Dacia Duster, the first Romanian crossover, has been unveiled in the form a special edition Posted: 17 Nov 2009 03:48 AM PST Aiming to profit from the hype that the Dacia Sandero got after the first episode of the newest season of Top Gear, Renault has officially revealed the first crossover (or SUV according to some) of the Romanian brand Dacia. Now this isn’t a formal unveil, which will take place before Christmas, as Renault revealed a special edition of the Dacia Duster, prepped for the famous Trophee Andros competition, which takes place on some dangerous, snow-covered mountain roads. The special model will be piloted by none other than famous racing driver Alain Prost, in the aforementioned competition. The model has, of course, been prepped by the Renault Sport division, being outfitted with a big 3-liter V6 engine, placed at the rear-center side of the car, developing 350 HP and 360 Nm at 5,500 rpm. A tubular chassis and a sequential six-speed gearbox have also been added to the model, as well as a limited slip diff and a system which will allow all four wheels to help in the cornering of the lightweight model, which will weight around 950 kg (2,094 lbs). Overall, this special Dacia Duster is looking pretty good, but I do have some doubts if this is the face with which the production-ready model will be presented in December. What do you think? Video: Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo gets California stuck in the sand at Ferrari event Posted: 17 Nov 2009 01:54 AM PST Even if you might lead one of the most popular sportscar manufacturers in the world, this doesn’t mean that you are extremely qualified in handling them. That’s the case with Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo, which offered to drive around the new drivers of the official Italian Formula 1 team, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, around the track in a brand new Ferrari California. Everything was going according to plan when he decided to go on the sand with the California. It seems that he wasn’t aware that the sand located outside of the racing track was designed to slow down cars if they went off track and prevent any crashes. Needless to say, the car got stuck, and even if the two Ferrari drivers and various other assistants tried to help, it remained there. Hit the jump to see the video of how it all went down.

Ford considering EcoBoost V8 engine for the Shelby Mustang? Posted: 17 Nov 2009 01:39 AM PST The Ford Mustang is an iconic car, slap onto it the name of legendary racer and coachbuilder Carroll Shelb6, and you’ve got yourself a very exclusive and powerful vehicle, which has seen many versions like the GT500. But according to some new rumors popping out all over the auto industry, it seems that the Blue Oval is considering creating a new engine in its EcoBoost series, a V8 one, just for the future Mustang GT500 model. That’s right, imagine a twin-turbo, direct injected V8 on a massive Mustang body. We’ve already seen what the EcoBoost V6 unit can do on the Ford Taurus SHO, generating 365 HP, and according to some sources, a new, more economical but still powerful V8 unit will replace the current 5.4-liter engine which develops 540 HP and doesn’t really rival a Prius in terms of fuel economy, to say the least. Until we get an official confirmation, this will still be a dream for many Ford and Mustang fans out there. Source: DetroitBureau via Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

All GM brands hosting holiday sales starting this week Posted: 17 Nov 2009 01:09 AM PST In case you were wondering about buying a car this holiday season, then you might want to check out some of the brands from General Motors, as the large corporation will be hosting some major sales for all of the models built under its various brands. “All of our efforts will be to sell down our remaining 2009 inventory,” said GM’s VP of sales, Susan Docherty. She revealed that each car brand will have its own distinct promotion, with Chevrolet hosting “Red Tag Sales”, Buick and GMC going with “Holiday Event” while Cadillac will go with the classic “Season’s Best.” This is also a great time to get the remaining Pontiac and Saturn models from dealerships as Docherty revealed that only 10,000 Pontiacs and 8,000 Saturns are still in stock. “We’re actually winding down those products quicker than we had anticipated,” she revealed. This is some clever marketing from GM, which might generate a nice amount of money during this holiday season. Mercedes-Benz reveals pricing for the SLS AMG, already available for pre-order Posted: 17 Nov 2009 12:37 AM PST The new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG promises to be one hell of a supercar, with its massive 6.2-liter V8 propelling the retro-inspired model to 317 km/h (197 mph), thanks to the massive 571 HP and 650 Nm of torque. For those of you really interested in buying the new model, Mercedes-Benz has just set up a car configurator, located at this address, and revealed the pricing for the SLS AMG, which is now available for pre-ordering. Starting at €149,000 (that’s €177,310 if you include 19% VAT), it will have options like a ceramic braking system (€9500) AMG customized performance suspension (€1200) various flavors of wheels like light-alloy 5-twin-spoke ones (€950) or a set of forged 10-spoke ones (€2000), a carbon fiber engine cover (€4000), and