889speedshop already offering tuning program for the Lexus LFA, including performance boost Posted: 22 Oct 2009 01:59 AM PDT Well that was fast, the new Lexus LFA has just been revealed by the Japanese company at the Tokyo Motor Show and already German tuning house 889speedshop is offering a performance and bodykit for the supercar from the land of the rising sun, which will start getting delivered at the end of next year. The fact that it doesn’t even have a model to work on or the chance to actually see the inside of the car hasn’t stopped 889speedshop to reveal a few renders of a bodykit, which will include a revamped carbon fiber hood, skins for the fender, a redesigned fron fascia will also be added for a more aggressive look and improved air flow to the front brakes. On the rear, a new carbon fiber splitter will be fitted and the stock variable spoiler will be replaced with a fixed one. In terms of performance, the tuner are quite confident that they can improve the Lexus LFA supercar by adding a titanium exhaust system and reprogram the ECU in order to squeeze 20 HP more from the big V10 engine. All of these mods will cost around $65,000, which will be added to the retail price of the LFA which is around $380,000. What do you think? Should the tuners have taken more time and actually work on a model before releasing these plans or should they present something as soon as possible for future buyers? Mini shows the difference between its drivers and other people Posted: 22 Oct 2009 01:37 AM PDT I’ve said it once and I’ll keep on claiming it, Mini has one of the best marketing departments in all of the industry. Testimony to this are the countless brilliant ads that they have revealed over the years, each revealing the unconventional nature of the brand. But now the company decided to focus more on its customers, the drivers of Minis, and has dedicated a new ad in order to honor them and to showcase their own unconventional nature, as opposed to other people. Enjoy the video below. Source: Automarket Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Toyota executive says video games make people less interested in real cars Posted: 22 Oct 2009 01:25 AM PDT In a rather shocking and awkward statement, it seems that one Toyota executive is blaming the lack of interest in cars from the younger generation (on which we reported last week), on, believe it or not, video games, like Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport or Need for Speed. It is all part of an article made by reputed Japanese journalist Masahiro Kawaguchi, which compared the current state of the Japanese youth and how they believe cars to be unnecessary. “Guys used to work hard at their job so they could get a stylish, cool car for girl’s to ride in.” He then quoted a Toyota executive which revealed that: “Home game machines are no good. Playing something that realistic makes the need for cars disappear.” This is rather awkward as Toyota is quite involved in the gaming industry, loaning a lot of its models, like the newly released Toyota FT-86 Concept, to high end titles like Gran Turismo 5. It’s hard to believe that people will now take their Xboxes or PlayStation 3 consoles to work, but the executive may have a point. You must consider the fact that public transportation is quite developed in Japan, so the need of driving a car every now and then might be substituted for many people by driving one in a video game. What do you think? Will we sell our vehicles for consoles and games? Don’t be shy and drop a comment below Source: Kotaku Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG gets even more powerful with new Performance Plus package Posted: 22 Oct 2009 01:08 AM PDT One of Mercedes-Benz’s flagship models and its prime weapon against the BMW M3 is the C63 AMG model, based on the C Class. It is one crazy car, with a massive amount of power. But for those who crave even more and don’t really want to go to various tuners, the AMG division has cooked up something very special, in terms of a Performance Plus package, which can be added as an option for both the regular sedan and the estate version, and includes both mechanical and visual upgrades. Let’s start with what everyone’s interested in: the engine. The already powerful 6.2-liter V8 will be getting an extra 30 HP, taking its output to 487 HP at around 6,800 rpm and a peak torque of 600 Nm at 5,000 rpm. This translates in an improved 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of 4.4 seconds. Sadly the speed is still limited to 250 km/h. AMG also implemented other mechanical changes, like a new braking system, to stop that massive engine, and a new discreet wing on the boot lid. On the inside drivers will be able to choose from either two types of leather on the steering wheel, regular or alcantara. In case this new package peaked your interest, it will cost an extra €7,080 for the sedan while for the estate version has a tag of €6,426. Dealer crashes customer’s Koenigsegg CCX, damages a Porsche 911 GT2 Posted: 22 Oct 2009 12:54 AM PDT The Koenigsegg CCX is one of the most exclusive cars out there, with the Scandinavian manufacturer producing around 25 of these cars per year. That’s why you really have to be angry when you left your car at the dealership, then find out that the dealer saw fit to take the supercar for a spin and crashed it into a guardrail. This is what happened in New York, after a clumsy dealer took the 800 HP supercar and lost control, smashing it into a guardrail and managing to damage a new Porsche 911 GT2 in the process. You can be sure that he’ll have a lot of explaining to do to his bosses and to his customer. Only one pic was available from the guys at WreckedExoctics, but it’s plenty to shed a tear for that fantastic supercar. Source: WreckedExoctics Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Fiat might withdraw Dodge brand from Europe Posted: 22 Oct 2009 12:42 AM PDT Fiat, Chrysler’s newest partner in “crime”, has revealed that it will unveil most of its future plans at the middle of November. But until then, a rumor has begun to spread like wildfire regarding the Dodge brand and its European presence. It seems that due to the small sales figures and that many changes will soon be implemented in the lineup, thanks to the work Alfa Romeo has been doing with the