Posted: 06 Mar 2011 04:00 AM PST You probably know by now that RUF is a German tuner that loves rolling out performance packages for just about all the Porsche models. Their latest creation was unveiled this week in Geneva and is based on the 911 model. Dubbed Rt 12, the 3.8-liter Boxer engine was fitted with a twin-turbo that increases the output to an impressive 720 hp (730 PS / 537 kW) and 693 lb.-ft (940 Nm) of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and all this horsepower is sent to all the four wheels, with an optional rear-drive only setting available. RUF also installed an adjustable suspension and according to the tuning company, the Rt 12 can hit a top speed of 230 mph (370 km/h). The exterior look of the 911 has been updated with a carbon fiber rear spoiler, along with the hood and the front mudguards that are made out from the same lightweight material. To lower the car's weight, they've also installed aluminum-made doors and plastic side and rear windows. As an optional feature, customers can get a carbon fiber roof. With this strict diet, the Porsche 911 has a curb weight of only 3295 lbs (1495 kg). They've also added a brand new set of forged aluminum rims with central locking in dimensions 9Jx19-inch (front) and 12Jx19-inch (back). These wheels are wrapped around in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup rubber that measure 245/35 ZR 19 in the front and 325/30 ZR 19 in the back. To stop this monster, the German tuner fitted the 911 with ceramic brakes that have 380 mm discs in the front and 350 mm discs for the rear wheels. The cabin is dominated by the carbon fiber bucket seats and the headliner integrated roll cage with cross brace (IRC). The RUF Rt 12 can be yours if you are willing to pay 279,000 Euros + the value added tax. Source: RUF via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Geneva 2011 – Kelleners BMW 5 Series M Sports Package Posted: 06 Mar 2011 03:00 AM PST At the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show, Kelleners Sports revealed its tuning kits for the BMW 5-Series with the M sports package. The German tuner offers a new aerodynamic kit, performance upgrades, suspension tuning along with an updated interior look. Let's start with the power. For the BMW 520d model, they've upped the power from 180 hp (183 PS / 135 kW) and 280 lb.-ft (380 Nm) of torque to 215 hp (218 PS / 160 kW) and 332 lb.-ft (450 Nm) of torque. For the 535i model, the engine's output has been increased from the standard 300 hp (306 PS / 225 kW) and 295 lb.-ft (400 Nm) of torque to 360 hp (367 PS / 270 kW) and 354 lb.-ft (480 Nm) of torque. As far as the suspension is concerned, Kelleners Sports installed new sport springs that lower the 5-Series by 30 mm. The exterior look of the car has been updated by installing a new stainless steel mesh grille, a front spoiler lip, side moldings, a new spoiler and apron out in the back. The latter has an integrated diffuser that holds the oval stainless steel pipes of the sport exhaust system. The BMW 5-Series now sits on 9×20-inch wheels in the front and 10×20-inch wheel for the rear axle, wrapped around in 255/35R20 front tires and 285/30R20 rear rubber. They also offer a bundle of rim designs in a wide array of colors. For example, the Berlin alloy wheels can be purchased in a simple matte black, a polished matte black or a polished platinum sliver. The Hamburg wheels are available in matte black, polished platinum silver or polished silver graphite. Inside the cabin, the 5-Series can be fitted with a midnight black leather upholstery that has white stitching, velour black floor mats with the logos of the tuning company, along with polished aluminum pedals and footrest. Posted: 06 Mar 2011 02:00 AM PST The German tuner Hamann brought this week to Geneva their latest project. Dubbed Guardian, it is based on the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and comes with a wide-body aerodynamic kit that includes a new front apron, updated bonnet, aggressive side skirts, a rear apron and a new diffuser in the back. The side wings widen the SUV by 120 mm at the front axle and 160 mm at the rear one. It also sports those imposing 120 mm centrally-mounted twin tailpipes part of the new sport exhaust system, that were integrated into the rear diffuser. The standard V8 twin-turbo 4.8-liter of the Cayenne packs 493 hp (500 PS / 368 kW) and with the tweaks made by Hamann, it now produces 544 hp (550 PS / 405 kW) and 568 lb.-ft (770 Nm) of torque. The car needs only 4.6 seconds to reach 60 mph, before hitting a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h). The new suspension module installed lowers the Cayenne by 35 mm and to round up the tuning program, they've installed new massive 23-inch rims and in the cabin, they've used leather, carbon trims and a sport steering wheel. Geneva 2011 – Irmscher 7 SELECTRA Posted: 05 Mar 2011 12:00 PM PST Earlier this week we've mentioned that the German tuner Irmscher will bring to Geneva an electric-powered concept based on their 7 Turbo Roadster model. This classic Lotus 7 type car has a 144V DC motor that is capable of producing 235 hp (238 PS / 175 kW) and a whopping 590 lb.-ft (800 Nm) of torque. Battery power comes from lithium-ion phosphate cells (aka LiFePo). This liquid-cooled battery can be charged/discharged for thousands of times and little power is loss at low temperatures. The coolest thing about this battery is that it can be charged wirelessly. Depending upon the charger's capacity, the car's battery can be charged to 80% in less than 60 minutes and 100% in 3-8 hours. When the battery is full, the driving range of the Irmscher 7 SELECTRA is 124 miles (200 km). The automaker plans on rolling out a production version with a base price that will be less than 90,000 Euros. The conventional-powered model that has 210 hp costs from 55,900 Euros. Posted: 05 Mar 2011 10:00 AM PST Confirmed in December 2009, the Audi Q5 Hybrid has made its official debut at the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show. The model was designed in order to be one of the most fuel-efficient crossovers on the market and it can be distinguished from the standard version by the chrome exhaust pipes, the exclusive 19-inch alloy rims and the "hybrid" badges. The Q5 Hybrid will be powered by a 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine that cranks out 208 hp (211 PS / 155 kW) and an electric motor that offers 44 hp (45 PS / 33 kW). The crossover's combined power figure is 241 hp (245 PS / 180 kW) and 354 lb.