Porsche to share platforms between other Volkswagen companies, Panamera to be first electric model Posted: 27 Oct 2009 02:54 AM PDT As an integral effort of getting along with Volkswagen, Porsche has announced that it will share platforms from various models with other companies from inside the group. Michael Macht, the new boss of the company, has also revealed that the first electric vehicle, when the technology will allow it, will be the Panamera.
While we can expect models like the new Cayenne to share a platform with VW or Audi, Macht reveals that the case is still on the board for the iconic 911, meaning that any VW-badged rear-wheel 911 or Boxster variant won’t appear anytime soon. Either way, it should be interesting to see what results will the collaboration between Porsche and the VW group generate. Do you think it will be for the best or should Porsche keep its exclusive nature and not share its “toys” with others? Leave a comment below. Supercharged 405 HP Lexus IS350C to debut at SEMA Posted: 27 Oct 2009 02:29 AM PDT This year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas will be host to many modified models, but a very interesting one which promises both performance and the wind through your hair is Fox Marketing’s supercharged 2010 Lexus IS350C, which has seen a big power increase to 405 HP. Largely responsible for this boost in power is a ProCharger C2 blower which adds another six PSI into the 3.5-liter V6 of the Japanese convertible, as well as a Yonaka intercooler and an F-Sport exhaust system. Other additions will be the braking system, taken straight from Lexus’ tuning division, which boast 14-inch discs, which will be decorate with a set of iForged 20-inch wheels, wrapped in Tokyo T1R tires. Also thanks to a Yonaka SPECII adjustable coilover suspension, this convertible will also stick closer to the ground and maintain its stability. The outside wasn’t forgotten, as Fox added a new front lip, as well as side skirts, a revamped front grille and new badges. Expect more details on the car when the SEMA show will start next week. BMW X5 driver tries to park, mounts two cars then flees the scene Posted: 27 Oct 2009 01:53 AM PDT We’ve all heard about drivers mistaking the brake with the acceleration, but none of the incidents were as funny as this guy, driving an old generation BMW X5, which tried to park his SUV in the Extreme Fitness parking lot in Thornhill, Ontario. Things seem to be going good, without any events, when the X5 gets a boost in acceleration and mounts two cars located in front of the space the driver was trying to occupy. After a bit of clumsy maneuvers, instead of doing the normal thing, he opted to flee the scene. He didn’t notice the security camera, which caught everything on tape. Enjoy the video below. New details and rumors surface about future Ford Mondeo, design render included Posted: 27 Oct 2009 01:47 AM PDT One of the biggest surprises in recent years, at least for the mid-size sedan market, was the new Ford Mondeo, which showcased the new Kinetic design line and attracted through both beauty and the quality of its build. It seems that the American company has already prepared a replacement for the Mondeo, which will act more on the lines of a facelift, but will benefit from an upgraded engine line, including ones from the EcoBoost gasoline ones and Duratorq diesel units, which offer a better economy and improved performance. In terms of design, as you can see from the renders made by the guys at Auto Express, it is even more attractive, trying out lines similar to a coupe than a normal mid-size sedan, and looking gorgeous in the process. Speaking of coupes, it would seem, according to some inside rumors, that both a regular coupe model, which will rival the Audi A5 or BMW 3 Series, but also a Mercedes-Benz CLS-style four-door coupe, which will rival the popular Volkswagen Passat CC, will be made. In terms of engines, as I’ve said before, expect more economical units, with a smaller displacement size, but with upgraded performances. Everything from a 1.4-liter unit which develops 150 HP to a 1.6 one which outputs between 150 and 180 HP or a 2-liter engine that develops around 200 HP. In terms of range-topping version, you shouldn’t expect a RS-badged Mondeo, but a 3.5-liter V6 developing 350 HP should more than make up for it. In terms of diesels, nothing is known for sure, but will no doubt prove to be very efficient and powerful. Overall, it seems that Ford will definitely improve the Mondeo with this new generation and will give other mid-size sedans a serious run for their money, no matter the price segment. What do you think? Don’t be shy and drop a comment. Source: AutoExpress Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

BMW might launch 5 Series GT 520d model, rules out a high performance M version Posted: 27 Oct 2009 01:19 AM PDT It seems that BMW is bent on marketing the brand new 5 Series Gran Turismo model as a more mainstream one, and in this troubled economy, meaning that it will offer smaller engines with better fuel economy, without risking to go on the high end market with performance models. At least this is what the rumors tell, which focus on the launch a 520d version of the 5 Series GT, which will be powered by the extremely popular and efficient 2-liter diesel engine, which develops around 177 HP. It has also been revealed, by BMW’s product manager, Michelle Roberts, that a twin-turbo diesel unit might also reach the 5 Series GT anytime soon. Speculation has also surfaced in regards to a possible M-badged version of the 5 GT, which would see a much bigger engine, with better performance, but also with a higher price tag, a thing which BMW doesn’t want at least until the next few years. As such, the top of the range will still be the 550i, powered by a twin-turbo V8. Would a cheaper and more efficient 5 Series GT model attract your attention or is the controversial design still putting you off? Why don’t you leave a comment with your thoughts. Expression Motorsport reveals Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG Wide Body Posted: 27 Oct 2009 01:07 AM PDT Just got yourself a new Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG? Great! But there is a small problem, a lot of people already have such cars. Bummer, right? Well don’t worry, in case you’ve got a bit of extra cash after buying the powerful SUV from Mercedes, you can hop over to Belgian tuners