Nissan not happy with Olympic committee decision, says its electric cars would’ve been better Posted: 20 Nov 2009 02:16 AM PST We’ve reported yesterday that BMW was chosen by the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) in order to supply vehicles for officials, teams and athletes. But while the London and German officials were quite happy, the guys over at Renault-Nissan weren’t exactly pleased. The French-Japanese corporation has issued a statement in which it revealed that the electric vehicles from Nissan would’ve been a much better choice, seeing as how out of the 4,000 vehicles supplied by BMW, only a handful will be electric models.
The Nissan executive also says that it would’ve been a great publicity options for electric vehicles if they were a part of the Olympic Games in 2012. Although I understand Nissan’s point, it does seem like the company is just screaming “sour grapes”. I’m sure electric vehicles will handle themselves quite well in the following years, as infrastructure grows to support them. Source: Autocar Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Porsche unveils 911 GT3 R, more power, easier handling Posted: 20 Nov 2009 01:25 AM PST While many professional racing drivers applauded the 911 GT3 Cup S, it wasn’t the simplest Porsche to handle around the track. As such, the Stuttgart manufacturer has now unveiled the 911 GT3 R model. As the name suggests, it is fully compliant with FIA’s GT3 regulations and is powered by the 4-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, developing 480 HP and connected to a six-speed sequential gearbox, which sends power to the back wheels. Among the modifications brought forward by the GT3 R include a better handling, as opposed to the Cup S, as well as a decrease in weight, now just 1,200 kg (2,646 lbs), and the increased power output. In order to wield the GT3 R better, drivers can also use an improved ABS system, a revised traction control and a new e-gas function with throttle-blipping. On the outside, Porsche engineers fitted wider wheel arches, a new front end and LED taillight. Also, you can’t help but notice the huge wing on the back. Sales of the Porsche 911 GT3 R are slated to being in spring 2010, with a base price of €279,000, which doesn’t include taxes or VAT. Source: Porsche Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Ferrari preparing track-oriented 599 GTO? Posted: 20 Nov 2009 01:09 AM PST Ferrari, as well as almost any other supercar manufacturer, usually release hardcore, track-oriented version of all of their models. Such is the case with most of the Scuderia models or those with the XX badge. According to recent rumors, the 599 GTB Fiorano will be the next target for improvement by the engineers at Ferrari, as leaked pre-order information reveal a 599 GTO (named after the iconic 250 GTO) Limited Edition, which might go head to head with the special editions from Lamborghini. Voices are already confirming that this future model will use many of the carbon-fiber body elements and technologies presented in the 599 XX concept (pictured above) during this year’s Geneva Motor Show, and rumors peg anything from 680 to 700 HP being squeezed from the massive V12 engine of the 599, overtaking the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce in terms of power. Pricing will be, as expected, much higher than your average 599 and are estimated at around $400,000. The official reveal is also expected to take place at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, in March next year. Source: Autogespot via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Sebastien Loeb enters history through famous painting Posted: 20 Nov 2009 12:53 AM PST While the title may seem a bit strange, it seems that Sebastien Loeb’s record-breaking performance of winning six consecutive WRC championship titles has inspired one of Citroen’s top sponsors, Total, to reveal a new ad campaign, courtesy of CLM BBDO. The campaign, originally set to feature the picture from above, which shows a famous painting with Napoleon Bonaparte and something special in the background, will now be extended to feature two more famous artworks, after the first was extremely well received. Hopefully Loeb will continue his great performances, and all of the other WRC drivers will continue to challenge his supremacy. BMW to launch Mini models with Rolls Royce interiors Posted: 20 Nov 2009 12:42 AM PST Even though Mini models do give you a bit of exclusivity, it doesn’t hurt to have even more, at least that is BMW is thinking, as it reliable sources reveal that next year we will see new Mini models with interior trims made at the Rolls Royce plant in Goodwood, as previewed at the beginning of the year. The new “niche vehicles” will reflect a high degree of individuality, and if successful, buyers will also be able to commission other options which will be fitted by the experts at the prestigious British brand, which shares the BMW corporate umbrella with Mini. It seems that the Bavarian company is learning a lesson from the past, where customized Minis were all the rage among British celebrities, like actor Peter Sellers or the members of The Beatles. As you can imagine, no official word has been spilled, but according to the sources, next year might be when Mini fans with money in their pockets can expect such exclusive models. US government is excited about Fiat’s plan for Chrysler Posted: 20 Nov 2009 12:29 AM PST It seems that good news are coming from Detroit and Washington in these past few weeks, as after GM’s flamboyant claim that even though it has recorded a loss, it will start paying back those who bailed it out, Ron Bloom, the chief of the Obama Auto Task Force has revealed that he is quite pleased with what the Italians at Fiat are doing with Chrysler, especially after seeing the new plan unveiled a few weeks ago, which detailed 14 new models and revamps for 10 more. Bloom revealed that the plan made by Fiat shows “a huge sense of urgency. We see a huge dedication and commitment, working extremely hard.” But he does agree that it will be one hell of a ride and that a lot of hard work needs to be done on both ends of the deal so that Chrysler can go public and pay out all of its loans. For those of you not familiar with the situation of the Detroit carmaker, the United Auto Workers union currently owns over 55% of the company, and until it will go public and pay the pension obligations, a move which was pegged by Fiat president Sergio Marchionne around 2011, things are still quite sticky. Until then though, for the sake of everyone involved, let’s hope that Fiat knows what it is doing and the new models announced will experience good sales. Audi A8 to debut in Miami’s Design District on November 30th Posted: 20 Nov 2009 12:15 AM PST Declining to go the old-fashioned route and presenting its new model at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, Audi has just announced that it will be revealing the next generation of its flagship model, the A8, at a temporary exhibit (pictured above) dedicated to the Ingolstadt manufacturer, in the famous Miami Design District.
But what’s more interesting is that the debut will be made on November 30th, right on my name day. So if any Audi officials are reading this, I expect a brand new A8 at my doorstep on that day, contact me for any other details. All joking aside though, the new A8 promises to be a very interesting model, coming in various flavors of petrol and diesel engines, as well as a hybrid and, according to some rumors, a high performance model, to take on models like the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG. Renault considering selling 40% of Formula 1 team to Russian investors? Posted: 20 Nov 2009 12:02 AM PST While most of the talk surrounding Formula 1 these days center around drivers switching teams left and right, a new rumors has brought back another piece of interesting news. After Toyota’s departure from F1, it seems that all of the Renault executives got together to decided what the French company will do, after its drivers, team leaders and almost everyone but the cleaning lady have gone to other, presumably greener pastures. But even though everyone was expecting some sort of announcement, nothing was revealed after the meeting. Now, according to a prestigious Finnish newspaper, Turun Sanomat, it seems that the French carmaker is considering selling almost 40% of the F1 team’s stock to a group of foreign investors, from Russia most probably. This move would make sense in these tough economic times, but the paper also says that the deal, if finalized, will mean that GP2 driver Vitaly Petrov would appear on the team’s driver roster alongside Robert Kubica. Also, if you consider the bad press Renault has been experiencing in Russia, such a move might go far in terms of public appreciation for the French company. MTM takes the Audi TT RS up to 424 HP Posted: 19 Nov 2009 11:48 PM PST What do you think about the Audi TT? “Too slow” you say? How ’bout the TT RS? Still not good enough? Well how about you go to the tuners at MTM, which have just unveiled a three-stage tuning program for the TT RS, which will take the five-cylinder engine to new heights. The standard Audi TT RS rolls out from the factory with “just” 340 HP and 332 lb-ft of torque, but thanks to some clever tweaking, MTM can take it upward to 424 HP, in the stage three upgrade program. THis is all thanks to upgrades done to the ECU and the exhaust system, as such, a stage three MTM Audi TT RS can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and up to a top speed of 185 mph. Other enhancements include a set of 19-inch Bimoto wheels, manufactured by MTM as well as 15-inch brakes boasting eight-piston calipers and lowering springs fitted to the suspension.
