Ford sold over half a million Fiesta models in its first year Posted: 02 Nov 2009 04:38 AM PST As proof of the huge popularity the new Ford Fiesta model has enjoyed in the markets it was launched, the US company announced that it has sold over half a million units in the first year since it was launched in the German market. Since then, it has swept Europe by storm, managing to sell over 400,000 units by September 2009, and then was released in countries like South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and, the newest holy grail for the auto industry, China. Considering the strong demand which manifested itself in October, it’s safe to say that the small Fiesta blew everybody’s expectations and went past the half million mark. But the company isn’t satisfied yet, and plans to expand the market for the Fiesta to new territories, with the most important one being North America, where it will begin selling in summer of 2010. Potential customers will be able to admire the Fiesta’s attractive design as early as December’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Source: 4WheelsNews Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Volkswagen releases eco-friendly Scirocco Cup race series, powered by Bio-CNG Posted: 02 Nov 2009 01:37 AM PST Most people will definitely find a lot of attributes for racing, but eco-friendly is definitely not one of them. But that hasn’t stopped Volkswagen from announcing that it will replace the popular Polo Cup series with a new one-make championship centered around the a special edition of the Scirocco coupe. Fine, but the Scirocco is quite a powerful car and not one to be known for its “green” side, but what do you say about the fact that it will be running on compressed natural gas (CNG), and will produce 220 HP with 23 lb-ft or torque from its 2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine.
This Bio-CNG fuel is produced from things like grass or corn or even biological waste. Other technical details include a six-speed DSG gearbox, which can be operated through paddles behind the steering wheel, and a four-wheel drive system. Overall, if you prefer an eco-friendly attitude but still enjoy a good race, then this new championship is definitely for you. Source: WorldCarFans Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Posted: 02 Nov 2009 01:03 AM PST Famous North American tuning house Hennessey has just announced that it will be preparing multiple versions of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro LS9, all in their HPE line. The first model and the one already available for the debut at SEMA this week will be the HPE700, which will produce 725 HP with a torque of 741 lb-ft. This version of the Camaro will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, and do the quarter-mile in 11.3 at a speed of 126 mph. This feat is achieved by a combination of a Brembo braking system with 15-inch rotors and a set of 20-inch alloy wheels . But what’s more interesting is that two twin-turbo versions will be launched soon after it, with one developing between 800 and 850 HP and one, as we said in the title, capable of outputting 1,000 HP. No performance figures were given for the future models, but you can just imagine how fast they will be, if the power can be properly put down on the road. Video shows leopards really like car rides, prefer Audi TT Posted: 02 Nov 2009 12:32 AM PST Yes, the title is quite serious, as a new video appeared on YouTube in which a guy is shown driving around in a beautiful Audi TT with a leopard in his passenger seat, riding around like dogs, with its head out the window. This thing is so far fetched nobody could make it up. While the video quality is quite shoddy, it is truly worth the time to look and be amazed. Judging by the language in which the guys in the car speak they’re Russian and by the frank disinterest of the leopard, it seems that this isn’t his first car ride. Hit the jump to take a look for yourselves, and then leave a comment with your opinion.

Wolf Racing releases 360 HP Ford Focus RS360 Posted: 02 Nov 2009 12:06 AM PST Just in case you believed that the stock Ford Focus RS‘ 300 HP is too little and the recent increase from tuning company Loder1899 to 345 HP is still underpowered, then the team at Wolf Racing has just the thing for you, upgrading the hot hatchback’s power output to a whopping 360 HP. That’s right, thanks to some ECU upgrading and a revamped turbocharger, the engine’s power, 360 HP and 559 Nm (412 lb-ft) of torque, will be going straight to the front wheels, all for just €1,299 ($1,920). Just in case you believe that all that new power should be kept in check, Wolf is also offering a limited-slip differential for €2,500. Other upgrades are also featured, like a coilover suspension, for €1,299, and a lowering kit, costing €219. In terms of style, you can opt for a set of 20-inch alloy wheels, costing €399 a piece, and various racing stripes or decals in various colors for €98. Be prepared to see this model live at the Essen Motor Show in Germany, which will be taking place in November. Source: CarScoop Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Porsche Norway dealer forced to decrease Boxster and Cayman power for tax reductions Posted: 01 Nov 2009 11:54 PM PST For all those power enthusiasts which squeal with joy every time 1 HP gets added to the final output of a car, you’d better not read the following story. It seems that the Norwegian Porsche dealer Autozentrum Sport AS, has decided to decrease the power output of the Boxster and Cayman models in order to make them more affordable. Before you cry “Blasphemy!” and ready the pitchforks and torches, you’d better take into account Norway’s