Range Rover Evoque Bicycle Announced Posted: 12 Mar 2011 06:00 AM PST Yet another bicycle from an automaker was revealed this week, this time it is the Range Rover Evoque Bicycle. It was created by Land Rover's design team in collaboration with their boss, Gerry McGovern. The bicycle is made on a Karbona carbon fiber monocoque frame and Range Rover said that it is both light and aerodynamic. The automaker said that Karbona, who was in charge of the bicycle's frame, used techniques derived from the world of Formula 1. This bicycle comes with a seat tube section integrated in the frame in order to lower the weight, color-matched steering components and a 20-gear Shimano Ultegra transmission system, just like the M Carbon Racer. It has a carbon fiber steering fork, steering bearings that were integrated into the head of the frame, and braking systems and drive train that have a black chrome finish. Carbon fiber was also used for the wheels. Land Rover did not say what price tag this bicycle is going to have, or when it will be available. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Brabus Mercedes Viano iBusiness 3D Revealed Posted: 12 Mar 2011 05:30 AM PST If you've though that the Mercedes Viano Avantgarde Edition was special, Brabus has something even more impressive to offer. Dubbed Brabus Mercedes Viano iBusiness 3D, this is most likely the most technology-packed van ever made. Entertainment-wise, it has just about everything that you would ever want, starting with a Playstation 3, iPad and iPhone integration, a 40-inch Sony Bravia LED TV with 3D support, a DVBT TV signal receiver, Wi-Fi and a Dolby Surround sound system. The car can be fitted with a rather dull V6 ECO PowerXtra diesel engine that produces only 318 hp (234 kW) and 302 lb.-ft (410 Nm) of torque. Luckily, a more powerful engine is available in the form of a V8 that cranks out 426 hp (313 kW) and 458 lb.-ft (621 Nm) of torque, which should be just about enough to carry that huge LED TV. Although I think that this van is impressive, I don't seem to imagine someone buying it. Probably Brabus wanted to show us that aside from rolling out high performance packages for various models, they are also very good at offering a high level of luxury and comfort, but they should have picked another car. Posted: 12 Mar 2011 05:00 AM PST Back in February 2010, Hamann released the upgrade program for the BMW X6M and this month at the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show, they've updated this tuning package with a carbon fiber kit. Essentially, the car received various carbon fiber aerodynamic parts, without any changes in the engine department. Carbon was used for the front spoiler lip, rear diffuser, rear boot lid wind, roof wing, rear lights surrounds, side mirror casings, roof rails and bonnet. The Hamann BMW X6M Carbon Kit is powered by an engine that can develop 670 hp (493 kW) @ 6,000 rpm and 950 Nm of torque between 1,500 rpm and 5,650 rpm. With this power under the bonnet, the car can sprint to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 300 km/h. To stop it, the engineers over at Hamann have installed MOV'IT high performance brakes that have 6-piston calipers and 420×40 mm discs for the front wheels and 4-piston calipers and 380×32 mm discs for the wheels in the back. AMG Driving Academy Adds SLS AMG GT3 Posted: 12 Mar 2011 04:30 AM PST If you've thought that the AMG Driving Academy was interesting before, well now it got even more exciting with the addition of a Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 race car. This V8-powered coupe is going to be available in the most advanced skill level program, the "Masters", a program that consist of four different stages: Experience, Warm-up, Training and Competition. The first leg takes about three hours and features a driving session with the road version of the beautiful SLS AMG, which is then followed by an introduction and a seated "rehearsal". After that, the lucky participants are able to drive the SLS AMG GT3 on the circuit behind a lead car. At the end, an experienced professional driver gives them a ride in the very same. The aforementioned Experience stage is open to everyone, but in order to be accepted to the following stages, the participants have to complete race track training sessions. The Warm-up and Training are more complex and difficult and are intended to gradually familiarize the entrants with the controls of the SLS AMG GT3 and to teach them how to drive on slick racing tires. The Competition stage is where all the fun is. This stage will open its doors at the end of next year and will consist of individual and team races, in which competitors will drive their own cars or the SLS AMG GT3 (booking prices per event start at $2070). The first delivers of the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 will be done this month, for a base price of $461,500 or $550,500 with the German VAT included. Source: Mercedes Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Golf 6 Gets New Body Kit And Other Accessories Posted: 12 Mar 2011 04:00 AM PST Volkswagen's best selling model, the Golf, has received a new set of accessories. Probably the most important one is the new aerodynamic package that includes updated bumpers, side skirts, along with a more generous roof spoiler. The automaker said that these changes also improve the Golf's aerodynamics. The Golf 6 can now be fitted with two new sets of alloy rims, both measuring 17-inches and can be painted in different hues of silver: the 5-spoke "Onyx" and the 15-spoke "Silex". As far as the cabin is concerned, VW's aftermarket division have come up with a decorative trim set that includes five pieces finished with a carbon look, parts that can be found on the door panels and the instrument panel. VW Accessories also offers new equipment for utility purposes, like a roof-box that is available in three different sizes that uses the DuoLift System, which means that it can be opened from both sides. Another addition is the luggage compartment tub made out of washable plastic that can be divided into different areas according to your needs. Source: VW via Carscoop Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Recalls: 70,115 Kia Optima Sedans Posted: 12 Mar 2011 03:30 AM PST The Korean automaker Kia has issued a recall on 70,115 Optima sedan units that were manufactured between September 29, 2005 and June 13, 2007 due to a problem related to the transmission that might cause the vehicles to roll even while they are in park. Kia said that some of these cars might have a transmission shift cable that was not installed properly and can become detached from the shifter. If this happens, the Optima would stay in the last used gear before the detachment of the cable, even if the driver moves the shift lever to the park position. Luckily, the company said that they haven't received any reports with injuries related to this potential problem. This safety recall will begin next month and affects the 2006-2008MY Optima sedan models. Source: Carscoop Post published on Rpmgo.com |