even various pain schemes, from the affordable “Monza grey magno” (€3,250) to the outrageous “Allubeam silver” (€10,000). On the inside, you’ll be able to outfit the SLS with an AMG performance steering wheel wrapped leather and Alcantara (€400), a set of sport seats (€3300), a carbon fiber trim line (€3500), a nappa leather upholstery (€2500), even a memory package for the front seats and steering wheel (€1225), not to mention a six disc DVD changer (€660) which can be connected to an exclusive Bang & Olufsen BeoSound audio system (€5900). Overall, it seems that although Mercedes is marketing the SLS AMG as a rather affordable sports car, with some of the luxuries included here, it will easily jump the €200k mark. Volkswagen sharing Golf GTI 210 HP engine with Scirocco and Eos Posted: 17 Nov 2009 12:21 AM PST Sharing is caring in the Volkswagen group, as the company announced that the 2.0-liter TSI engine from the Golf GTI, which produces 210 HP and 280 (207 lb-ft) of torque will alo be made available on the Scirocco and Eos models. The four-cylinder engine, for those of you who don’t know, will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox and an optional DSG dual-clutch one, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, for the Scirocco, and 7.8 for the heavier Eos. But you’ll also get better fuel economy with this new model, as it will do a combined cycle of 7.4 liters/100 km (31.8 mpg) in the Scirocco and even better on the Eos, at 7.2 liters/100 km (32.7 mpg). Overall, this is definitely a great idea from Volkswagen, and will most certainly affect the sales of the GTI in favor of the Scirocco. Source: CarScoop Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Tata considers upgrading the Nano, “luxuries” will be included Posted: 17 Nov 2009 12:08 AM PST Honestly, you can’t really ask for much when you’re buying a brand new car at just $2,500 like the Tata Nano. It has become extremely popular in its native India, and is gearing up to be released in other territories, including Europe. But it seems that Tata isn’t happy with shipping an India-spec Nano to these countries, and is considering implementing some upgrades to the model, among which a better acceleration and … wait for it … a tailgate. No, I’m not kidding, it seems that future Nano owners will be able to push the 33 HP engine to a new redline at 6,000 rpm, but due to safety considerations, the top speed will still be limited to 65 mph. Also, the Indian engineers are considering shipping the Nano with a five-speed gearbox in Europe, and keeping the four-speed one in the local market. And as I’ve said above, a big change to the Nano will be introduction of an actual tailgate, as if you want to store something in the boot of the current model, you need to open he back doors, fold the seats and place your cargo. Another “luxury” implemented might be a new system for the side mirrors, which may even hint at an electric subsystem, which would cost extra. A new “check strap” which will limit how far the doors open might also be included. The changes aren’t confirmed though, and neither how much they will jack up the price of the cheap Nano. Ford announced that it will launch a new Police Interceptor in 2011 Posted: 16 Nov 2009 11:55 PM PST While Ford is busy promoting its vehicles left and right, it hasn’t forgotten about its partnership with many police departments in the United States, providing them with the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor model. The company has now announced that it will be launching a brand new Interceptor around 2011, one which will improve the great experience of the Victoria. The Blue Oval has also confirmed that it will be taking into consideration many requests from police officers and trying to implement them in the new model.
While the initiative is great, the press release raised a few eyebrows, with many people wondering just what base vehicle will be used for the endeavor. Rumors are already circulating about a US-spec Ford Falcon from Australia or even a highly customized Ford Taurus model. All we can do is wait until the beginning of 2010, when Ford promise to release more details on the new PI. Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Peugeot to merge 407 and 607 into the new 508 Posted: 16 Nov 2009 11:35 PM PST OK, I admit that title might have gotten you a bit confused, but that’s just what the new strategy for Peugeot is. According to some sources, it seems that the French company has decided to follow-up its two sedans, the 407 and 607, will be just one vehicle, dubbed the 508. This decision is largely due to economical constraints, as not a lot of people were interested in the big old 607, and that it will create a 408 model, but not the one you would expect, as it will just be a sedan version of the 308 hatchback, exclusively for the Chinese market. Enough to make you scratch your heads? I thought so. It seems that this new 508 will become the company’s flagship model, and although this move might turn off a few fans, it will be targeted at the premium segment of the market. Rumors also indicate that Peugeot will borrow some of the technology its partner, Citroen, has developed for the new C5. Last but not least, the model might arrive at the beginning of 2011, according to some voices, and a hybrid version might also make an appearance one year later, in late 2012.
