Range Rover Sport Luxury Edition Announced Posted: 21 Mar 2011 03:00 AM PDT The British automaker Land Rover revealed last week that they plan on rolling out another special edition of the Range Rover, dubbed "Luxury Edition". This model is going to be available only for selected markets (UK is not one of them) and will be slotted between the company's HSE and Autobiography models in the range. The SUV will be powered by a V6 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine that will produce 242 hp. It will come as standard with a sun roof, 20-inch alloy rims, heated steering wheel, contrasting stitching for the interior leather, along with a choice of three exterior colors: black, white and bronze. The front grille will also get an exclusive black finish, and the cabin will feature a powerful 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system complete with a subwoofer. Posted: 21 Mar 2011 02:37 AM PDT People are showing their support for the Japan in all sorts of ways around the world. We particularly liked Higa’s idea to invite people to show their support by honking in the street. A simple gesture that not only proved that people know what solidarity is, but a thing that actually helped: for every honk, the Youtube star donated $10 for the Natural Disaster Relief Fund for Japan. Click here to view the embedded video. Also, he promised he will donate another $600 for ever 1,000,000 views that this video gets. We’d like to appreciate this young man for his actions. So, honk for Japan! Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Porsche 918 Spyder Pricing Announced Posted: 21 Mar 2011 02:30 AM PDT Porsche's 918 Spyder hybrid supercar will go on sale this week at a whopping price of 645,000 Euros (plus VAT), and it will have its own limited edition 911 to tide buyers over until deliveries commence in 2013. We first saw this car last year at the Geneva Motor Show and it was very well received, now the German car maker has announced that they will roll out 918 units, all in left-hand drive. The production of this model will start on September 18th, 2013 and deliveries will begin in early November that same year. These sketches of the production car tell us that the model will retain the basic profile of the concept, along with a removable roof. Porsche's R&D chief Wolfgang Durheimer told Autocar at the beginning of this year that the 918 will have a one-piece panel similar to the one used on the sexy Carrera GT. The company also confirmed the 918's specifications and it seems that the supercar will be powered by a V8-based gasoline engine, along with two electric motors (one on each axle), that will offer an additional 215 hp. The lithium-ion batteries will be charged from a regular socket and it will take about three hours (in Germany) for a full charge that will last about 16 miles when running on electric mode. The 918 Spyder will do the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.2 seconds, onto a top speed of over 199 mph. The hybrid supercar will do 78 mpg and emit 70 g/km of CO2. As we mentioned in the first paragraph, there is also going to be a new version (like there weren't enough already) of the current 911 Turbo. Dubbed 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder, the car is going to be available only for those who buy the 918. The coupe version will have a base price of 125,865 pounds; while the cabriolet model will set you back at least 133,553 pounds. This new edition of the 911 will get bright green detailing in order to echo the colors used on the 2010 918 Spyder concept, along with an enhanced leather interior plus a carbon fiber trim. Customers will be able to order the car in the same color as they will choose for the 918 Spyder and it will have the same numbered plate. The German automaker will most likely launch one more technical evolution of the outgoing 911 model (997) before the next-gen model will be unveiled this fall. Rumors say that the last bang for the current 911 is going to be the 4.0-liter version of the GT3 RS. We'll let you know once more info is revealed (or leaked). Ford Comuta, The EV Of The 60s Posted: 21 Mar 2011 02:00 AM PDT If you thought that the Ford Focus EV is one of the company's first electric-powered cars, think again, as the Blue Oval worked out on an EV prototype more than four decades ago. They brought it to the 1967 Geneva Motor Show and it was the automaker's first attempt at an EV, after 1913 when Henry Ford and Thomas Edison tried making a battery-powered car. Getting back to this microcar, Ford named it Comuta and it offered enough space for two adults and two children. Top speed was rated at 40 mph and it had a range of 40 miles (if driven at 25 mph), which is not very bad at all. It seems that this concept was developed by Ford of Britain and it had dual DC electric motors that put out 3.7 kW (5 hp) and were in fact originally designed as aircraft auxiliary units. The power came from four