Future Bentley Continental GT to receive hybrid and bioethanol versions Posted: 09 Oct 2009 05:27 AM PDT It seems that Bentley will be going greener and greener in the future, and I’m not talking about new paint options either, as the next generation of the Continental GT model will also see a hybrid version, in which the presumably big gasoline engine will be helped by a smaller electric one. This is part of the UK automaker’s strategy to become more friendly with the environment, after presenting a bioethanol version of the current Continental GT Supersports. The future series, which is expected to hit around 2011, will see plenty of other technologies, aimed at lowering its fuel average and its CO2 emissions. It is expected that the hybrid model will take the current 396 g/km value and lower it by as much as 40% to a more sensible 225 g CO2/km. We will also bioethanol version of the future models, in order to further differentiate the Continental GT from its rivals. Ulrich Eichhorn, one of Bentley’s executives revealed that the current Supersports and the future Continental hybrid will aim at delivering both a high performance and a more balanced take on the environment, in order to satisfy all of its customers. Will you be looking forward to the new Bentley Continental? Don’t be shy to drop a comment below. Source: Automarket Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Stunning new Honda ad reveals how people race against time Posted: 08 Oct 2009 11:54 PM PDT Honda’s new marketing strategy, “Dream the impossible” is certainly a very interesting one. It really showcases the efforts that the Japanese company is putting towards viable alternatives to conventional fuels, with the pack leader being the hydrogen fuel cell-powered FCX Clarity. This new video reveals just how normal people, ranging from movie writers from the recent Star Trek film, to skateboarders like Tony Hawk, and the chief executive for the FCX Clarity project race against a ticking clock and how this pushes them to achieve the impossible. It’s seven minutes long, but trust me, it’s worth every second. Enjoy and leave a comment with your thoughts in regards to this matter.

Dramatic accident at FIA GT race at Paul Ricard Posted: 08 Oct 2009 11:48 PM PDT Racing events are definitely entertaining as you don’t get the chance to see so many professional drivers go head to head on a closed track and see which car and racer is the best. Sadly though, sometimes the conditions aren’t that great, but the show must go on, meaning that drivers need to be very careful so that they won’t crash. Sadly, the unfortunate happened last weekend during the FIA GT race at Paul Ricard, as the track was quite wet, causing an Aston Martin to lose control and spin out on the track. This led to a massive accident, in which multiple cars including Ferraris and Lamborghinis were involved. The first video reveals the live accident, while the second one shows a replay of the events, including one from the cockpit of the Aston Martin driver.

Renault Fluence officially launched in Romania, hitting the rest of Europe in 2010 Posted: 08 Oct 2009 07:33 AM PDT As you may have noticed, today’s updates were a bit late, as I just came back from Renault’s official launch of its new compact sedan, the Fluence in my country of Romania. The new model will replace the very popular old generation Megane Sedan, and aims at taking its segment to a whole new level in terms of style and quality, with its slogan being “Travel upgraded” or for my country, “Travel in business class.” The launch, which was organized at a hotel in Bucharest, was preceded by a very interesting shadow theater show in which the four main attributes of the car: design, space, technology and dynamics, were highlighted in an unusual way. But time for some number crunching: the Renault Fluence will be available in three flavors, a 1.6-liter 16 valve gasoline engine, which will output 110 HP, and register a mixed fuel average of 6.5 liters/100 km. The other two engine will be diesels, both measuring 1.5 liters, but one outputting 85 HP and the other 105 horses, they will register a mixed fuel average of 4.5 liter/100 km. Prices will start from €12,900, for the 1.6-liter gasoline engine with the base trim level, and end at €16,950, for the 105 HP 1.5-liter DCi engine with the top Privilege trim line. Besides the high level of quality that Renault promises, the Fluence will also have the biggest passenger space in its class as well as the biggest boot space. Either way, with the state of the recession and people not having enough money for expensive cars, this reasonably priced Fluence is definitely attractive for a lot of people. The quality level, from what I’ve seen on the display model is very high, and will definitely surprise a lot of people. Stay tuned for a drive test and a review in the following months, as soon as we can get our hands on the compact sedan from Renault. Until then, you can hit the jump for photos from the launch of the Renault Fluence and leave a comment with your opinion below.

Here are sketches of Subaru’s version of the Toyota FT-86 concept Posted: 08 Oct 2009 06:21 AM PDT We were treated yesterday to the official reveal of the Toyota FT-86 concept, a small, lightweight, rear-wheel drive car which will follow in the footsteps of iconic models like the Sprinter Trueno AE86, the Supra or the Celica. But what might have slipped the minds of a few people is the fact that the new platform for the model was a result of a partnership between Toyota and Subaru, and that the latter company might also launch their own version of the lightweight coupe model. I am saying “might” as a future model based on this platform will go against a long running reputation for Subaru, that of creating all-wheel drive cars which rely on safety but also on performance. Also, it might rival the already established Impreza model, which is quite popular these days. But as a testimony that Subaru is at least tinkering with the idea are these new sketches, brought forth by the guys at Autocar, which reveal some early drafts of a Subaru-branded FT-86. Although it was believed that the model would be showcased alongside Toyota’s version at the Tokyo Motor Show, it seems that the presumption might be false, as Subaru didn’t reveal anything in the past few weeks. Would you also like a Subaru-branded FT-86 or should Toyota handle the lightweight RWD coupe market and Subaru will stick with the AWD segment? Leave us a comment below. Infinity reveals the M35 Hybrid, set to launch in the US in 2011 Posted: 08 Oct 2009 05:41 AM PDT Seeing as how the US market has developed a “healthy appetite” for hybrids these days and how its arch rival, Toyota, is benefiting with the Prius and the Lexus hybrid models, Japanese company Nissan has just revealed the first hybrid model which it will launch under its luxury Infinity brand. The Infinity M35 Hybrid will go on sale in 2011, preceded by the normal, gasoline-powered M model which will be released in the US in the middle of 2010. The new car will still be rear-wheel drive, but will have its own hybrid drivetrain, fully developed by Nissan. The electric motor will run in tandem, thanks to a twin-clutch arrangement, with the normal 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 gasoline engine. Running modes include the electric engine helping the normal one during acceleration, but also being able to charge the battery with power from accelerating and braking. A big improvement flaunted by Nissan is the new “laminated” lithium-ion battery pack, which will occupy the same amount of room as a normal pack, but will offer almost twice the amount of power, thanks to the aforementioned lamination, which will keep the batteries cooler and regulate the temperature.
This new model will no doubt take the fight to Lexus’ GS450h, and it seems that the battle will be quite fierce. What say you? Would you choose this new M35 hybrid or is the Lexus the more “safe” choice? Don’t be shy to drop a comment. Source: CarScoop Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Posted: 08 Oct 2009 05:17 AM PDT By now almost any fan has heard of Mercedes-Benz’s newest supercar, the SLS AMG. The company aimed for a retro look and based the design on the iconic Gullwing model, making the doors of the new car open vertically, just like the wings of a seagull. Of course this fact didn’t escape the marketing department at Mercedes-Benz, which arranged for a very special exhibition of the new model at the prestigious Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart. Don’t go thinking that they just pushed the car into the museum at night, as the company ordered a crane to lift the car, with its doors open of course, onto the roof of the museum, where it will sit for 10 days, after which it will “take off.” The operation was pretty impressive, as you can convince yourselves by watching the video below the article. Don’t be shy and share your thoughts on this “maiden flight” of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG supercar.
