New video shows an Aston Martin loose control, crashes into tree on wet road Posted: 23 Nov 2009 01:49 AM PST Wet roads can be extremely hazardous, and when you add in a powerful sportscar like an Aston Martin DB9 probably running on summer tires, you’ve got a recipe for disaster. This is what happened to in Warsaw, Poland, to a driver which lost control of his car and crashed into a tree, which then split in half. Luckily, it didn’t fall anywhere near the driver or his car. This incident was caught on tape by someone, which shows the exact accident in the left corner. He then does another pass by 20 minutes later, showing the police already on scene. Hit the jump to see this video of the Aston Martin crashing into a tree.

Valentino Rossi takes BMW M3 GTS out on the track, receives brand new M3 Posted: 23 Nov 2009 01:36 AM PST I’m sure pretty much anyone familiar with racing knows about Valentino Rossi, the phenomenal driver which managed to attain a record-breaking nine championship titles in the Moto GP competition. But he has also proven, many times, that he is quite adept at controlling vehicles with four wheels, not just two. As such, in honor of him becoming the fastest pilot in the qualifying sessions, BMW, a sponsor of Moto GP, offered him a new M3 model. But before he got the keys to the performance car, he got a taste of the track-oriented M3 GTS model, which was revealed a few weeks ago. It’s safe to say that a performance enthusiast like Rossi was thrilled (just look at his face in the picture), and he immediately declared that he wants one of the first models which roll off the assembly line next year. Be sure that BMW will continue promoting the GTS before its official debut on the market next year. Source: BMW M Division via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe officially revealed, CTS-V coupe also confirmed Posted: 23 Nov 2009 01:17 AM PST While plenty of Cadillac fans were quite happy with the CTS, some of them believed that true performance can only come from a coupe model, and weren’t swayed by the quite powerful CTS-V, which showed its strengths on multiple occasions. Now, for such fans, Cadillac has revealed the CTS coupe model, a very bold and aggressive statement, which will take the fight to European modes like the BMW 3 Series coupe or Audi A5. The standard version will be powered by the direct-injection 3.6-liter V6 engines, which develops 304 HP and 273 lb-ft of torque. Paired with the standard Aisin six-speed manual gearbox, expect 17 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway, if you opt for the Hydra-Matic 6L50 six-speed ‘box, expect 17/26. You can also choose between rear and all-wheel drive, as well as between the performance package, which includes 18-inch wheels, or the summer tire performance package, which has 19-inch ones wrapped in summer tires (duh!) and larger brakes. In terms of design though, the new CTS coupe is quite a looker, and strays quite far from the lines of the sedan model, managing to pull off some sharp angles with the windshield and rear window, as well as hiding the B pillar and an ingenious set of door handles. Expect the new model in 2010, alongside a high performance V Series version, which will offer some interesting thrills. Until then, enjoy the gallery below, and leave a comment with your thoughts on this new model. Photo Gallery: 2010 Cadillac CTS Coupe Source: Cadillac Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Hybrid BMW 1 Series spied during testing Posted: 23 Nov 2009 12:44 AM PST BMW is hard at work testing out a hybrid version of its 1 Series lineup, at least according to a new set of spy shots which show a prototype 1 Series model with two “Hybrid Test Vehicle” stickers on the rear window and bumper. According to rumors, the hatchback model will see a scaled-down version of the system already used in the 7 Series and X6 ActiveHybrid models, with the electric motor located between the engine and transmission, and a small lithium-ion battery in the rear of the car. Set to arrive when the next generation 1 Series premieres, around 2011 or even early 2012, the model will rival things like the Lexus LF-Ch, which was shown in concept form in Frankfurt. GM saw 193 vehicles (0.9%) returned during its 60 day money back guarantee program Posted: 23 Nov 2009 12:29 AM PST I’m sure most of you were quite skeptic about GM’s new 60 day money back guarantee promotion, which let anyone buy a new Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet or GMC model and if they weren’t pleased with it, could then return it in 60 days. But at least according to the company’s Vice president of global product engineering, Mark Reuss, it is quite successful, as from the 222,000 customers only 193 (that’s 0.9%) opted to return their cars. According to the representative, 53 have already been sent back to dealers, while 140 are still in the process. He also revealed that all of the customers would be interviewed in order to find out just what wasn’t right with the GM models they preferred. But Reuss also highlighted that some people took the chance to swap between various editions of the car, as with a man which traded his new Cadillac SRX with a more expensive one. BMW M3 and Audi S3 wrapped in Police vinyls lap the Nurburgring Posted: 23 Nov 2009 12:16 AM PST I’m sure most hardcore car fans know about the famous Nurburgring circuit, the go-to place for every major carmaker wanting to test out a new performance car, or for every racing enthusiast which wants to prove something with their vehicle. But I’m sure most of you don’t know about these two