Here are a few great tips to save on your car insurance Posted: 06 Oct 2009 01:58 AM PDT One of the many “joys” of owning a car is the fact that you must pay an insurance, just in case you get into an accident or your car breaks down. In most countries these things are mandatory, meaning that if you don’t pay them, you’ll end up regretting, most of the times financially, either through fines, or not being able to repair your car right away. Thanks to a great post on WiseBread, you can find out four great ways to save up even the tiniest amount of money on your insurance. Seeing as how the time of renewals is coming for most drivers, you should definitely check out those tips. Besides the ones featured in that article, comparing insurance rates, checking your credit rating, combining policies and hunting discounts, I can also add a few of my own. Hit the jump to check them out
If you are a young driver, like myself, sometimes it is better to be on the lookout for family offers or just make the policy in the name of your mother or father, as many companies equal young drivers with dangerous ones. You should also be on the lookout for tickets and try to challenge them in court wherever possible. After being fined for even misdemeanors, like speeding, you might find your insurance fee to go straight up. In case you normally live in high risk areas, such as crowded cities, and temporarily move to other areas, with a lower cost, in case of college students, interns at various companies or even short-term military assignments, you might want to contact your insurance company and inform them. Many brokers will offer you a significant discount if the area you are now residing is less known for traffic accidents. Last but not least, don’t forge to always check the fine print of your insurance contract, you’ll most likely find some clauses which make you go to specific repair shops or pay a special fee for any complaint you register. Overall, car insurance is a necessary evil, but if you pay attention, you might get off paying much less than you would normally have. Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Fiat Punto EVO has been revealed, to sport Euro 5 engines Posted: 06 Oct 2009 01:28 AM PDT Fiat definitely wanted to make an impact when it launched the new Punto EVO, as it revealed it to the automotive press on Italy’s flagship plane carrier, the Cavour. Sporting a wide array of technological improvements, a new style from Fiat’s Centro Stile, the new EVO will bridge the gap between the Bravo and the Panda, and hopes to offer a reliable and cheap alternative to models like the Polo. Another notable bullet point for the new Punto is the fact that all of its engines will meet strict Euro 5 emissions regulations, meaning cheaper taxes and a more relaxed sleep for eco-conscious drivers. On the inside, the old plastics have been replaced with ones of a higher quality, reflecting the more premium-oriented look of the car. The exterior has certainly received a lot of improvements, starting from the more angular front and rear lights to the redesigned spoilers and sharped front bumper. In terms of safety, the EVO will definitely have you covered, as it will have seven airbags as standard, including one for your knees, alongside systems like ABS, EBD, ESP and Hill-Holder. Start-Stop technology has also been fitted to the Punto in order to save up on fuel. The price hasn’t been revealed but expect the new Punto EVO to be available across Europe in the following months. Honda unveils first photos of the CR-Z hybrid sports coupe before Tokyo Posted: 06 Oct 2009 01:14 AM PDT With the Frankfurt Motor Show already finished, the industry is turning its eyes to the East, as the Tokyo one is next up on the calendar. We will be definitely be greeted with a strong show thanks to the many local automakers, but it seems that Honda wants to steal the show, largely with its CR-Z hybrid sports coupe, which will see a pre-production concept. Don’t go thinking that will be super futuristic, like the one revealed in 2007, as the car is set to enter production at the beginning of next year, so no major changes will be made to the Tokyo version. We can still see plenty of influences from the old concept, but the interior does remind me of the Insight hybrid model. Speaking of hybrid, this will be Honda’s first entry in the hybrid sports car market, with the small coupe being a spiritual successor to the famous CR-X from the beginning of the 1990s, and it will reportedly have some good performance figures. Sadly no such details were given by Honda, meaning that we must wait until October 24 when the Tokyo show will start. Source: CarScoop Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Carlsson transforms the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG into the CK63 RS Posted: 06 Oct 2009 12:33 AM PDT That Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG sure is something right? With a massive 6.3-liter V8 engine it can literally push you into your seat with its acceleration and top speed figures. But when a performance model rolls off the assembly line in Frankfurt, you can be sure that the German tuners are anxiously awaiting to get their hands dirty and modify it. Such is the case with Carlsson, which opted to tinker with the E63 AMG. Outfitted with a reprogrammed ECU, a new sports exhaust system and a few other performance figures, the new CK63 RS model is a true rocket. It can now output 584 HP, as opposed to the stock 525, with a torque of 695 Nm (512 lb-ft), as opposed to 630. What does it all mean in seconds? Well the team managed to shave three tenths of a second from the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time, as the CK63 RS manages to reach that speed in just 4.5 seconds, a great time for a limousine. Besides the performance upgrade, the German tuning house has also fitted the new model with a bodykit, consisting of a new front apron, side skirts and a rear apron with a built-in carbon fiber diffuser. These parts are completed by four 20-inch two-tone REVO alloy wheels. For those of you with a craving for a modified interior, the Carlsson team can also put new special leathers or aluminum accents, for an extra price that is. Honda and Nissan bosses admit Hyundai is a large threat Posted: 05 Oct 2009 10:49 AM PDT While almost all of the worldwide automakers are recording big losses and forced to scale back manufacturing costs and make severe downsizes, there are a few ones which keep on growing by leaps and bounds both in sales and in popularity. One such example is Hyundai, which has been in a steady upward trend for quite some time now, as many people have realized that even though the vehicles from the South Korean brand are cheap, they are also becoming more and more reliable and offer great quality. The growth of Hyundai is also a reason for worry among many Japanese car makers, including Honda and Nissan, as the bosses of these two companies admitted that it is becoming harder and harder to compete with the South Korean brand, especially in the US, a territory where Japanese automakers were dominant. “Hyundai is awesome,” said Honda CEO Takanobu Ito to The Associated Press. “They are undoubtedly a threat because their products are cheap, and the quality is improving.” He was completed by Nissan’s senior vice president, Shiro Nakamura which said: “Hyundai is the biggest threat for the Japanese automakers. They have the technology, but they seem to have cheaper labour. We have to offer the equivalents of sushi, tempura and kaiseki to compete against Korean barbecue.” What do you think of Hyundai these days? While it wasn’t very popular a few years ago, with new models in the i Series and continuous improvements in safety and quality, it will be a large player in the worldwide market. Future 2011 BMW 6 Series will be the best looking car, says executive Posted: 05 Oct 2009 10:44 AM PDT Sadly we still don’t have a fortune teller on our pay roll to tell us about future cars and how they will look or feel, but thanks to BMW North America CEO Jim O’Donnell, we hear that the future BMW 6 Series from the Bavarian automaker will be the best looking one we’ve seen in years. He revealed that the new model will say good bye to the old design lines from Bangle, especially in terms of its rear end, and will adopt a more aggressive but also sleeker body style. It seems that we can also expect to see multiple versions, including a convertible outfitted with a hard top, with no chances for a soft top one. In terms of engines, rumors place units ranging from entry-level V6 motors with twin turbos to heavy V8s in the future model. Chances are we might also see a hybrid version, based on the 655. Nothing is for certain though, as the company is keeping things under a tight wrap until the Geneva Motor Show in March next year. Source: AutomobileMag Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:
