Dacia Reaches Production Milestone – 4 Million Cars Posted: 19 Mar 2011 05:30 AM PDT It all started in 1966 when Dacia was founded. 45 years later, the company rolled out its 4,000,000th car at the Mioveni plant in Romania. The car that managed to achieve this important milestone was a Duster Laureate (4WD model) which had a brown finish and under the bonnet it featured a 1.5-liter diesel engine with 110 hp. The Romanian automaker built its 1,000,000th car in 1985 and the second million in 1998. In 1999 Renault took over the factory from the Romanian state and in 2007 the third million milestone was achieved. They only needed three and a half years to make another million cars, thanks to the increasing demand, along with the $1.7 billion investment Renault made since they took over the brand. At the moment, the low-cost Duster sport utility vehicle is the best selling model of the brand, as half of the 65 cars made every hour in the Mioveni plant is a Duster model. The car was launched last year and since then Dacia has received more than 100,000 international orders and they managed to sell 4,900 units in Romania. For celebrating this important milestone, the Romanian automaker released a "how it's made" video of its 4,000,000th car. Enjoy. Click here to view the embedded video. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
2012 Mercedes ML Looses More Of Its Camo Posted: 19 Mar 2011 05:00 AM PDT It was only two days ago when we uploaded a spy video of the forthcoming 2012 Mercedes ML-Class and now we have a new batch of spy shots, courtesy of Carscoop.com. The car you see in these photos wears less camo and we can observe that the differences between the outgoing model and the new one are not that striking as you might have expected from a brand new generation. It is more like a facelift, which isn't that bad at all as I've always liked the ML. Behind that camo we can see a slightly boxier shape with more sculpted lines, longer tail lamps, along with a more angular grille up front. Inside the cabin, Mercedes redesigned the ML's dashboard and now features a more prominent center console that has a new switchgear and a generous LCD screen for the infotainment system. The 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML-Class shares its chassis with the Dodge Durango and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. At first, the SUV will come with the automaker's newest gasoline power units, including here a V6 3.5-liter and a more powerful V8 4.6-liter engine, along with their regular batch of V6 diesels. In the works are also a plug-in hybrid, along with the AMG model that will feature the company's new twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8, which will replace the current naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter. 2011 American Le Mans Series Safety Car – Porsche Panamera Turbo Posted: 19 Mar 2011 04:30 AM PDT The organizers of this year's American Le Mans series have bad tastes as they have chosen the awful-looking Porsche Panamera Turbo as the safety car of the competition. In addition, they also got two Porsche Cayenne ALMS Emergency Response Vehicles, which is another hideous car to say at least. The Panamera Turbo will be a standard version as there isn't going to be any engine tuning, which means that it will have the regular turbocharged V8 4.8-liter engine that produces 500 PS (368 kW). More info about the cars will be revealed pretty soon. Stay tuned. Source: Porsche Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Spy Shots: Chevrolet Camaro Synergy Special Edition Posted: 19 Mar 2011 04:00 AM PDT Our colleges from WCF have managed to take a couple of spy shots with the forthcoming Chevrolet Camaro Synergy, yet another special edition for this model. This shouldn't come as a surprise as back in February, Chevrolet announced that they will roll out a special edition of the Camaro every six months. The next one to be released is this Synergy edition which will come with its own set of rims, interior trims and a new body kit. Customers will have to choose from one of the following colors: Summit Black, Summit White, Victory Red and Cyber Gray. If you recall, there was another Synergy Special Edition for the Camaro, available between February and May 2010. That model was based on the 1LT and it had a V6 3.6-liter that developed 304 hp. The base price was $26,790 and had a metallic green paint; this was the only "green" thing about it. Anyway, I'm sure that this new addition will sell like cupcakes, up to some point. I believe that if they continue with this trend of rolling out two special editions per year, the car will soon depreciate and they'll lose many customers, because special edition (aka limited edition) is supposed to be somewhat exclusive, but if there are a lot of them, it beats the purpose of rolling out a limited-run edition of a certain model, in this case the Camaro.