mid-mounted 12V lead-acid batteries. The length of this tiny car was 6 feet and 8 inches, making it half as long as a Mustang. To really understand how small it was, you were able to park three Comutas in one single parking space. The car featured a "sophisticated" heating and cooling system and one of the optional features of the model was the battery-charge meter. The company advertised the Comuta as a city car with a turning radius of 18 feet and "automatic driving" without a transmission. There were only two Ford Comuta models ever built and one of them still exists and it is exhibited at the Science Museum in London. Click here to view the embedded video. Posted: 21 Mar 2011 01:30 AM PDT A popular trend among automakers these days is to introduce bicycles, inspired from their production models. BMW's M division announced the Carbon Racer a couple of weeks ago, and Range Rover did the same thing with their Evoque bicycle. Now, McLaren combined forces with SPC to create this Venge Aero road bike, which has an awful color in my opinion. This race bicycle has a very lightweight carbon-fiber frame that was developed by McLaren Applied Technologies. MAT's engineers optimized the way the carbon was cut & applied, and improved the overall efficiency by up to 15%. They did this by choosing the most suitable plies, managing to shave off 2.09 lbs (950 g) from the frame's weight. The McLaren Venge Aero had its official debut last weekend at the Milan-Remo race where Mark Cavendish managed to finish on the 52nd position, out of more than 150 competitors. The race was won by Matthew Harley Goss, an Australian racer for the HTC-Highroad team that managed to travel the 298 km distance in 6:51:10. Click here to view the embedded video. Recalls: 280,000+ Hyundai Elantras Posted: 21 Mar 2011 01:00 AM PDT The Korean automaker Hyundai has issued two separate recalls for the Elantra model over airbag related issues. The first one affects about 95,783 Elantras 2007-2008MY manufactured between July 14, 2006 and August 29, 2007. For these cars, the airbag control module might receive an unstable electrical signal from the seat track position sensor which might lead to the deployment of the driver's airbag at a higher pressure than intended. To fix this problem, the automaker's dealers will have to reprogram the airbag control module, free of charge. The second recall concerns approximately 188,697 units from the 2007-2009MY made between July 14, 2006, until November 1st, 2008. The company said that the problem with these cars is the weight sensor that deactivates the right front airbag when passengers of certain weights occupy the seat might become contaminated and malfunction, causing airbag deployment in crashes where this shouldn't happen. To fix this issue, Hyundai affirmed that they will install a protective cover over the weight classification system connector in order to prevent contamination. These recalls should start next month and if you own one of the Elantras we've mentioned above, you can call Hyundai's customer assistance center at 1-800-633-5151. Fiat Punto 150 Celebrates Italy’s Unification Posted: 21 Mar 2011 12:30 AM PDT This year Italy is celebrating its 150th anniversary of the country's unification and Fiat thought about rolling out a special edition that would commemorate this event. What they've come up with is the "Punto 150", a special version of the Punto Evo supermini that will hit the dealerships this April. It will be available with a bespoke honeycomb grille, "Azzurro Italia" special metallic paintwork, two-tone lightweight alloy rims, along with a couple of commemorative "Italia 150" badges on the B-pillars. The car will get as standard, fog lights, air conditioning and radio-CD audio with MP3 support. As far as the selection of engines is concerned, customers will have to choose from one of the following three power units: a 1.2-liter gasoline plant that produces 69 hp, a more powerful 1.4-liter gas engine that delivers 77 hp and a 1.3-liter Multijet II diesel that outputs 75 hp. All the engines are Euro 5 compliant and will get as standard the start/stop system. Also available is a 1.4-liter power unit with 70 hp that can run either on gasoline or LPG. In its homeland, the entry-level 1.2-liter model is going to cost $14,000, which is pretty expensive in my opinion as you don't get that much equpiment. Aside from this special edition model, the Italian automaker has decided to put the "Italia 150" logo on all the cars they will make between April and June (including), the cars that will be sold in Italy. They didn't say if the Punto 150 is going to be available to customers living outside of Italy's borders. Source: Fiat via Carscoop Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 21 Mar 2011 12:00 AM PDT The Japanese automaker Nissan has announced last week that they have entered a 2-year partnership with Signature Group, a French-based racing team, to field an open-cockpit LMP2-class