportedly, if it will begin building it in the USA. If the decision goes through, the Vance, Alabama plant, which currently handles models like M, GL and R Class will be outfitted with the tools to produce around 80,000 C Class models every year, plenty to fuel the needs of the US public. While nothing is official just yet, it might prove to be a worthy investment, protecting the C Class from the weak dollar and bad exchange rates. Electric Renault Fluence to enter production in 2011 at Turkey plant Posted: 15 Nov 2009 11:36 PM PST We’ve already revealed to you last week that Renault will be pushing to launch two new electric vehicles in the following years, but it seems that the newly released Fluence model, whose Romanian launch we covered, will also be getting an all-electric version. Set to be made at the same plant in Bursa, Turkey, which produces the normal Fluence models, the electric vehicle will commence production in the first half of 2011, at around the same time the Twizy and Zoe will be ready for launch. The electric Fluence will first be launched in Israel and Denmark, but will also be available in other countries where the infrastructure allows electric vehicles to be used. Buyers will also be able to choose from three charging options for their battery, a standard one, a rapid one and the “QuickDrop” exchange one, which will swap out the old battery for a fully-charge one. As such, with three models attacking various segments of the market, Renault will be in a very good position. It’s time to see what other European carmakers have to say about that. Let the electric vehicle fight begin! Source: WorldCarFans Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

ATT Autotechnik gives the BMW 335i Cabriolet 363 HP Posted: 15 Nov 2009 11:21 PM PST You can’t deny that the current generation BMW 3 Series cabriolet version is quite attractive, but looks alone can’t satisfy a true BMW fan, so the team at ATT Autotechnik decided to modify the Bavarian convertible model and give it an increase in power. Starting with the 335i model, the team took the 3-liter twin turbo engine and, for starters, took it to power level I (costing €2,355), from 306 HP and 400 Nm of torque to 345 and 481, respectively, through the addition of a new controller. True performance enthusiasts will be able to choose power level II (€4,130), which sees a new stainless steel exhaust system, and the power fo the engine increased to 362 HP and 536 Nm, more than the last generation M3 model. Design chances include a set of ATT TEC LeMans 20-inch wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires, M3 louvers, new mounting accessories and LED indicators. The interior can also be customized according to the wishes of the customer. Source: WorldCarFans Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Ouch! Porsche SE posts €4.4 billion loss after failed Volkswagen takeover Posted: 15 Nov 2009 11:07 PM PST Think you’ve got it back during the recession? Well it’s nothing compared to what Porsche had in the 2008-2009 fiscal year, after its parent company, Porsche Automobil Holding SE posted a loss of €4.4 billion ($6.6 billion). Responsible for such a lost is the failed takeover of Volkswagen AG, as the company was borrowing money left and right in order to buy a majority claim in its German rival. As you all know, the move backfired and Porsche was forced to merge with VW last summer in order to prevent any damages to its car division. Speaking of car division though, the corporation did say that Porsche AG “remains the world’s most profitable automaker,” claiming that its profit margin in in the double-digit area, something with which not a lot of carmakers can boast. Hopefully this financial loss won’t affect the quality of the cars coming out of the assembly lines and the merger with VW will yield some great results, both in terms of finance and new models (some of which you can check out here). 3 million 1993-2004 Jeep Gran Cherokee models might be investigated by NHTSA due to gas tank fires Posted: 15 Nov 2009 10:49 PM PST The Center for Auto Safety has just revealed that it is petitioning the NHTSA (National Highway and Traffic Safety Association) to commence investigating over 3 million Jeep Grand Cherokee models, due to their plastic fuel tank being position in such a way that will make combustion quite probable. It seems that because the gas tank is located behind the rear axle and below the bumper, when smaller vehicles that the big Cherokee crash from behind, the tank might rupture. Adding to the danger that this presents, the Center also states that the fuel filler neck can easily be sheared off during accidents and lead to fuel spills on the road. While the NHTSA is taking into consideration the start of the test, Chrysler has already issued a statement in which it says that the Cherokee will come out of it with flying colors. Sadly though, it seems that the files from the NHTSA revealed that pre-2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee models were involved in 172 crashes with fires, resulting in 254 deaths, while the vehicles made after 2005 in just one accident and one death. But in case you’re a 1993-2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee owner, you might want to stay tuned for more news in the following weeks. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
