Sold Out: Ferrari FF & Lamborghini Aventador Posted: 08 Mar 2011 03:00 AM PST The Ferrari FF and the Lamborghini Aventador just got their official debut at this year's edition of the Geneva Motor Show. Business Week reported that the production version of the Ferrari FF concept has been sold out for its first model year. With a basic price of $363,300, the Italian automaker didn't have any problems selling the 800 units that will be manufactured during the first production run. As a reminder, the FF comes with a V12 6.3-liter engine that cranks out 651 hp (660 PS / 485 kW) and 504 lb.-ft (683 Nm). The power unit is mated to a double-clutch transmission, enabling 3946 lb (1790 kg) car to do the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.7 seconds, onto a top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h). In addition, Lamborghini's new Aventador model has also been sold out for its first model year. They didn't say how many units will be produced, but we do know that the starting price for the supercar is $379,700. Murcielago's replacement has a V12 6.5-liter power plant that develops 690 hp (700 PS / 515 kW) and 509 lb.-ft (690 Nm) of torque. Mated to a 7-speed transmission, the Aventador needs only 2.9 seconds to reach 60 mph, before hitting a top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h). Source: Business Week via WCF Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 08 Mar 2011 02:00 AM PST This month at the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show, the Swiss tuner Sportec brought the successor of the SPR1 R model. Based on the current facelift version of the 997 Porsche 911 Turbo, the Sportec SPR1 FL comes with a new semi-sequential gearbox, new side mirrors, facelift LED taillights and a new bumper. The engine's output remains just about the same, but this isn't bad news as the power plant can churn a whopping 846 hp (858 PS / 631 kW)! Like Sportec said, a Golf GTI at each wheel. The torque figure is up a little bit, from 641 lb.-ft (869 Nm) to 649 lb.-ft (880 Nm). The "FL" designation comes from the new "Smooth Flow" intake manifold that features two injectors per chamber. Another modification over the old model is the new Carbon Ram Air intake system, along with two hybrid turbochargers and a high-performance intercooler. The new 6-speed transmission has a Sportec high-performance clutch with oil cooling, and works with the AWD system with a limited-slip differential that has a 60/60 percent locking effect. All these goodies allow the Sportec SPR1 FL to reach 60 mph in just 3 seconds, 0-124 mph in 9.7 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h) which takes 18 seconds. Mercedes Viano Avantgarde Edition 125 Announced Posted: 08 Mar 2011 01:00 AM PST Mercedes celebrated its 125th anniversary and with this occasion they've decided to launch a special edition for their Viano model. Dubbed Avantgarde Edition 125, this Viano is the flagship of the lineup and comes with bespoke 19-inch rims, a chrome trim on the front bumper, chromed mirror housings, chrome trim on the tailgate and chromed side skirts. Customers can choose either brilliant silver or obsidian black for the exterior paint finish. Inside the cabin, the Viano can host up to six passengers: two in the front and four at the back. "Twin DINAMICA" microfiber surface or "Lugano" leather can be used for covering the individual seats. The rear ones are mounted on rails and can be moved in 25 mm steps and feature adjustable armrests and height-adjustable head restraints. In addition, the car sports brushed stainless steel sports pedals and a white scale illumination for the instruments. The Mercedes Viano Avantgarde Edition 125 is available with a choice of two V6 engines, a 3.5-liter gasoline plant and a 3.0-liter diesel power unit. The first one churns out 258 hp, allowing the car to do the 0-60 mph sprint in 10.4, onto a top speed of 135 mph (217 km/h). The diesel engine produces 224 hp and 325 lb.-ft (440 Nm) of torque, helping the car reach 60 mph in 9.1 seconds, before hitting a maximum speed of 125 mph (201 km/h). These are quite impressive figures if we take into consideration that the car has a curb weight of about 2 tones. Both versions of the Viano are RWD and have automatic gearboxes, while the suspension has been tuned by the engineers for a sportier feel. The model fitted with the aforementioned 3.0-liter diesel engine benefits from the BlueEfficiency technology, allowing the Viano to average a fuel consumption of only 8.5 – 8.6 liters / 100 km and have CO2 emissions of 224 – 226 g/km. This special edition is going to be available in two different lengths, compact and long. Sales will commence this spring. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Geneva 2011 – VW Multivan BlueMotion and Edition 25 Posted: 08 Mar 2011 12:00 AM PST Between the Ferraris, Lamborghinis and the rest of the supercars exhibited in Geneva, we find VW's Multivan BlueMotion and Edition 25 models. The first one features significant improvements in fuel economy. With a 2.0-liter TDI engine that cranks out 113 hp (114 PS / 84 kW) and 184 lb.-ft (250 Nm) of torque, the car's BlueMotion technology helps it deliver a 6.4 liters / 100 km fuel consumption rating and CO2 emissions of only 169 g/km. This system includes regenerative braking that supplies energy to charge the battery, along with a start & stop system. The Multivan Edition 25 was created in order to celebrate the model's 25th anniversary. It comes with a matte black roof and sits on black-painted 18-inch rims. In addition, it features black door handles, black decal trim at the back and side sills along with matte black paint on the underside of the front bumper. The model is available with a choice of three colors for the exterior finish: Metallic Silver, Salsa Red and Candy White. The Edition 25 also features an upgraded anti-roll bar and a sport chassis. The German automaker is also working on a 177 hp (180 PS / 132 kW) Edition 25 version with 4Motion and a DSG transmission to celebrate25 years since the introduction of the all-wheel drive system for the Transporter van, which is the utility version of the model. Up On eBay – 2012 Fiat 500 Prima Edizione Posted: 07 Mar 2011 11:00 PM PST Back in July 2010 we've mentioned that Fiat will roll out 500 units "Prima Edizione" special edition models of the Fiat 500 to celebrate the automaker's return in the United States. A few months later in September, the automaker said that all of the units were all sold out. One of these buyers was interested more in earning some money rather than driving the car as he listed his car on eBay as soon as he got it. The model we are talking about is finished in white (the other two colors available for the Prima Edizione edition were grey and red) and comes with an optional sunroof. Located in Florida, this Fiat 500 has a whopping "buy it now" price on eBay of $27,975! To understand how expensive the car is, it costs twice as much as the entry-level, non-special edition 500 model! The owner didn't upload any pictures of the car, but he said that it was No35 out of the 500 units built for the US market. Would you pay almost $30,000 for a Fiat 500? Count me out! European-spec Nissan 370Z Updated Posted: 07 Mar 2011 09:00 PM PST The Japanese automaker Nissan announced recently its updates for the European-spec 370Z model. For the new model year, the car is available with a number of transmission, suspension and equipment improvements for the entire 370Z Coupe lineup, while at the same time adding a new trim level, dubbed "GT Edition". Performance-wise, the 2011 Nissan 370Z Coupe has been fitted with retuned dampers that promise to bring a better balance between high-speed handling and ride comfort. The automaker said that thanks to the higher average speeds regularly enjoyed in this continent, the NTCE (Nissan Technical Centre Europe) technicians engineered these changes. The car's optional 7-speed automatic gearbox has been fitted with a snow mode that when engaged, starts the car in second gear and controls engine revs in order to prevent wheel spin on snow or ice. As standard, the car is going to be fitted with a tire pressure monitoring system. One of the new optional features available is a rear view-parking camera as part of the Nissan Premium Connect satellite navigation package. The aforementioned GT Edition will be offered in three different body colors: Black Rose, pearl white and metallic black. The first one is exclusive to this new trim level and features contrasting stripes running along the car's flanks. The car sits on 19-inch RAYS forged rims that are finished in anthracite color, replacing the standard 18-inch wheels. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Mazda 6 Suffers From Arachnophobia Posted: 07 Mar 2011 08:00 PM PST … And the award for the strangest recall in all automotive history goes to… the Mazda 6! The Japanese automaker Mazda has issued a recall for 52,000 units of their 6 model because of potential obstruction in the car's evaporative systems. To be more exact, on some 2009 and 2010 models, the evaporative canister vent line is the perfect home for a species of spider. If by any chance the web clogs the line, excessive negative pressure may build up in the fuel tank which will most likely cause a crack in the tank itself. The automaker promised to inspect the vent line and clean it as necessary. More than that, Mazda's dealers will install a vent in the line in order to prevent the spiders from crawling back down into the line so that they could nest. This recall will debut on March 25. Jaguar E-Type Revival, Entering Limited Production Posted: 07 Mar 2011 07:00 PM PST No, this isn't made by Jaguar unfortunately. Visualtech, a Swedish design firm, confirmed that they will start making a very limited run of production cars based on their Growler E model, their revival of the legendary Jaguar E-Type. The first units will be ready for delivery in the summer of next year. The company's current objective is to produce 3 to 4 units. If there is an overwhelming demand, Visualtech said that they will team up with Steyr or Valment for building a very short series run of cars. The car will be powered by a V8 5.0-liter supercharged engine borrowed from the Jaguar XKR. They'll tweak the engine a little bit in order to produce close to 600 hp, good enough for a 0-60 mph sprint in less than 4 seconds. It will feature a composite body glued to a carbon fiber structure and the front & rear tube frames will hold the running gear. How much will the car cost? Almost $700,000 if there will be a series run and double if they are only going to make a few. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