-ft (480 Nm) of torque, allowing the car to do the 0-60 mph sprint in a respectable 7.1 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 138 mph (222 km/h). The Audi Q5 Hybrid will be able to do 33.6 mpg (6.9 liters / 100 km) and CO2 emissions of only 159 g/km. For obtaining these great figures, the engineers over at Audi had to put the crossover on a diet. As a consequence, the car has been fitted with an aluminum hood and tailgate plus a lighter Quattro all-wheel drive system. The curb weight of the model has been lowered to 4409 lbs (2000 kg), making it the lightest hybrid-powered SUV in the world. Source: Audi via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Geneva 2011 – Saab 9-5 SportCombi Posted: 05 Mar 2011 08:00 AM PST The Saab 9-5 SportCombi has been introduced this week in Geneva and evokes the automaker's fighter jet-making heritage. The design of the car, created under the company's new design director Jason Castriota, features a wraparound rear window, a hockey-stick belt line and those ice-block taillights that we've seen in the 9-4X model. The engine choices will be just about the same as in the sedan model, which means that buyers will be able to choose from a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 217 hp (220 PS / 162 kW), a turbocharged V6 2.8-liter that outputs 296 hp (300 PS / 221 kW) and a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter diesel engine that cranks out 158 hp (160 PS / 118 kW). Optional features for the Saab 9-5 SportCombi include an adaptive chassis control, the XWD all-wheel drive system and a head-up display. The model will go on sale this fall. Posted: 05 Mar 2011 07:00 AM PST Another Lancia model, another rebadged Chrysler. First, it was the Lancia Thema (aka Chrysler 300) and now we're going to talk about the Flavia (aka Chrysler 200). The Italian automaker said that the car will go into production within the next six months as both a saloon and a convertible model. The Flavia comes with a very conservative Bright Black finish with polished metal features on the front bumper, side mirrors, door handles and on the boot lid. Inside it has a 2+2 configuration and dark leather is the predominant material. The convertible version will feature a White Zenith exterior color offset by the Black Lava roof and complemented by the Ivory White leather interior with beige Alcantara and black accents. According to the press release, both models measure about 4.5 meters long and have seats that "recline into chaise-lounges". The Flavia rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels, way better in comparison to its American sibling that has steel wheels. Other differences from the Chrysler 200 include the fog lamps; Lancia's signature grille and the LED rear lightning. The car will come with electronic traction control, electronic stability control, six airbags, multi-function steering wheel and Bluetooth. Lancia said that the model will hit the European showrooms later on this year and at first it will be offered with Fiat's MultiJet 1.6-liter engine that produces 105 hp (106 PS / 77 kW) which will be linked to an automatic gearbox. Later on, more engines and a manual transmission will be introduced. Just like I've said about the Thema, I think that Flavia will not be a very popular model among customers. Geneva 2011 – Renault Wind Gordini Posted: 05 Mar 2011 06:00 AM PST Renault brought to Geneva this week the new Wind Gordini which they describe as being a "true driver's car". It comes with a traditional Malta blue exterior with white racing stripes. It features a gloss black roof, Glacier white accents and it rolls on 17-inch diamond alloy wheels. Inside the cabin it has two-tone leather seats, a sport steering wheel, blue and white door straps and a Gordini gear knob. There aren't any changes in the engine compartment as it carries the same power units as the standard version, which means that customers will be able to choose from either a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 99 hp (100 PS / 74 kW) and 112 lb.-ft (152 Nm) of torque, or a more powerful naturally-aspirated 1.6-liter gas engine that cranks out 131 hp (133 PS / 98 kW) and 118 lb.-ft (160 Nm) of torque. Posted: 05 Mar 2011 05:00 AM PST Here on rpmGO we've talked about the BMW ActiveE a couple of weeks ago, but taking into consideration that the German automaker brought it to this year's Geneva Motor Show, no harm in talking about it a little bit more. The EV is based on the 1-Series coupe and is essentially an evolution of the Mini E. Unlike the conventional-powered 1-Series, the ActiveE version has modified fascias, "circuit-inspired graphics", and a power dome hood along with 16-inch lightweight alloy wheels wrapped around in low-rolling resistance tires. Inside the ActiveE, BMW used Dakota leather upholstery, an Alpine White trim and they have installed a new eDrive display that shows battery-related info. An application for iPhone users has been developed that allows them to remotely precondition the battery, check the charging status and lock/unlock the doors. The car has a 32 kWh lithium-ion battery that sends power to an electric motor that produces 168 hp (170 PS / 125 kW) and 184 lb.-ft (250 Nm) of torque, enabling the car to do the 0-60 mph sprint in about 9 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 90 mph (145 km/h). With a full charge, the car can be driven for approximately 100 miles (160 km). After the battery has been emptied, it can be charged in 16-20 hours by using a standard household outlet (110V/16A) or in 4-5 hours when using a rapid charger (240V/32A). As we previously mentioned, more than 1,000 units of the ActiveE will be built and they will be available for lease in select cities in the United States, China and Europe.