Expression Motorsport which have just presented their Wide Body version of the ML63 AMG. Don’t expect any engine enhancements, as the team considered the massive AMG-tuned 6.2-liter V8 engine to offer more than enough power. Instead, they opted to differentiate their model from other ML63s by adding a wide body kit. Included in the aforementioned body kit will be a revamped front fascia, which will replace the old front bumper with a new three-section one, complete with LED daytime running lights, but also a new spoiler and a slightly more aggressive hood. Of course one of the first things that pop out are the enlarged wheel arches, which now house 22-inch wheels, and give it a much meaner look. On the rear, a new bumper will include a lightweight diffuser. Sadly though, pricing hasn’t been announced but we will keep you posted on this rather interesting take on the Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG. At the wheel you will see Toyota’s top driver, Hirose Naruse, handling all of the power the Lexus LFA has. In case you’re bored with the track, just close your eyes and listen to that wonderful V10. Enjoy! Source: 0to60mag Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Ultimate Mugen Honda Civic Type-R coming to Europe, only 20 to be made Posted: 27 Oct 2009 12:38 AM PDT If you’re in the market for a brand new pocket rocket and want something truly exclusive that any boy-racer can’t even dream, then perhaps you should know that Honda’s performance division, Mugen, has announced that it will be developing an even more powerful version of its hot hatchback, the Honda Civic Type-R. Dubbed the Ultimate Civic Type-R, the new car will benefit from an increase of power from 198 to 237, and 10% more torque all across the rev range. Other improvements include new pistons, camshafts, intake manifold and, of course, a new stainless steel exhaust system. Add a revamped suspension system with a limited-slip differential and you’ve got yourself one of the most hardcore Type-R Civics. Of course Mugen couldn’t neglect the outside of the car, and besides the new bodykit, they added a massive wing in order to generate downforce and make it look that much cooler. Adding to said “cool” factor will be a set of forged alloy wheels, which will allow air to pass to the new racing brake calipers. In case you’re eagerly awaiting this new model, be warned that only 20 will be made, each with the asking price of £38,599 or €42,348. Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

RM460 mid-engine V8 Genesis Coupe gets rendered ahead of SEMA debut Posted: 27 Oct 2009 12:19 AM PDT At the end of the month and beginning of November, we will be flooded with a plethora of highly customized cars, thanks to the SEMA show which will be held in Las Vegas and host the biggest aftermarket manufacturer summit. One of the most interesting things to be unveiled there will be the RM460 Genesis Coupe, based on the very popular Hyundai model. Of course we’ve been treated last year and will see a few other Genesis Coupes, but this one truly stands out as it will be powered by a massive V8 engine, borrowed from the Genesis sedan, which will be mounted in the middle of the car. In order to achieve the modification, the team at Rhys Millen Racing have thrown out the back seats, so that the 4.6-liter Tau V8 will rest snugly and provide the perfect balance. Of course it has also seen its share of tweaks, as eight individual throttle bodies were fitted, alongside a set of JE pistons and a new engine management system from AEM. All of this means that it will now develop around 500 HP. The car also didn’t manage to escape the engineers, as they fitted a brand new five-speed sequential gearbox, a set of KW coilovers to the stock suspension and a new StopTech braking system. The exterior saw the addition of a set of HRE 560 Series 20-inch wheels, wrapped in Toyo T1R ties, not to mention the new RMR Signature Edition body kit, complete with carbon fiber spoilers and covered in a custom paint job in RM Onyx HD from BASF. Last but not least, the interior has seen its sports seats wrapped in alcantara and carbon fiber, thanks to Sparco, and a new high quality sound system, from Infinity. In case you’re going to SEMA, you should definitely check out this very attractive model. Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Posted: 26 Oct 2009 08:25 PM PDT Last week, when we wrote about Forbes listing us as a must-read auto blog, we also promised you a few more surprises, so here we are: New look for RPMGO. A couple of weeks ago, we realised it’s been almost two years since we last did a major change to the blog, so we decided to start working on a fresh look. Well, actually we didn’t do anything, because the design was made by a friend of ours, Alex, a very talented Romanian designer. We’re really happy with what he came up with and we hope you like it too. Of course, there are still a few glitches that need to be fixed, but we’ll take care of that in the following days. You can also help us, by reporting anything you find that is not working or looking as it’s suppose to. Alex is also working on a new look for our Test Drive section too, which we hope will be ready later this week. And speaking of test drives… …we’re very thrilled about our first long-term test car, a brand new Mercedes-Benz GLK, which Bobby will be driving until next summer. We had the car since August, but we couldn’t announce it earlier, because Bobby is part of a Mercedes campaign here in Romania and we had to wait until the official announcement. After the first two months, we can tell you the car is magnificent, especially on our rough Romanian roads (we also drove it to Germany last month, when we went to the Frankfurt show). Among others, it has a 3.0 liter diesel, 224 hp and off-road package. More soon, when we’ll write our impressions after two months. And last, but definitely not least, we must introduce our new team member, Andrei Dobra (Andrey). Though it’s not a surprise any more (he has been posting since early September), we never got the chance to officially introduce him. And who can talk better about Andrey, than himself
Andrey wrote for RPMGO last year, as part of an experiment we made, and we thought he did a great job, so at the end of this summer we asked him if he’d like to join our team. He said yes and we’re really thrilled to have him onboard! So, what do you think…a lot of great news, right?
