Lexus to lease the LFA for two years, then sell it in order to avoid speculators Posted: 24 Nov 2009 12:33 AM PST In a very surprising move on the supercar market, Lexus has just announced that its upcoming model, the LFA, will be leased to all of the customers in the United States, in order to avoid speculators. But this isn’t your normal type of leasing though, as the company will accept customization orders from its customers, but won’t hand over the title to the car until two years have passed. At that point, the driver can pay up the remaining amount of money for the car in order to truly own it. This new strategy will be used by Lexus in order to avoid speculators jacking up the price of the limited edition LFA supercar, and to really persuade people to use it everyday, and not put it on a pedestal in museum or something like that. It is a bold move from Lexus, but if it will work, expect other supercar manufacturers to follow soon. What do you think? Leave a comment with your view. New rumors appear on the Lamborghini Jota and Urus replacements for the Gallardo and Murcielago Posted: 24 Nov 2009 12:21 AM PST In case the economy hasn’t put your wallet on a diet, you might want to save up your money and refrain from buying the current Lamborghini models, from the “cheap” Gallardo to the Murcielago or recently-revealed Reventon Roadster, as new rumors have appeared about the models which will replace the first two cars. First off, and closes to entering production, is the Jota model, which will replace the Gallardo and be available as soon as 2011. Set to use a massive 6.0-liter V12 engine which should provide anywhere frmo 600 to 700+ HP, the model will use a carbon fiber chassis in order to provide one of the best horse power/ton ratio. But in case you find this Jota underpowered, rest assured that the Murcielago replacement, the Urus, will be more than adequate for your needs, providing around 800+ HP from its own V12 engine, rivaling the replacement for the Ferrari Enzo that the team from Maranello is preparing. It will use the same chassis as the Jota, but make it even lighter, in order to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 3 seconds. Expect this model to arrive as soon as 2012. Do take these rumors with a grain of salt though, as nothing is for certain just yet, but if I were a Lambo fan, I’d start saving up some money for the next few years. Audi preparing 600 HP twin-turbo R10 model? Posted: 23 Nov 2009 11:58 PM PST Before all of you Audi fans get excited, do bear in mind that this is just a rumor, but knowing the track record of Lamborghini, Audi is keen on getting a Murcielago-type model to the Gallardo-like R8. This means that a new model, dubbed the R10, is already in development, and will share the engine with the upcoming replacement for the aging Lamborghini Murcielago. The unit in question is a massive twin-turbo 5.0-liter V10 engine, which will be mounted in the middle and send around 600 HP to all of the four wheels. The platform will also be shared with the new top-of-the-range Lambo, being built from aluminum with a dose of carbon fiber for good measure. Rumors also suggest that the new model is already under serious tests, and might arrive as soon as 2012. Given the popularity of the R8, it does make some sense than an R10 will arrive sometime in the future, and with the e-Tron concept paving the way for a baby, more eco-friendly R model, the lineup from Audi will be complete. Police foil illegal nighttime racing on Hockenheimring circuit Posted: 23 Nov 2009 11:45 PM PST Although many of us approve of car racing, we firmly believe that it should be done in a closed environment and with all of the safety precautions taken by those who participate. But a recent action at the Hockenheimring racing circuit, the venue for the Formula 1 German Gran Prix, serves a conflict of interest. It seems that a over 100 people in 43 cars got together at night on the track and began racing each other. It was all fun and games before 50 cops arrived on the scene and fined them for illegal trespassing, as the fact that they were on an enclosed environment protected them from being charged with illegal street behavior or racing. While the fact that they took the racing to a circuit should be applauded, they could’ve easily just gone to a track day or something like that, in order to prevent any problems with the police. TDI engine celebrates its 20th anniversary: a happy diesel birthday Posted: 23 Nov 2009 11:33 PM PST It’s hard to believe but Audi has announced that its TDI engine is celebrating 20 years of existence this fall, as the first unit rolled off the assembly line in an old Audi 100. Since those simpler times, when the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine had distributor injector pumps, technology evolved to pump-injectors and ultimately to the current day common rail injection system. Since then, the Volkswagen group, of which Audi is a part of, has built over 5 million TDI engines which are paving the way for efficient cars which don’t pollute as much as before but also offer adequate amounts of power when you need it. RPMGo wishes the TDI a happy bithday! Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