models which were spotted on the famous circuit: a BMW M3 and an Audi S3. Fine, what’s so great about these two cars? How about the fact that they’re wrapped in Police vinyls and genuinely look the part. They are a part of the Ring-Police group, which specializes in training pilots and offering “Taxi” services on the famous circuit. But even so, I’m sure these two models really gave some pilots quite a scare when they appeared in their rear-view mirror. Source: Autogespot via CarScoop Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Toyota may shorten the acceleration pedal in order to prevent floor mat from jamming it Posted: 23 Nov 2009 12:04 AM PST Many US Toyota and Lexus drivers have been eagerly following the whole debate on whether or not floor mats from various models can jam the accelerator pedal in fully open state, and thus result in a crash. The Japanese company has been studying the problem for at least two months, with the help of the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Association), and according to some sources, is close to an official decision on what modifications will the models likely to suffer such an event endure during the recall. It seems that Toyota may decide to shorten the gas pedal, and might even replace the faulty floor mats completely free of charge for owners of models like the 2007-’10 Camry, Tundra and Lexus ES 350; the 2005-’10 Avalon and Tacoma, 2004-’09 Prius, and 2006-’10 Lexus IS 250. It will no doubt cost the Japanese carmaker a lot of money, but sources also claim that it has plenty of cash for rainy recall days such as these. Stay tuned for an official confirmation on what will happen with the Toyota and Lexus models soon. Source: InsideLine via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Bailed out US automakers aren’t forced to make electric vehicles, government representative says Posted: 22 Nov 2009 11:50 PM PST Two of the biggest automakers in the world, GM and Chrysler, were fine with making average cars, while heavily promoting big heavy models which consumed quite a lot of fuel. After the recession hit, things weren’t so pretty and the US government decided to bail out the struggling corporations and task them with making new vehicles which will be attractive to the consumers. This doesn’t mean that the Obama administration is forcing GM or Chrysler to make electric vehicles or more fuel efficient ones, as the head of the auto taskforce, Ron Bloom, revealed to Reuteurs that: “We obviously would be very happy if Chrysler and GM were making lots and lots of high mileage cars. It’s not a prerequisite. It’s not an obligation.” The statement does make a lot of sense, as the government can always up the limit of fuel consumption for the cars made in the country, and will do so in the near future, but also needs to see GM and Chrysler release new and attractive vehicles for the consumers in order to generate a profit. Among those vehicles will, of course, be hybrids or electric models like the Chevrolet Volt. Source: Reuteurs via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

All-electric Rolls Royce Phantom might arrive as soon as late 2010 Posted: 22 Nov 2009 11:12 PM PST Even though we’ve recently posted rumors about the prestigious UK brand Rolls Royce and its plans for a hybrid version of its Ghost model, it seems that the statements made by its PR head, Richard Carter, about an electric version of the flagship Phantom model is much closer to becoming a reality. Partly backed up by the news that BMW will supply vehicles for the 2012 London Olympic Games, it seems that new rumors peg an electric Phantom to be revealed in just 12 months, if everything goes well. The model, which most likely will be made available only through a lease to potential customers, will be the flagship of the BMW fleet during the Olympics. Either way, with BMW really pushing electric ad hybrid technology forward it is quite likely that all of the brands under its wing will benefit and will release models with such systems implemented in them. Peugeot preparing baby RCZ, targets compact coupe market Posted: 22 Nov 2009 11:00 PM PST Although it broke the hearts of many fans with the announcement that it will drop the GTI badge from its portfolio and will never deal with hot hatchback models in the future, Peugeot is quite confident that the upcoming RCZ roadster will more than make up for its image with performance enthusiasts. But just to be certain, it seems that the French company is hard at work developing a smaller model of the RCZ, which will take on the compact coupe segment, against cars like the Mini John Cooper Works. The new car, according to some sources, will feature a Ferrari-design but with a very affordable price tag, right up the alley of many customers these days. The design, which is being created under the supervision of the chief designer at PSA Peugeot Citroen, Jean-Pierre Ploue, will focus on the new type of grille, with the logo floating in the center, just like present-day Ferrari models. Styling cues will also be implemented in its overall looks, not only in its badge mounting, as the model will have an imposing road presence. In terms of engine, rumors indicate that the same 1.6-liter turbo engine from the Mini JCW will be fitted to this new hot coupe model which will share the same platform as the replacement of the current 207, which will arrive in 2011. What do you think about this new initiative from Peugeot? Will it be successful with its fans? Leave a comment with your thoughts. Source: AutoExpress Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