strict car import rules, which increases taxes depending on the power and CO2 output of the vehicle. After seeing its rating decreased from 255 to 211, the Boxster is now cheaper by 88,000 Norwegian crown (that’s $15,621 or €10,524). For the Cayman, its power went down from 265 to 211, and is now cheaper by a whopping 106,000 crowns (or $18,819 / €12,677). So there is reason behind Autozentrum’s madness, but what’s rather peculiar is that Porsche is still claiming that the decrease in power hasn’t affected the acceleration and performance figures for the Boxster or Cayman. So does this mean that Porsche is just throwing on the extra HP so that its drivers can brag to friends? You be the judge. Source: WorldCarFans Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Specter Werkes to reveal new and improved 800 HP Chevrolet Corvette C6 GTR at SEMA Posted: 01 Nov 2009 11:40 PM PST You might know the team at Specter Werkes after they presented their first edition of the Chevrolet Corvette C6 GTR in the summer of last year, on which we reported. Now, the team is back and after a collaboration with Lingenfelter, are set to present the new version of the Corvette C6 GTR tuning package at this year’s SEMA show. And this is certainly something you won’t want to miss if you’re going to the SEMA conference in Las Vegas this week, as the new C6 GTR will develop a massive 800 HP squeezed from the LS7 V8 twin-turbo engine. Among other changes will be the StopTech STR braking system and the Corsa exhaust system, as well as the BASF Pearl Blue exterior, which is complimented by a set of HRE CF40 carbon fiber wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 Zero Pressure tires. This new package is available for all of the models in the Chevrolet Corvette C6 range, including the Z06 and ZR1 performance editions. Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Ford outfits 1934 Hot Rod with present day 400 HP EcoBoost V6 engine Posted: 01 Nov 2009 11:18 PM PST Every car fan has heard about the classic American hot rods, big beefy cars from simpler times with huge engines developing massive amounts of power and sucking the fuel out of its gas tank. But for this year’s SEMA show which is taking place this week, Ford has decided the switch the old saying that there is no replacement for displacement, and fitted, with the help of Detroit Street Rods, a modern day EcoBoost V6 engine, from its new line of smaller, more ecological but still powerful units, onto a 1934 hot rod. The model in question is a 1934 3-window coupe, which will boast the first rear-wheel drive application of an EcoBoost engine, and features an all-steel body replica. In order to fit in the new body of the hot rod, the two Honeywell turbochargers needed to be switched, but it still produces the same great output which matches even current day V8 engines, but with a smaller displacement size, developing 400 HP with around 400 lb-ft of torque. For those of you interested in this new initiative, Ford will be holding a special “Driving Green” panel at this year’s SEMA show. Source: Autoblog Post published on Rpmgo.com Related posts:

Fiat 500 to debut in the US with high performance Abarth edition Posted: 01 Nov 2009 11:00 PM PST When we heard that Fiat will be using its new partner Chrysler’s dealer network to market the 500 city car model, we believed, like everybody else, that it will start off with the base model and offer different variations like a convertible or the upcoming wagon model. But according to a recent report, it seems that Fiat will debut straight with the high performance Abarth edition, betting big on taking as many customers from its main rival, Mini. It seems that the Mexico plant, which we revealed that it will start delivering 2011 model year Fiat 500 units, will focus solely on the sports edition of the small 500. The Abarth edition, in case you forgot, is powered by a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder DOHC turbocharged engine, which develops 133 HP, reaching a top speed of 206 km/h (127 mph) with a fuel economy of 25-33 mph (9.4-7 liters/100 km). In addition to the upgraded engine, it also features plenty of sports accessories, from the rear spoiler, twin exhaust pipes or 16-inch wheels to a 5-speed manual transmission or sports seats. If this turns out to be true, then Mini of America definitely needs to work on some new ads, as the Abarth edition of the Fiat 500 is a very good car. Hopefully US fans of the tiny Italian city car will also see other models, like the even sportier 500 Abart Essesse or better yet, special Ferrari editions. TopCar releases Porsche Panamera Stingray Posted: 01 Nov 2009 10:42 PM PST If there is one market where the Porsche Panamera will definitely be popular, it’s Russia. That’s why one of the most popular tuning firms in the country, TopCar, has decided to offer its own take on the new super sedan from the German sports carmaker, entitled Porsche Panamera Stingray. As much as the rendering for the bodykit reveals, I don’t really see any resemblance to the old Stingray edition of the Chevrolet Corvette, so the name is just a coincidence. TopCar did collaborate with local company Cardi, which helped design the aerodynamic kit. This first tuning effort will fit new carbon fiber body parts onto the Panamera, including new panels, bumpers, air vents, side skirts and a rear wing, not to mention a set of new alloy wheels. In terms of future intent, the tuning company revealed that it will replace all of the Panamera’s body parts and that it will partner with 9ff, a reputed Porsche tuning company, for engine upgrades, which is also working quite hard and have even released a few videos of its Panamera tuning project.