2011 BMW 5 Series officially unveiled, we’ve got all the juicy details and photos Posted: 23 Nov 2009 11:03 AM PST I’m pretty sure almost any BMW fan has had this day marked in his calendar, as the Bavarian automaker revealed the its next generation 5 Series sedan, paving the way of the new design line into the mainstream market, after it was premiered on models like the 7 Series, 5 Series GT and X1. The new generation boasts the longest wheelbase in its segment, as well as a very aggressive but also balanced style, on the outside as well as on the inside of the car, with the German carmaker saying that the new sixth generation of the 5 Series will guarantee an imposing presence anywhere. But what’s more interesting is the engine lineup the Bavarian automaker has prepared for the new 5 Series, starting with the 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel, which delivers 135 kW or 184 HP, but consumes just 5.0 liters/100 km in the EU5 cycle (56.6 mpg imp), largely thanks to the standard Auto Start Stop system. The top-of-the-range, at least until the M5 arrives, will be the 550i, powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine outputting 300 kW or 407 HP. For people who don’t want as much power from the new 5 Series, a variety of straight six-cylinder units will be offered, with the petrol ones developing 306 HP in the 535i, 258 HP in the 528i and 204 HP in the 523i. Diesel fans will also be able to opt for straight-six units, generating 245 HP in the 530d and 204 HP in the 525d. Emissions wise, all of the engines fulfill Euro 5 regulations, with the 530d BluePerformance managing to comply with Euro 6 ones. Fans of interior gadgets will be pleased to hear that the Head-Up Display is once again preeminently featured, alongside the iDrive system. A variety of other safety systems including collision detection, surround view and many others also present in the new 5 Series, as well as airbags and other things. Overall the new BMW 5 Series is truly a major stepping stone for the Bavarian carmaker, which will be welcomed by many fans as the most important launch of the year. What do you believe? Share with us your thoughts on the new 5 Series. Photo Gallery: 2011 BMW 5 Series Source: BMW Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Top Gear Season 14 Episode 2 review Posted: 23 Nov 2009 07:55 AM PST After a smashing debut of its 14th season, Top Gear was back yesterday on BBC 2 and BBC HD to satisfy the thirst of any auto enthusiast out there. But while last week’s episode was focused on a road trip through Romania, now, the guys have taken on a brave and eco challenge, as they were required to built an electric-powered car from scratch, with their own chassis, engine and design, with Richard Hammond, James May and Jeremy Clarkson, respectively, handling one department. Hit the jump to read the full review of the TV show. After a few mishaps, some really awkward ideas and much sweat at the Top Gear Technological Bureau, the Geoff was born. Needless to say, on its first road test, things were disastrous, as the Geoff ran out of juice in the middle of Oxford and ended up nose first into a tree down the bottom of a hill. But the lads weren’t keen on letting this “tiny drawback” get in their way and devised the next generation of their car, the Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust, which not only saw more batteries being added, but also a shop-bought diesel generator which recharged said batteries on the go. A true pinnacle of engineering excellence, if the boys could say so themselves. Seeing as how perfect the i-Thrust was, the team decided to take it to the testing rage, where it underwent a full set of European crash and reliability tests. Thanks to some clever ideas, which at least for me brought insane amounts of laughter, it passed almost all of these, including beating the G-Wiz, a bicyclist and a fast girl in a drag race. Sadly, the i-Thrust was no match for the new Toyota Prius in said race. All of these tests culminated with two events, the Eco-Stig taking the i-Thrust in an autonomy exercise, which ended up quite badly, and the regular Stig taking it to the headquarters of Autocar, where it underwent the magazine’s famous drive test. Once again, things didn’t end up as the guys would’ve wanted. A great segment of the show was also dedicated to the Audi R8 V10 model, a perfect supercar for any sensible man, according to Jeremy, but totally lacking any sort of personality. The German model was thrown against the “bonkers” Corvette ZR1, which was all around the test track, with bits falling off, but did all of that filled with personality. The star in the reasonably price car was Michael Sheen, which managed an extremely good time, considering the track was damp, he just arrived in the UK with an airplane and, according to him, was also Welsh. Overall, a great episode, which didn’t really start in full swing but got into motion fast enough. What did you think? Leave a comment with your thoughts. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
