Testosterone makes men buy fast cars, study says Posted: 16 Oct 2009 02:12 AM PDT In yet another interesting study, it seems that men are driven by their testosterone levels to buy fast sport cars. The report was made by the Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business in Montreal, Canada, which took 39 men and made them drive two cars on two different roads, charting their levels of testosterone. The first road was a completely open one, with minimum traffic, while the other was a crowded one, and the first car was a convertible Porsche 911, while the second one was a 16-year-old Toyota Camry. The researchers found that when driving the convertible Porsche in the crowded area, where women were more likely to see them in the sports car, the men experienced a rush in testosterone they also experienced the rush while driving the Porsche in the less crowded road. Needless to say, driving the old Camry didn’t give anyone any rushes in the level of the hormone.
But don’t go thinking that if you drive a sports car, your libido (or mojo) will increase, as the car will just relay your social status. Source: CBC Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

2012 Opel Allegra officially confirmed by Opel, to be based on Trixx concept Posted: 16 Oct 2009 01:16 AM PDT After revealing a few days ago the rumors about Opel working on a little brother for the Corsa compact hatchback, the Germany company has come out with a statement in which it confirms its development of the future Allegra entry-level compact city car. Set to be launched in 2012, under the current Agila and Corsa models, the Allegra will be based on the older Trixx concept, presented in 2004 and pictured above. This was confirmed by Opel’s marketing director, which revealed that the model will be a result of a joint-venture between the German company and another manufacturer, which wasn’t revealed. No further pieces of information were given, and we’re left to speculate on what types of engines will the Allegra use or if a hybrid or an electrical version will be made, using the know how from the future Opel Ampera. Are you excited about yet another compact city car to make driving in a crowded urban environment that much more “exciting”? Don’t be shy to drop a comment. Canadian truckers are angry at a law which prevents smoking in truck cab Posted: 16 Oct 2009 12:48 AM PDT While I’m not a smoker, I know a lot of people which have this habit, which often cite the fact that it helps them unwind, especially while driving. But according to a law in the Canadian region of Ontario, you can’t smoke in enclosed or work spaces. All fine and dandy, but it seems that the Police in the region are considering the truck cabins as work placed for their drivers and have begun giving out fines to those found smoking while driving. Starting with a trucker being fined with 305 Canadian dollars, it was a no-brainer that authorities would get all of the truckers in country angry.
On the other side of the barricade, Neil MacKenzie, a program manager for a health unit’s tobacco free program revealed that such fines, given to truck or taxi drivers are justified and that they will get used to it in no time.
What do you think? Are trucks or taxis the work place of these drivers? Even those privately owned? Should these people smoke if it helps them relax and be more careful on the road? Share your thoughts in the comment section below. Source: AutosCanada Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

BMW might build 0 Series model based on the Mini to rival Audi A1 and Mercedes A Class Posted: 16 Oct 2009 12:28 AM PDT Not content with the good stance of its entry-level 1 Series model on the premium hatchback market, it seems that BMW will indeed be taking the platform of the Mini model and adapting it for its future 0 Series, according to a report by Car Magazine. This entry, codenamed UKL1, which comes from Untere Kompaktklasse, meaning lower compact class, will be set to go head to head with other premium compact models, such as Audi’s A1 and Mercedes-Benz’s A Class models. It will also be borrowing another thing from Mini, which is body styles, as a three-door, five-door and coupe bodies are all set to be adorned by the future 0 Series. It is presumed that it will be released in 2013, and will benefit from completely new three and four-cylinder engines. Whether or not this speculation is true, this is certainly an interesting path the Bavarian carmaker is taking. All we can do is wait and see if this new 0 Series will appear on the road. Lamborghini wants to develop a material stronger than carbon fiber Posted: 16 Oct 2009 12:16 AM PDT Nowadays, carbon fiber is one of the best materials out there, providing a great basis for many high end supercars which want the strongest body frame, but also the lightest one, so as to not hamper their performance. But Lamborghini is already looking to the future, as it announced that the Lamborghini Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory has been created in order for specialists from the Washington University and the Boeing airplane company to work together and create a new material which will be superior to carbon fiber. The goal of the Italian super car manufacturer is to pioneer research in the aerospace and aeronautical fields and implement the new materials which will result into cars and other things we use in our daily lives. While certainly not something you would expect from an automaker which is famous for its flamboyance, we should certainly keep out fingers crossed for the research team there and hope that the future will be filled with lighter and more safer cars. B&B launches new tuning kits for the Audi A5/S5 Cabriolet Posted: 16 Oct 2009 12:03 AM PDT After developing some interesting performance kits for the Audi Q7 facelift earlier this week, the German tuning house B&B has just revealed its tuning packages for the Cabriolet version of the Audi A5 and S5. All of the engines available for the models have been upgraded to produce more power. First off, the top of the range 3-liter TFSI engine can now reach a dizzying 415 HP with 520 Nm, largely due to the new sport exhaust system, but also to an optimized airflow and re-balanced electronics in the engine. The new top speed for this model will be 285 km/h (177 mph). The 3-liter TDI engine hasn’t been forgotten, as it will now reach 325 HP with a torque of 640 Nm. The progress to this performance is in three stages: the first will see the electronics changed and the boost pressure increased, letting 280 HP and 585 Nm for €1,198, the second will see another optimization of the electronics costing just €100 more, and the third will outfit special unit-injector elements and a suction pipe to the cooling system for the engine, costing a heftier €3,950, but will reach the aforementioned 325 Hp and 640 Nm. A special four-staged tuning program was made for the 2-liter TFSI engine, which will steadily increase the output to 250 HP and 400 Nm, for €998, followed by 260 HP and 295 HP for the next two stages, and culminating with the last one, which squeezes 310 HP and 465 Nm, through outfitting the engine with a special turbocharger and a sport exhaust system. Last but not least, the entry-level 2-liter TDI which develops 170 HP/ 350 Nm received two stages of tuning, one increasing its output to 200 HP/ 400 Nm and the other to 220 HP / 420 Nm, with the price starting at €1,198 Besides all of these performance upgrades, B&B also offers special adjustable suspension, and the B10 and B12 wheel sets, with 20 inch rims, in order to look better with the revamped bodykit. Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell will race against each other … in their cars Posted: 15 Oct 2009 06:08 AM PDT A dispute which has taken place many times in the 100 meter race event at various athletic competitions like the World Championships or the Olympics, Usain Bolt (the current fastest man on earth) versus Asafa Powell (the former fastest man on earth) will be settled on the tarmac it seems, as the two runners have decided to race in their personal cars, a Nissan GT-R for Bolt and a Black Series Mercedes-Benz CLK C63 AMG for Powell. Don’t forget the fact that Bolt has already flipped his BMW M3, meaning that his driving skills might not be up to par with what is required for the powerful GT-R and that Powell isn’t known for being a very good driver. This all means that we’re in for a very spectacular race. It will take place this weekend in their native Jamaica, and be sure that we will let you know which athlete is fastest … in his car.