American brand, Fiat will withdraw Dodge from Europe. This will help Fiat implement a new marketing push to introduce the Chrysler car brand as a premium one in the new continent. This will also allow, as I’ve said, for Dodge to spend its efforts collaborating with Alfa Romeo on new platforms for more attractive models. Dodge has been present in Europe since 2006, but its bulky and rectangular models haven’t really been up the alley of many buyers in this continent. But in case you did fancy some of their cars, now’s the best time to buy one before the brand disappears. Are you sorry about this possible fate for Dodge? Leave a comment with your feelings. Noble to launch new 650 HP supercar as a cheap alternative to the Ferrari Enzo Posted: 22 Oct 2009 12:29 AM PDT The founder of Noble, the high end carmaker based in the UK, has revealed that he is indeed working a new supercar which will rival the Ferrari Enzo in terms of power, with the top spec outputting 650 HP, but won’t cost more than £100,000 ($160,000 or €110,000). The new car will be built in South Africa, like the Noble M12 model, and will see its multiple engines, each developing between 400 and 650 HP, coupled with a Graziano six-speed manual gearbox. The car will see multiple version, depending on the power they produce, in order to attract more customers, and will weigh around 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs). Of course exclusivity will be right at home, with Noble revealing that only 100 models will be made every year, as to not alienate its loyal customer base. Hopefully Noble will release a concept design soon enough and we’ll see if it can go up against the Ferrari Enzo. Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Porsche Panamera gets new bodykit from Mansory Posted: 22 Oct 2009 12:16 AM PDT In case you want your new Porsche Panamera to look a bit more exclusive, luxury tuning house Mansory has got the perfect thing for you, in the form of a new aerodynamic bodykit which they have just presented. Don’t go looking for any engine upgrades though, as this is kit is focused purely on looks. And I must say it does one hell of a job, as a new front spoiler, revamped grille and a hood with two air intakes makes the Panamera’s face a bit more attractive. Wider air vents, side skirts and a new rear spoiler with a carbon fiber deflector have also been added, as well as a new exhaust tip, running down the center of the rear bumper. Finishing things off is a set of new 21-inch wheels, sitting on a lowered suspension system, bringing the Porsche super sedan closer to the ground by about 35 mm. All in all, the Panamera has certainly received a bump in the sport department, but it may not be enough for Porsche purists to accept it as a true car from the German company. Nissan and Sumitomo to implement recycling program for used lithium ion electric car batteries Posted: 21 Oct 2009 11:59 PM PDT In yet another push to strengthen its image as one of the leading electric vehicle manufacturers, Japanese company Nissan, together with Sumitomo, a local corporation which occupies with trading financial solutions, has announced that it will implement a new recycling program for lithium ion electric car batteries in order to prolong their life span. This program will be called the 4R, with each “R” letter standing for one possible new use for the batteries once their life span isn’t up to par with the needs of a car. The new strategy will Re-use, Re-sell, Re-fabricate and, last but not least, recycle. Let me explain each of them for you. First of all, lithium ion batteries which won’t be able to properly power an electric vehicle for a reasonable amount of time will be able to be re-used as storage units for power generated by things like solar panels. In terms of re-selling, the two companies will take the battery from the car of the user and give it to other companies which can then use it as an energy storage device or even a back up generator for short amounts of time. The re-fabricate alternative will see Nissan and Sumitomo refurbishing it and using it for other things. And, in case nothing can be done for the battery in question, its components, like the lithium, will be recycled and used for other things, even new batteries. Overall, Nissan’s initiative is commendable and perhaps more companies will start their own program to take care of depleted electric car batteries. Lotus Exige Scura / Stealth presented at Tokyo Motor Show, photo gallery available Posted: 21 Oct 2009 06:06 AM PDT In order to get itself more noticed, British brand Lotus has just revealed the newest special edition of its Exige model, the Exige Scura, or Exige Stealth, as it will be known in Asia and at the Tokyo Motor Show. The track-oriented version will be more darker (Scura means “dark” in Italian) and feature a unique finish with matte black paint and high gloss “Phantom Black” triple stripes, giving it a whole mini-Reventon feel. Similar to the Lambo, only 35 models will be made and sold across multiple territories, from Europe to Asia.
In terms of engine, the Exige Scura will have a supercharged 1.8-liter engine with VVTL-i, outputting around 260 HP and 236 Nm (174 lb-ft) of torque at around 6,000 rpm. Connected to a six-speed manual gearbox, the model will use systems like Lotus’ Launch Control and Traction Control, created for the Exige GT3 race car, and sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds, topping out at 245 km/h (152 mph). But don’t think that dark will also be the fuel consumption, as the Exige Scura, or Stealth, will have a combined cycle of just 8.5 liters/100 km (27 mpg), with a CO2 output of 199 g/km. On the outside, besides the interesting paint job, there will be new carbon fiber components like a front air splitter, bigger oil cooler inlet vanes, side air scoops and an enlarged rear spoiler. The interior is as spartan as always, with carbon fiber inserts on the center console. In case this model made you curious, orders will be taken starting today from countries and territories like Europe, South Korea, Australia, South Africa, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Indonesia and Malaysia. Prices will be UK (£45,000 MSRP), Germany (€60,000), Euro Zone (€50,420), Italy (€61,885) and France (€61,200). Other countries will have other types of prices.