sports car prototype in the new Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC). As part of this collaboration, the automaker's Performance and Motorsports division, NISMO, will be responsible for providing the 3.4-liter racing versions of its VK series of V8 power units, which can be found under the bonnet of the Pathfinder, Armada and Titan models. Nissan said that this newly established team, dubbed Signatech Nissan, will take part in the entire 2011 season of the ILMC series. The car will be driven by Soheil Ayari, a 40-year-old open-wheel and sports car veteran, and by Franck Mailleux, a 25-year-old F3 and Le Mans Series racer, along with Lucas Ordonez, a 25-year-old who won the inaugural Nissan and PlayStation GT Academy competition in 2008 in Europe. Koenigsegg Agera R Performance Figures Revealed Posted: 20 Mar 2011 11:30 PM PDT At the beginning of this month we've talked about the very beautiful Koenigsegg Agera R, a 1000+ hp supercar that was revealed during the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show. We've discussed about the looks and the hardware specifications, but we weren't able to reveal how fast the car really is, until now. The Agera R is able to do the 0-100 km/h sprint in only 2.9 seconds, and it needs just 7.5 sec to reach 200 km/h from start. Probably even more interesting than that is the 0-200-0 km/h time, which can be done in 12.7 seconds, thanks primarily to the car's ventilated carbon ceramic brakes. As we've said before, the car packs a powerful V8 5.0-liter engine that delivers a whopping 1,115 hp @ 6,900 rpm, when running on E85 ethanol. With 95 octane gas, the Agera R produces 940 hp and with 98 octane gas, it will offer 1,050 ponies to play with. Top speed of this beauty? Well, more than 261 mph (420 km/h)! The automaker also revealed the list of equipment available for the Agera R, like the hydraulic lifting system (making it eligible for the Top Gear leader board:)), adaptive rear wing, satellite navigation system, silvery key, leather carpets and a G sensor. The optional equipment available for the supercar includes heated seats, rear view camera, front winglets, visible carbon body, winter wheel package, Inconel exhaust system and probably the weirdest one, a ski box roof. Although the official price has not been revealed yet, the new Agera R will cost probably over $1,410,000. Source: Koenigsegg Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe Unleashed Posted: 20 Mar 2011 10:54 PM PDT The German automaker Mercedes has revealed its new generation of the C63 AMG Coupe, ahead of its official debut at the New York Auto Show that will be organized this April. Just like the sedan version, the 2-door model will get the same V8 6.3-liter engine that cranks out 451 hp (457 PS / 336 kW) and 443 lb.-ft (600 Nm) of torque. This power unit is going to be mated to a 7-speed SpeedShift MCT transmission, allowing the coupe to do the 0-60 mph sprint in 4.5 seconds, exactly the same like its sedan sibling. According to Mercedes-Benz, the top speed of the new C63 AMG Coupe is going to be electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h) while the fuel consumption figure, using the combined NEDC, has a rating of 12 liters / 100 km, which isn't that good but normal for such a powerful car. More muscles under the bonnet are available via the AMG Performance Package that increases the engine's output to 480 hp (487 PS / 358 kW) and 443 lb.-ft (600 Nm) of torque. With this extra power, the coupe will do the 0-60 mph sprint in 4.4 seconds. When it will hit the dealerships in Europe this July, the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe will be offered in an exclusive "Edition 1" that is going to have some exclusive equipment. Some of the goodies for this special edition include the AMG sports seats, door panel centers and armrests upholstered in black leather with contrasting porcelain seams on the sports seats, an AMG performance steering wheel that will feature a two-tone wrap using black nappa leather with the lower section in porcelain designo leather. As you might have guessed, there are going to be a lot of "Edition 1" badges. As far as the exterior is concerned, the car will roll on AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy rims that are going to be painted in matt black. Customers can choose a matt finish in designo magno night black or diamond white metallic BRIGHT, instead of the standard metallic paintwork. In Germany, the 2012 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe will have a starting price of 72,590 Euros for the regular model (including VAT), while the "Edition 1" model will have a base price of 77,231 Euros. If you want to get the aforementioned AMG Performance Package, be prepared to pay another 7116 Euros. The car will have its US debut later on this year in September and the price list for this market will most likely be revealed at its public debut that will occur in New York.
